  • This brief lecture introduces you to the topic of soil structure interaction. A description of the basic phenomenon is given, and general guidance is provided as to when SSI could be beneficial in a structural response analysis. The idea of kinematic and inertial analysis is introduced.

It’s one of the best video on Soil-structure interaction I have ever watched. I have read about 6-7 research paper on the topic. But, I have to admit, this video provided me with much more knowledge. Thank you so much!

Super video. From a structural engineering point of view, there are no "soft" structures. In fact, I have never heard of the term. Soft story, sure, but that doesn't apply here. Here we would call them flexible structures since you mention stiff structures, in the same breath. An interpretation from a structural point of view for kinematic interaction would be the compatibility, or "displacement interaction", while inertial interaction would refer to "force interaction". If we cant solve our forces, we start looking at displacements. Ive probably watched this video 3 times. Love it.

Great and clear introduction to the SSI. Perhaps the SSSR ( soil-to-structure-ratio ) could help to determine when to use a SSI analysis. SSSR = h/(Vs*T). When SSSR > 0.1 perform SSI is very advisible, otherwise not.

great video. I have always wondered about this magic number that determines the characteristics of the spring replacing the ground. Because replacing a multilayer nonlinear soil with a single digit is, in my opinion, quite breakneck :). for engineering purposes it seems to me that a simplified model could be built. because for buildings, total settlement is of secondary importance. if all the foundations are lowered evenly it is not a big risk. however, it is important to determine the differences in the settlement of the foundations or the angle of rotation for a single foundation. a useful procedure would be to replace the soil with columns whose deformation would be the same as for the soil. length of these columns to meet the standard conditions. while the stiffness of the column would increase with the depth and it could be determined, for example, on the basis of the oedometric modulus. a reliable procedure for calculating such substitutes is needed. I am asking someone with the appropriate qualifications for help, I can also offer mine.

I am registering for opensess but they ask for middle number, what is the right answer to complete
"You have provided an invalid answer to the question."
    and the quenstion is
What is the middle number?: *
