Honestly the lighting alone in GTS, beats Forza 7 for me. The lighting is on another level!! Better then anything I've ever seen, and I've been gaming since 86' and a professional photographer. Crazy!
Yeah Forza 7 looks bad. I am sorry but playing Forza 7 on PC I don't understand why they have all these textures and assets right but they just do not have a realistic looking lighting model. In my opinion this lighting is what makes a game stand out from looking real or like a game. Forza7 I think is just too oversaturated

Even without HDR, running through a base PS4 and a standard 1080p display. GT Sport has great lightning effects. When you watch comparison videos with other racing games, the thing that pops out is how warm the colour tones are, sunlight looks amazing, clouds/sky and car models aswell. While the others look like it's brightness is turned up all the way and have overall washed out colour tones. I really liked the demo, it impressed me since I went in with low expectations. They have come a long way since that footage of E3 2015.

Again, I'm not the biggest racing fan, but those colors look breathtaking. The LOD is also truly impressive on those cars, especially on the Lamborghini. Wheeew. Hope you guys can enjoy this, if it turns out to be a good game.
To be honest neither of the franchises are showing their best these iterations. GT Sport is really just another GT prologue for full price, and Forza has poisoned an otherwise great and complete game with loot boxes and cosmetics.
armoredp Forza 7 isn't complete, there is no such thing as a complete game when micro transactions are involved. You are going to have to cut content and that's what they did.
The PS4 pro may have have had lackluster 3rd party implementation when it come to HDR but the 1st party support is phenomenal, which proves what the platform is capable of with effort and dedication to it from the focused developers !
This is where the XBoxOneX will help PS4pro. Third Party Devs will use similar patches. CD Project Red changed their policy to upgrade The Witcher3 for the PS4 for Pro users, while they worked on XBoxOneX upscaling.
Just started playing the demo. Truly impressed. The simplified single player mode, the excellent presentation, the speed at which everything moves, and even the online mode. I am not usually a fan of online multiplayer but I love the seamless, structured integration of it in this game. The specific racing times, and the fact you just hop in and go, and the emphasis on good driving, really makes it an enjoyable experience. Nicely done PD.
One thing that gets me is this game always looks terrible in videos. I played the demo earlier this week on my Pro and I was shocked how good it actually looked. Sadly though, the game is built primarily for multiplayer, and tragically lacking in meaningful single player content, and thus I'll be giving it a miss. Shame as it's a good looking game, runs beautifully, and is also pretty nice to play.
That is what I originally thought before playing it. You can still play the arcade mode setting up your own races. The multiplayer focus is nice; you should try it out.
I was concerned too because of the focus on mp instead of sp. But honestly the mp is very well done (sport mode) it felt more rewarding then a career mode. The only question is how long the mp is going to stay active. This will depend on the longevity of the game.
I'm good,I already played the beta for 3 days straight now,demo is amazingly fun with motion sensor steering. I'm really digging the Sport mode ever since the closed beta which I'm lucky enough to be chosen to test it out even finding a few glitches and report it right back to PD. These last few hours of this beta I'm going to make the best out of it.
Just bought this on my PS4 Pro and after a 15 year hiatus from PS consoles to Xbox and Forza, I can safely say I’m glad to be back! Less racetracks and vehicle models than Forza, but the detail and gameplay easily outshines Forza! Enjoyment factor just as good as my classic PS1 and the OG Gran Turismo titles! Oh and HDR is actually incredible! I play on an LG OLED and it’s unbelievable!
Lovely frame-rate, great car models and handling variety, a nice 1800p presentation on UHD screens with stunning lighting/HDR, supersampled for 1080p users, and comprehensive online cup racing. A different Gran Turismo entry compared to the numbered editions, but an excellent side-track into competitive racing.
The content is lacking and the graphics are good only on specific moments, the resolution isnt impresive ethier but still better than 1080p, and it cant handle fluid 60fps, over all just a meh.
I think every developer should take a cue from Polyphony. This game has one of the most impressive HDR implementations I’ve seen and replays look drop dead gorgeous.
GT Sport is PS4's King of racing games that's for sure. I'm literally just getting it for the rally portion of the game so I can go toe to toe in multiplayer with the PS community. The rally mode of the demo was excellent, don't know about you guys but I had a crazy fun time!
As usual, GT raises the bar of photorealism. Just awesomely realistic looking at times!. But, I'm sure the Xbox fanboys will tout the resolution advantage as a definitive win. Pfftt I say. Better art design over better raw numbers any day. Sort of like how I'd rather drive a car that's more nimble and fun to drive, but might not have the fastest 0-60 number. Than one that has objectively better numbers, but lacks that more subjective agility and balance...

Gran turismo as allways been about the cars. The way they look, and more importantly the way they feel to drive. I tried the demo and its so awesome. This is not a game for arcade racers, in gt you have to learn how cars handle, how cars work and the cars and tracks are replicated in a perfect way to make you feel the best way possible like you are really driving. Its a true simulator like no other can match..

So now pit stop is the one thing everyone is talking about? I know it's stupid that there are no pit stop animations in forza... but that doesn't make it a worse game. There are so many things that I dislike about forza. But pit stops is just a stupid excuse for an argument. Just beeing curious: In what way are GTs onboard cameras better than FMs?
+Stefan S The reason why people are nitpicking on pit stops is because they keep on saying how realistic Forza Motorsport 7 is well without a proper pit stop and pit crew that doesn't exactly scream realism. As for the onboard camera I think the quality of the inside of each car and attention to detail is better in Gran Turismo Sport which really isn't saying much when Forza Motorsport 7 has almost 550 more cars to cram into their game.

Jason Collins I had massive drops in framerate when playing in 1440p and the phone got really hot. Had to scale back to 1080p. I'm using a 100 Mbps internet, so I don't think it's a connection issue.

Hi John, it seems you're a big Gran Turismo fan like myself. I find it's the only racing franchise that seems to get the level of progression just spot on. Starting with not much money and buying a banger and then slowly progressing through the games cars and after many hours being able to afford a supercar. Do you know if this iteration maintains this balance? And if not, are there any other racing games that do?

I had to wait a while to download the video on my naff internet connection, but to see this on a 4K + HDR display is really something quite amazing. This is the future people! Finally a game worth buying for the Pro! The cars and the lighting are the real step forward. I would have liked more detailed scenery in parts, but overall it is very impressive.
Absolutely beautiful. 480p aside the UI flow and major improvements to the overall experience make me excited again for the GT series. The thought that they're staying away from the Lootbox/Microtransaction fiasco is also very promising. Having an online only career mode really takes the level of competition to a much higher class as most casual crash and bashers won't bother. A console Racer for the Racing Purists, hope this turns out and does well.

Not purchased a gt game since gran turismo 3A spec and I 100% completed that even all the 200+ lap races, I must admit I was not that interested in gt sport but the demo of this on PS4 blew me away and I will certainly be buying this, the graphics are amazing and the hdr is the best I have seen

Settings to overcome the LG brightness problem with HDR content? That's great and yes I wish more games had it. I had to fiddle for an eternity to get a decent brightness in games like Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn via the tv settings. Went through at least 6 setups and tried and tinkered...probably more than I actually played the damn games at that time. -.- The final solution was activating dynamic contrast. Picture is now bright enough, yet still not as bright as without HDR. The overall look is awesome though so will not go back to playing without it. And yes I know, while it is usally a no-go to activate any kind of picture enhancement, the current LGs do have a pretty excellent latency to begin with and enabling just this one option has not shown any kind of noticeably input latency. Yet I'd still prefer the implementation shown here. I hope more games will adapt this, and maybe some older may get a patch? Pretty please!
We need more visual options. Imagine this: native output for 2560*1080 monitors, and using checkerboard rendering to create an anamorphic 2560*2160 frame, which is then downscaled to 2560*1080, resulting in a sort of "fake" 2x super sampling anti aliasing. The pixel count would be slightly lower, but on native res displays it would look supremely sharp and artifact free.
The car modelling are a labour of love from the artists. I haven't played a racing game since GT4 which I still have. I used to love the replay angles and filters watching a clean lap or race. There is one major gripe though putting me off and that's the offline restrictions. Custom paint editor and photo modes would be a great distraction if my internet was down. I want to play the game on my terms not the devs, same mistake that punished Microsoft.

I am only getting up to 480p on the youtube app on my phone in these HDR videos. It was the same with Forza 7 video yesterday still not getting HD on that video as well.

I just watched this on my NOTE 8 (HDR ) and S7 edge side by side. 1440p/60fps on S7 and 1080p/60FPS HDR on Note 8. I now completely understand the hype for HDR. Holy shit the difference is night and day the N8 looked miles better even on a lower res. It looked so much more realistic. Both were on basic display mode, video enhancer turned off. The reason the note 8 had to be 1080p is because TH-cam recently permanently removed the 1440P HDR for mobile phones. Apparently phones at the moment can't handle, my note 8 started to struggle and the video slowed down even with 1080p HDR. But honestly that's just TH-cam being fuckinv shite. On Netflix HDR 1080p causes zero issues (not sure if you can go higher on Netflix, my account only allows for 1080p)

The difference between your HDR videos and SDR is noticeable but when I compare your videos to the demos and games running live something is off. I know there's an issue with the workflow not easily supporting HDR, but the darks and brights seem far apart but squashed in some way compared to the actual games. It almost seems as if a lot of effort is put into distancing the darks and whites without ensuring that the space between is mapped out in a way that is similar to what actually appears in the game. Is this an issue of going from HDR10 to HLG?
Maybe your opinion, but I'm a car enthusiast and Forza have more cars and countless of modifications you can do to your car. Both look great and both are fun to play.
I played limited demo on standard PS4 I'm love pCARS and I'm running at my GTX1070 laptop or GTX980Ti desktop, but GT Sport was really playable and nice looking graphics Lighting, colors, motion blurs, scapes and many other things very satisfied to me some miner points like environments are not good, but I can say it's really feels good while playing this game
GT always was wheel compatable. PD works closely with thrustmaster and logitech for development. Its the console compatabilty to mind since most wheels only support one console. My Thrustmaster T300 can run on both ps3 and ps4 though.
Most racing fans have screens right in front of their wheel setups, so a lack of true 4K actually hurts. The Pro really should have been released this year. There was no rush to release it last year.

Been playing the demo since monday and it is absolutely fantastic, cannot wait for the full game next tuesday!

The content is lacking and the graphics are good only on specific moments, the resolution isnt impresive ethier but still better than 1080p, and it cant handle fluid 60fps, over all just a meh.

I think every developer should take a cue from Polyphony. This game has one of the most impressive HDR implementations I’ve seen and replays look drop dead gorgeous.
GT Sport is PS4's King of racing games that's for sure. I'm literally just getting it for the rally portion of the game so I can go toe to toe in multiplayer with the PS community. The rally mode of the demo was excellent, don't know about you guys but I had a crazy fun time!

As usual, GT raises the bar of photorealism. Just awesomely realistic looking at times!. But, I'm sure the Xbox fanboys will tout the resolution advantage as a definitive win. Pfftt I say. Better art design over better raw numbers any day.

Shadow_Warrior first time i watched such a race game video i thought this would be a place of enjoyment without console wars xD completly wrong, i found myself in a heavy firefight, but because i didnt comment i was invisible.
Gran turismo as allways been about the cars. The way they look, and more importantly the way they feel to drive. I tried the demo and its so awesome. This is not a game for arcade racers, in gt you have to learn how cars handle, how cars work and the cars and tracks are replicated in a perfect way to make you feel the best way possible like you are really driving. Its a true simulator like no other can match..

I know it's stupid that there are no pit stop animations in forza... but that doesn't make it a worse game. There are so many things that I dislike about forza. But pit stops is just a stupid excuse for an argument.

+Stefan S The reason why people are nitpicking on pit stops is because they keep on saying how realistic Forza Motorsport 7 is well without a proper pit stop and pit crew that doesn't exactly scream realism. As for the onboard camera I think the quality of the inside of each car and attention to detail is better in Gran Turismo Sport which really isn't saying much when Forza Motorsport 7 has almost 550 more cars to cram into their game.

This highlights the fact that HDR is more important than resolution alone. But only if you have the right TV set that can properly show its benefits.
When they show the PS3 titles, it just underlines how hilarious it is when people go on about GT Sport looking like "teh PS3 Grafix".
I had a lot of fun with this demo. I don't have a HDR TV, unfortunately, but man, this game is one slick package. Runs like a dream.
The game is gorgeous in 4k hdr on ps4 pro. The more I played it the more I liked it.
I haven't been able to get over how great the game looks in HDR. It's really impressive. I've only played it in 1080P. I wont be getting the Pro. But this makes me more excited for what the One X

Jason Collins I had massive drops in framerate when playing in 1440p and the phone got really hot. Had to scale back to 1080p. I'm using a 100 Mbps internet, so I don't think it's a connection issue.

Hi John, it seems you're a big Gran Turismo fan like myself. I find it's the only racing franchise that seems to get the level of progression just spot on. Starting with not much money and buying a banger and then slowly progressing through the games cars and after many hours being able to afford a supercar. Do you know if this iteration maintains this balance? And if not, are there any other racing games that do?

I had to wait a while to download the video on my naff internet connection, but to see this on a 4K + HDR display is really something quite amazing. This is the future people! Finally a game worth buying for the Pro! The cars and the lighting are the real step forward. I would have liked more detailed scenery in parts, but overall it is very impressive.

Absolutely beautiful. 480p aside the UI flow and major improvements to the overall experience make me excited again for the GT series.
The thought that they're staying away from the Lootbox/Microtransaction fiasco is also very promising.
Having an online only career mode really takes the level of competition to a much higher class as most casual crash and bashers won't bother.

Not purchased a gt game since gran turismo 3A spec and I 100% completed that even all the 200+ lap races, I must admit I was not that interested in gt sport but the demo of this on PS4 blew me away and I will certainly be buying this, the graphics are amazing and the hdr is the best I have seen

Settings to overcome the LG brightness problem with HDR content? That's great and yes I wish more games had it. I had to fiddle for an eternity to get a decent brightness in games like Uncharted 4 and Horizon Zero Dawn via the tv settings. Went through at least 6 setups and tried and tinkered...probably more than I actually played the damn games at that time. -.-
The final solution was activating dynamic contrast. Picture is now bright enough, yet still not as bright as without HDR. The overall look is awesome though so will not go back to playing without it. And yes I know, while it is usally a no-go to activate any kind of picture enhancement, the current LGs do have a pretty excellent latency to begin with and enabling just this one option has not shown any kind of noticeably input latency.
Yet I'd still prefer the implementation shown here. I hope more games will adapt this, and maybe some older may get a patch? Pretty please!

Graphics are great and the driving is solid.... but I enjoy a good campaign mode so that's why I choose Forza. Will still be picking this up.
We need more visual options. Imagine this: native output for 2560*1080 monitors, and using checkerboard rendering to create an anamorphic 2560*2160 frame, which is then downscaled to 2560*1080, resulting in a sort of "fake" 2x super sampling anti aliasing. The pixel count would be slightly lower, but on native res displays it would look supremely sharp and artifact free.

The car modelling are a labour of love from the artists. I haven't played a racing game since GT4 which I still have. I used to love the replay angles and filters watching a clean lap or race. There is one major gripe though putting me off and that's the offline restrictions. Custom paint editor and photo modes would be a great distraction if my internet was down. I want to play the game on my terms not the devs, same mistake that punished Microsoft.

Ninguna lo había echo bien hasta ahora, dando como resultado que mucha gente viese el HDR muy oscuro, con colores erróneos o con clipping en ires altos, esto no pasa con GT Sport, y es sencillamente una delicia visual, espero que las demás desarrolladores tomen ejemplo y aprendan a dar el uso correcto del HDR

I just watched this on my NOTE 8 (HDR ) and S7 edge side by side. 1440p/60fps on S7 and 1080p/60FPS HDR on Note 8. I now completely understand the hype for HDR. Holy shit the difference is night and day the N8 looked miles better even on a lower res. It looked so much more realistic. Both were on basic display mode, video enhancer turned off.
The reason the note 8 had to be 1080p is because TH-cam recently permanently removed the 1440P HDR for mobile phones. Apparently phones at the moment can't handle, my note 8 started to struggle and the video slowed down even with 1080p HDR. But honestly that's just TH-cam being fuckinv shite. On Netflix HDR 1080p causes zero issues (not sure if you can go higher on Netflix, my account only allows for 1080p)

The difference between your HDR videos and SDR is noticeable but when I compare your videos to the demos and games running live something is off. I know there's an issue with the workflow not easily supporting HDR, but the darks and brights seem far apart but squashed in some way compared to the actual games. It almost seems as if a lot of effort is put into distancing the darks and whites without ensuring that the space between is mapped out in a way that is similar to what actually appears in the game. Is this an issue of going from HDR10 to HLG?

I'm love pCARS and I'm running at my GTX1070 laptop or GTX980Ti desktop, but GT Sport was really playable and nice looking graphics

Yes and makes such a difference I use the t80 thrustmaster wheel and my turns are very accurate more than a gamepad
GT always was wheel compatable. PD works closely with thrustmaster and logitech for development. Its the console compatabilty to mind since most wheels only support one console. My Thrustmaster T300 can run on both ps3 and ps4 though.
