I seen checking a few videos and they all involve the type with buttons and a swivel. Thanks for pointing out that although some styles look like that, it's just a style. I figured it might be a handy thing to throw in with my emergency earthquake gear, but instead it's been wrapped up in a bunch of newspaper with a warning written on it, in a drawer because I didn't know what to do with it lol
I have a lever button old automatic Italian stiletto... It still open perfectly and the spring is still very tight and it still have a great kick when the blade opens up, better stay your fingers clear out of the way of the blade when it opens up.... But it's really just a classic lever button Italian stiletto with a 6 inch blade... I had two of them back in the day and I gave one to my father. I would never sell this knife even for a million dollars. I will keep this knife for all my life and I will give it to my son when the time will comes...
I wholeheartedly agree with your views on politicians in general, it's the same damn problem we have with them here in Denmark - they haven't got the foggiest clue, but they _are_ more than happy to make up stupid laws that make no sense at all. _Occasionally_ they'll roll back one of the dumber laws, but that's _only_ after it demonstrably has impacted a heap of all the wrong people, for the wrong reasons, but to be honest the police are partly at fault as well, because they could simply choose not to enforce the dumber laws that serve no purpose, besides simply creating more criminals that otherwise pose no threat to anyone, but I digress. As for why some assisted and/or automatics are illegal, I have a theory. Now, on paper, an assisted or automatic is quicker to deploy (despite the fact that most one-handed opening knives can be deployed just as fast), and that gives your lawyer ammunition to try to get your sentence reduced, when you've flown off the handle and stabbed someone. Because, at least where I live, an action taken while under duress or in a stressful situation carries a lighter sentence than a premeditated action. I assume your legal system has something similar. So, _if_ you can deploy a blade "without having to think too much about it", it _could_ be argued that what you did wasn't premeditated and more of a panic reaction, and now some muppet ended up with a knife in his chest. If quickly deployable knives are just illegalized, they can always get you for carrying an illegal weapon, and if you stab someone with a regular folder, they can claim it was premeditated because you'd have to have _some_ sort of ability to think and act coherently, to open it up. But that's just a theory.

Lateral forces aren't really relevant with a stiletto. They are purely for stabbing and the blade geometry isn't well suited for anything else although mine has always been a great for opening letters. I got a Karambit in the mail yesterday from Fox Knives of Italy and I wonder if it would be more effective at the time of need than the pistol I normally carry.

Regarding being able to easily make knives, people can make guns. They can grow weed, coca and opium. They can lock a homeless guy in their cellar and use them as a slave.
