A two-fer! Not only did you show how to replace a gasket, you also showed how to replace the entire valve! I haven't had to replace mine yet (operative word "yet"), but now that I have seen your video, I don't think that I would have to call a plumber to replace it for me. Thank you!
You're welcome! Glad you liked the video, yeah this is a pretty easy replacement. If you ever find yourself needing to replace the fill valve, I am sure you'll get it done yourself no problem!
Solved! the running water problem by replacing with a new rubber seal for $4 and removing the mineral deposits and cleansing. Thank you!!! 🙏🏾 for the helpful DIY. TH-cam has been a lifesaver!
You should inspect the tank first!!!! If water is not going down the overflow tube then it's not the fill valve , it's the flapper. If it is draining down the overflow tube it's the fill valve.....
Thank you so much my drunk friend caused this issue and this tip saved me 5$ and my friend a whole lot of shame. Turns out the chain for the flapper was caught weirdly on the handle and all I had to do was pop it back in place
I've cleaned the grit out of the valve before but with the newer toilet I found it difficult. I watched a few other vids but your explanation was the clearest and easiest to follow. I'm going to buy the extra parts just in case since I live in a rural area far from town. Thanks, new subscriber here!
Thank you for an excellent video! I noticed my toilet making that whistling noise when other water was running a while ago. I didn't know how to resolve it until I noticed it whistling after flushing and the tank wouldn't stop filling. I'm not very handy but after watching your video, I felt confident I could replace the entire fill valve myself. I followed along and did the whole thing in under an hour, including the cleanup! Your video was incredibly helpful and the extra tips and tricks put it over the top. Thank you again!
Never heard the whistle. If your fill valve to tank seal is good, you can release the locking ring and pull both valves apart and then inset top of the new one into base of stem still in tank. re-lock with ring. Done. No need to turn water off, disconnect water line , flush or sponge needed. Easy peasy.
I only agree. 👍 I wanted to show that replacing the valve seal is an option too. But like you said, the fill valve assembly is not that expensive so may as well just replace the whole thing.
Hi Jay! I have two questions. When I flush my toilet and the water is leaving the bowl, it behaves as if it's flushing twice - the water pours out of the bowl for what seems an excessive period of time. What's causing that? How can I fix it? Also, when the water is refilling, it's really loud. I didn't even know that could be a thing. But it is on my toilet. How do I make it quiet? I wonder if these two problems are related. I replaced the fill valve almost 2 yrs ago.
I am not sure about the double flushing part but perhaps doing this little thing may fix both issues. Try partially closing the water shut off valve. Reducing the water pressure like that may reduce the noise and potentially stop the double filling. You'd need to try it to find out 😄
can you do a video on replacing or rebuilding a compression multi turn angle stop? I have 4 toilets and each of them used a Brasscraft multi turn valve on build. Every single one has failed and still leak when closed. I have to shut off my main or just deal with the slow leak with a bucket or towel whenever I do basic maintenance.
Sorry to hear about the leaking toilets problem! I wonder if your house water pressure is too high? Since all 4 failed like that. I don't know when I will make a video like that but I will add it to the list. If I was replacing my valves I would go with a shark bite quarter turn valve. Easy to install and holds up pretty good.
What was baffling me is that the tank water wasn't overflowing into the bowl fill tube but yet there was still water flowing into the toilet bowl even when the shutoff valve was closed. I replaced the flapper. No change. I bought a toilet fill valve and I guess that will be my next project. I guess I could give that "seal" a try but if the float is shutting off the water to the tank and there is still water entering the bowl then I don't quite see how it would be the seal that is bad. Maybe better to replace the whole fill vale assembly. It's old and I guess they go bad.
imo if your going to replace a fill valve you chould try to just pull up on the top part it might all come off together. you can replace it with a brand new one with just the part you took off by simply pulling up on the bad one
Thank you Eddy! Haha yeah, I felt like this video's joke was a little lacking but since it was in line with the topic I just went with it. Thanks for stopping by, have a blessed new week!!

Cool tip to rinse that part with the glass! 😂🤣 Number one and number two!
So helpful!! Thank you so much.

best to replace fill valve at the onset. They are not that expensive and easy to find then just the valve seal.
Xactly, but that is a good tip I never knew about. I always have replaced the valve assembly. 🤙🏻

Good video, I was lucky to just clean out the valve seal and it fixed the issue.

Thank you so much! 🎉

Do you still work on air conditioning and heating ?
Yes but not too often.

Toilets are going to run. Just make sure they stay hydrated. Maybe a little stretching couldn’t hurt either.
Sooo, no plumber's putty or silicone grease on the rubber parts to make it even more leak proof?
😃👍👍👍
🙂🙏👍
❤😊
🙂♥
So what happens if you do all of this and it still didn’t help the problem?
You rinsing off the minerals made me have to pee 😂
When I flush my toilet it just overflows so what kind be making it do that

and if the flap is bad, you need to take off the tank.... so might want to do all at the same time.

You float isn't floating..
Aloha my friend , nice informative vid and I can't think of any better reasons not to drink from the ole toilet ... Stay safe
