  • Beans are a fantastic food. They are full of fiber and protein. They're economical, nutritious and versatile. It's almost magic what beans can do for your overall health. However those magic beans can have some not so magical effects on our digestive system...we're talking flatulence here. I'm going to show you how to take the gas out of your beans or at least reduce the lovely side affects of the mighty bean. This method is a good thing to have as part of “The Basics”. Thank you for watching Simple Food Simple Life. Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE AND SHARE. Your comments are always welcome.

    Most of us Old Country Boys would have Starved to Death if beans did not exist--we ate beans or peas seems like everyday. My grandmother would make Corn Dodgers-fried cornbread/pancakes to eat with the Beans and Stewed Potatoes--even tho we were Poor, I still have Fond Memories of that Country Cooking...

      Me too. On wash day, when mom was busy washing clothes in the wringer washer and hanging them out on the line, there was always a big pot of something simmering on the back of the stove. Usually that something was beans. Sometimes they would have ham, sometimes bacon and lots of times just flavored with bacon grease but we always had cornbread. Leftover cornbread was always good crushed up in a glass of cold milk. Life was different then. Food was simpler. Thanks for sharing with me. It is much appreciated.

    The more you eat beans the more your body adjusts to eating beans, so you're less prone to gassing in the first place.

    Once I ate bean soup the night before my flight overseas. I farted almost Every 10 minutes. Sitting on the aeroplane seat I knew that no one would guess it's me. The smell mixes with the airflow on the plane. And the seats absorb the noise and smell too. So it was a slow released rotten smell for about a whole hour. One lady behind me asked the air hostess what that smell was. The hostes did not reply. I'm sure she knew that it definitely didn't come from anywhere on the plane or outside the plane. I have never ever eaten beans again from that day on. Only when I'm alone. Someone advised me to get a silicone pipe and insert one end into my back side and the other out the window after eating beans. I have not tried it yet but I think it will work just fine.

    I am super crazy about most all beans. My mom told me that when she came home from work one day, that the baby sitter had given me and my twin sister rice and pinto beans and we (we were a year old, maybe a little more) we had rice and beans all in our hair, face and so on....😂😂. With that said, I'm certain that's where my love for beans comes from. ❤❤❤ Super glad I found your channel and I really enjoyed your presentation about these bean. I will for sure be trying it. I'll do a dry run 1st. If all goes well, I'll make my recipe. Every thing is so very high now especially food, and I need to stretch my food dollars as best as I can. Those who suffer from wheat gluten and are vegan should try Sher Black Chick Pea flour - Mill from Vancouver, BC. My mother soaks these black chick peas over night with little bit of salt and baking soda over night - then rinse them in the morning in cold water - takes less time to cook and are very soft.

      I don't boil and rinse more than once. More than just de-gassing I think too many nutrients would be rinsed away as well

    • @DANGJOS
      @DANGJOS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Xcris_crosX Well that's inevitable. It's polysaccharide sugars that cause gas in beans and water soluble nutrients are bound to be thrown out along with those saccharides when throwing out the water. Fortunately though, it's only some of the nutrients. Most of them should still be left over. Unfortunately, most of the gas causing saccharides are probably left over as well.

      1. Spread the beans on the countertop to check for stones and spoiled grains
      2. Wash and rinse the beans twice with fresh clean water.
      3. Soak the beans for at least 12 hours, changing the water every 4 hours. If you can.
      4. Boil the beans on the stove 3 times for about 5 minutes each, rinsing beans and pot each time. This removes the foam (.
      5. Cook the beans with fresh water and add: cardamom, fennel seeds, rosmery, carom seeds (Ajwain seeds), bay leaves and ginger. Place all these seeds in a tea bag for easy removal after cooking.
      6. Add all the spices you like such as garlic, chile, cumin, etc.
      7. Cook the beans until tender.

Stir the pot of beans with the baking soda. You can use up to a fourth cup but be ready for that foam! Do not forget to thoroughly rinse.

    According to Ayurveda beans should take time to cook, the more time they take the more nutritional and less gassy they become, so slow cooking over pressure cooking is recommended. Soaking is also highly recommend. And cook them in an open pot, oxygen is very important when you cook according to Ayurveda. So no pressure cooking. Ginger tampering with fat, added at the end before eating helps in digestion.

    Sometimes when you over-soak or cook the beans on low for too long they can go off and start to ferment. A black cook at a place I ate regularly in New Orleans told me she could "Cook the stink off the beans" this reminds me of that. Dump the water, replace that liquid and bring it to a boil and add new seasoning, meat etc. Never throw 'em out! Ya'll know about red bean Mondays in New Orleans, right?

      Sreenivasa Reddy Good question. I don’t think many nutrients, if any, are lost during the fifteen minutes. The beans are still very hard and not cooked. All we are doing is releasing some of those gas causing enzymes in and on the bean. Thanks for asking. I appreciate it.

    • @stevedaly3421
      @stevedaly3421 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Try sprouting the beans. Put them in a bowl and cover them with lots of water, as they will swell. Let them sit in the water for 24 hours, then drain and rinse. You should see little "tails" on your beans if they're fresh. No tails? Could be your beans are a little old. Cover with water again for another 12 hours and check. Sprouting breaks down the indigestible starches (the yuck) that cause the gas, while preserving the nutrients.

      @stevedaly3421 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@simplefoodsimplelife9632 FYI - the enzymes are not enzymes. They are indigestible starches. When they reach your intestines undigested, your gut bacteria (flora) start to consume them, releasing gases in the process. Enzymes actually help break down starches, proteins, etc. That's why lactose intolerant people suffer with gas and diarrhea when they drink milk and eat dairy products. They LACK the lactase enzyme that breaks down the lactose into glucose and galactose.

    so you cook thrm 2 times, rincing them well after you boil them.

    • @simplefoodsimplelife9632
      @simplefoodsimplelife9632  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Aria Invictus You are not actually cooking them the first time. You’re just bringing them to a boil until the enzymes form on the top. Then you rinse them in Coldwater, cover them with cold water again and begin the cooking process. Thanks for asking.

      Soak them over night with little bit of baking soda and salt - then rinse them in cold water. Cooking time is cut and they are softer!!! Try putting Lime juice on them - eat them like the Mexicans or the Indians do

      Hello! Ok, after you rinse the beans put them back in the pan, add whatever seasonings you like as well as salt and pepper. I like to add onion, carrots and sometimes meat such as ham, bacon or just whatever I have. Sauté all together for a few minutes with a little oil. Then cover with water and cook until the beans are tender. I have a video showing how to make “Clean Bean Soup” you might like. It’s very easy and nutritious. It is in the soup playlist on my channel. You’ll find lots of soups there. Thanks for your question. I hope this helps. Can somebody help with this...how to eliminate the gaseousness while cooking a raw cabbage, cauliflower, string beans as well as frozen peas n canned beans?

    • @simplefoodsimplelife9632
      @simplefoodsimplelife9632  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Crimson Lovlyn I know that these foods can be problematic for some. Personally I feel that over cooking cabbage can cause gas. Cabbage, cauliflower and broccoli are less threatening when eaten raw for me anyway. As for canned beans, rinsing them may help. Sorry I’m not more helpful. 😀

      I learned from The Beauty Detox that some foods are harder for some people to digest because their digestive flora gets out of whack with things like too much refined sugar, dairy, or processed foods, they leave your enzymes tired and overworked. She taught me to introduce these fibrous foods slowly Also, there is proper food pairing for best digestion and absorbtion, which makes complete sense and I never thought of that before!
