  • This lectures introduces some of the basics related to measuring dynamic soil properties (e.g., modulus, wave propagation velocity, damping) from soils. Several field (i.e., in-situ) and laboratory tests are discussed including seismic reflection, seismic refraction, SASW, MASW, downhole Vs, Uphole Vs, crosshole Vs, cyclic triaxial, cyclic direct simple shear, bender element, resonant column, and torsional shear test.

    Dear Dr. Kevin Franke ,
I am a graduate student and I am doing my master in geotechnical engineering. I wanted to thank you for this amazing course. You helped me significantly in grasping the concepts of the subject. I wish for you and your family all the best.

Thank you for all your videos. Plus your english pronunciation is very clear for those who don't speak and understand english very well, like me.

Thanks Dr. Kevin , this was great lecture. How could one use the dynamic properties ( shear modulus and damping ratio) for ground response analysis. thanks in advance

Great presentation! I have a quick question: can a site's (soil) dominant frequency or period be mathematically derived from the measured shear wave velocity? Or is it just approximated? (to avoid high amplitude resonance during earthquakes)
