Federer's ability to manufacture unbelievable shots is unmatched. Doesn't matter that others have won more GSs. Djokovic & Nadal, although brilliant players, are basically super advanced pushers whose tactic is to wear the opponent down with their consistency. Federer was something else.

I don't care who has the most GS titles - no player gives me more pleasure watching than Federer - the exquisite ball striking and flair. Djokovic's and Murray's game is too defensive-oriented, Nadal muscles the ball too much. For angles, placement, disguise, variety and just pretty tennis, Federer is unmatched. I do not listen to arguments about the Tennis Goat because they miss the point - and the point is Who gives you the most pleasure watching? Who is greatest shot-maker? Who plays the most sublime form of the game? Marcelos Rios is great, but I vote for Federer.

Outside of being one of the greatest ever, I am not sure if there is someone who has a more pure shot-making ability, and racquet manipulation skills than Federer. Just the ability to improvise and hit the most ridiculous shots with any variety of spin on the fly is the best I have ever seen. I have watched a lot of tennis in my day, many times live as well. Fed is to tennis what Picasso is to painting, Michelangelo to sculpting, Pavarotti to opera, and Mozart to music.

Picasso really a bad example here, seems like you were throwing random names 😅😅Federer like Michelangelo and Pavarotti represents the culmination of classicism, the pinnacle of flawless style and substance above personal tastes and cultural barriers. His tennis was absolute like fine art. That I agree. Picasso was a different beast: an experimenter, a deconstructionist of visions, a forever-work-in-progress like Dalì or Van Gogh. Not really the case of Federer, I'd say more similar to Djokovic to some extent.

I’ve been playing tennis for the past 3-4 months or so, maybe a bit longer. Have a decent forehand, backhand and serve. Like Federer, I use a one handed backhand and when I rally against my dad, the backhand will sometimes go in, other times not. It’s so impressive and mesmerizing to watch someone like Federer. Those “simple” shots that he makes, aren’t so simple, if you hit the ball 1-2 degrees wrong, the point would be played completely differently. His consistency, skill and ability to play the game is just amazing. Playing the sport myself gives me a sense of higher respect for these pros.

Can we just take a minute to applaud the insane footwork that allowed Roger to hit amazing shots like this? The current crop of players have such crappy footwork that it drives me absolutely mental. They want to win more consistently? Then fix the subpar footwork and movement. If you think about the one thing Roger, Rafa, Novak and Andy all had in common? Great footwork and great movement around the court.

He still hit those. The RF97 is more of a warhammer, not so fast to swing so till the end he didn't get that insane manueverability he used to have on the forehand. But he still hit those shots, only with much less effort, because the racket was way more powerful. People don't realise how much spin and pace is really there in Fed's shots because he hits them with such ease, the inside in actually curves significantly sideways away from the opponent. That's why they all struggle with his forehand.
