VIDEO DESCRIPTION
How to draw one point perspective linear perspective drawing: This drawing tutorial provides drawing tips and a basic introduction to understanding the fundamental principles of one point perspective linear perspective. We will discuss how to do a linear perspective drawing in one point ( 1-point,1 point, one-point ) perspective
This can help set the foundation for drawing a house, tunnel, birds eye view, aerial view, room, building, street, city, background, etc. using linear perspective
the best explanation of perspective in youtube, thank you, very clear and straight forward.
Thanks for your professional teaching, there is no one in the net explaining the art material as you do ,your simple way proves that you are great artist and teacher ,God bless.
I literally take notes on every video I watch from you. You are officially my art teacher LOL. I always think of what you say and apply it to my drawings, and I must say - my drawing has improved!!!
:-) I love hearing of progress
You're a genius teacher, Alphonso! You're making perspective appear to be a neat trick and not an impossible hurdle! I love your videos!
I'm sure this is gonna get lost in the sauce but my god Alphonso. You teach in the single most thorough manner I've ever been taught. Every single one of my drawings since I started like... 3 weeks ago has gotten progressively better having watched your videos. I can't thank you enough for helping me get more interested in drawing. I love this.
Thank you so much Alphonso -- You did a fabulous job. I think I understand perspective a lot better now!!!
My professor recommended your video on cross hatching which was phenomenal! Now, I am learning Watercolor, and perspective, and to my delight, you have masterful videos on these topics as well. I have always struggled and been intimated by perspective, because of math. You sir, are a very fine teacher! You are articulate, and have thought of everything a learner would want to know. Thank you🌹
Only art teacher i can actually learn thank you! Pls keep making this amazing content!
When Filippo Brunelleschi figured this out in 1413 it changed everything, architecture, engineering, art, the whole world. The birth of the renaissance, and everything since is because of this insight on perspective. I can only imagine how it must have felt to be the one with this epiphany . Great job Alphonso, 5 years to the day.
Indeed indeed!! 🙏🙏🙏
Alphonso, I can only second the positive comments on your videos. You are brilliant in explaining and teaching. For your artist work too.. Please accept my appreciation for your sharing. Bought your books. They are on my table. Heard in one of your videos that you wanted suggestions for your book no 3. These are my thoughts;. A book taking the "perspective" as the foundation, then adding the other parts on top from you first book. Bringing it all together to "The Third Level", From your fan in Copenhagen, Denmark
You are genius😊 all the time I want to understand this but no one can like u did. Really thank u from Egypt 🇪🇬
Stellar video with tons of info! Thanks for this gem 🙏🏾
I know I am late to the party, but this is by far the best explanation I have seen. Good job and thanks for the valuable content!
I love this set of videos. I don't remember if I commented before but you explanation of perspective is better than any I've seen or heard before. Thanks for making it simple.
+chocolateeyes21 Thank you.
can you please continue this series for two point and three point perspective? I'm finding it very helpful!
You are amazing, Alphonso!
Yessss a new video! Thanks you Alphonso^^
Wow! U're enriching my knowledge Sir!! It's wonderful stumbling onto ur tutorials👌🏿
The best explanation about perspective here on youtube. fabulous, thank you very much.
Thanks much
please make a video like this for 2p & 3p (if u have time), ur explanations of perspective have been really helpful 🙏🏽
absolutely brilliant tuition, thank you Alphonso x
That was SO helpful. You explained it really well and the examples you followed through with made it even clearer. I now believe, with a bit of practice, I'll be able to draw pictures with one vp with no trouble at all, all thanks to your very clear instructions. In fact I'm going to practice your 3 examples now! Thank you very much. I've subscribed and can't wait to watch more of your videos.
Thanks so much. Glad you found them useful
I just watched you video- Beginner Portrait Drawing E1 | Proportions of the head. I'm so excited to go away and practice and to watch more of your videos and buy your book (i hope it ships to Australia) but it's after 1am and I really need to go to bed. You have an amazing ability to communicator and demonstrate so clearly and simply it makes it a) easy to understand and b) your enthusiasm for doing things in the right order etc is definitely catching. Can't wait until I can get back to my sketch book! Thank you for inspiring me (and probably many others) but most of all thank you for helping me feel like it is something I can achieve!! That feeling is priceless to me (as I've spent much of my life being told I can't....) Thank you, thank you, thank you 💜
Believe me you can do it! You can do it!
@alphanso dunn, pls complete with 2 point and 3 point perspective. Really need them. Awesome you.
The problem has been very puzzled, after reading your tutorial, and suddenly. You are really great!
thx :-)
Thanks for this great video, great explanations and best tutorial. Exploration lines I guess those are called ( invisible ones ) they are the ones help me understand most. I hope I will get better thanks to you.
"Ok, in this tutorial i'll show you guys how to...".. it's already become classic and it's very expected every week! LOL. Thanx and hugs!
lol
I am taking a summer drawing class.. Thanks you for uncomplicating linear perpective. Part ONE is excellent... The way you gave the over view works with my learning style..I now see what and why...
Very welcome : )
On your next book(cross fingers that there's a second book). you should add this lesson. this is probably the hardest part of drawing for me. I have to refer to this video when I'm drawing buildings all the time and it will be nice to have this teaching with me next to my sketch book. Thank u so much.
+Jillian Agustin hmm thats an idea
+Alphonso Dunn New year resolution? Lol
hmmm...one more coudlnt hurt :-)
THANK YOU! I'm still floundering a bit but I shall practice & listen, once again, to this tutorial. VERY HELPFUL!!!!
Glad it helped
The most clear and concise description and examples. THANK YOU!!!!! :>)
Very welcome. Glad it helped
Excellent explanation of perspective and of 1, 2, and 3 vanishing points.
thanks
Please finish this series so far it's been a great learning resource for me
+Ye Ol rufus Definitely will
The best explanation ever again.
: )
Awesome video. I sure hope you can do more perspective videos, because I know its a difficult thing for many of us
coming soon
Awesome thnx. I appreciate your videos.
Great videos, have watched several of them. Would love to see more 'architectural' type drawing tutorials... Love your work...!
wow this is exactly what i was looking for, im trying to do perspective in a small storyboard sized areas, only thing i don't know and really miss tho is how do i put people / animals / cars (especially people tho) inside those small perspective areas?
Hey Gos, this may be 4 years late but if for whatever reason reason youre still wondering about this, consider having a look into FRAMED PERSPECTIVE Vol. 1 by Marcos Mateu-Mestre and HOW TO DRAW by Scott Robertson (books)
Omg I just discovered your channel and I fell in love ! I LOVE THE WAY YOU TEACH YOU MAKE IT SO CLEAR ! Cant wait for the other parts ! And perspective is a tough subject , and Im just asking myself , are we using these techniques to draw scenery and landscapes ? (1pt , 2pt and 3pt ) or its just working for building, street , city etc .. ? Cause Im struggling hard ! I know we have to get the fundamentals , and when it comes to landscapes drawings I just dont know where to start , where to find the inspiration etc ! Just don't know how to do ! I'd be really happy if you'd do a video in depth on landscapes, inspiration and perspective in it ! I know you already did , but I dont know how to use perspective in it !
Thanks so much and those are excellent questions! I will definitely work on a video addressing those concerns :-)
Oh my god thank you ! And thank you also for taking the time to answer to each of us ! :D
no worries :-)
Thanks 🙏🏻 you are very clever and helpful
Hey Alphonso, awesome lecture! Do you plan on going further into perspective? Like technical stuff? I would be super interested to learn how to create fantasy buildings and castles, but the perspective and techniques behind those concepts seem super difficult... Would be awesome if you could tackle those topics!
Sure, just send me a link to a pic
awesome ! :) i can't wait to see the rest of the perspective tutorials :) I managed to understand 1 and 2 points perspective, 3 is a bit harder but i'm working on it ! But the biggest struggle I get is because each scenery/urban sketch that I try to draw (I'm an architect so i really want to practice this...), I get totally confused because all the objects are not parallel ! So I end up messing up and my drawings always look weird xD.
My art teacher talked about this in class but I didn't really understand it until you made this video. Thx
Glad I helped
Really helpfull video, you show it in very simple and effective way! Thank you :)
Ilona Sokólska glad it helped
As always, great tutorial Alphonso, but one thing...beginners like me have a hard time, and almost never see videos that teach how you would show NON parallel lines in perspective, vanishing point. Say in the picture you did on the right, if one building was curved. Or if say a wall is wavy instead of straight. I particularly had a problem with drawing a cabin for example, because it had two rood sections, one “normal” and another jutting down from the side at a much larger angle. That angle “breaks” the vanishing point, I can’t follow the parallel line vanish point because it is angled. If that makes sense.
love it. and jujs noticed those lead holder pencils are in colors. i didnt knw that. cool. where do u get the sharpeners for them?
blicks, pearl paint, ac moore, michaels, etc. Not sure which art supply stores are available where you are
***** pearl paint? never heard of that. but yea blick, ac moore and michaels..cool. im hitting up those places ty. ;)
wow , very helpful. thank you
my friend.
Thank you so much! It is increadible! I understood all!
you are really an amazing teacher.........
+shaji m. vasudevan Thanks so much
you are an amazing artist
Thanks much
Alphonso -- where is the light source in the bird's view? I'm sure it's the sun. At times it might be directly overhead but if it is coming from, for example, the right, wouldn't the core shadow be on the left sides of the four upper right-most buildings? The light source would switch sides twice a day?
Ephraim Hendrix Yup I agree...But remember you can choose virtually any light source you want...once youre consistent throughout the work
you are the most helpful teacher i know thank you for making my learning easier lol :D
Youre very welcome
I've had issues with birds eye view. like a really sharp birds eye view like you do in this video for a long time and creating really long cityscapes but this gave me an idea to try out. :) Thank you.
no worries..glad it helped
Thank you for providing Part 1 and Part 2 in linear perspective drawing / One Point Perspective in a way that is helpful to me in trying to understand this subject. Much appreciated! At the end of this video, you mention that you will "repeat this concept when I do a two point perspective drawing". I have searched among your videos, but have not been able to find this continuation. Is there a Part 3 with Two Point Perspective on this site? If not, one can always wish for one to come along...
+H Nygaard Thanks. Glad you found it helpful. I will definitely be continuing this series. Stay tuned :-)
These tutorials are awesome. I wanted to buy the book from Amazon but it is only print format which I cannot order to my country. Why don't you also offer kindle digital format in Amazon?
I have enjoyed many of your videos and have started drawing some after many many years. ha ha.. Thank you
K G no worries..glad to know you started again :-)
Thank you so much for such an excellent tutorial!
Spanish Dancer glad you enjoyed it :-)
Another amazing tutorial.
Thanks
Very nicely explained! Thanks!
yw
Hi great tutorials.
How do you figure out where the horizon line goes in the birds eye view though? is it where you're eyes are looking or is it to do with the angle your head is on?
Actually the horizon isnt visible. Think of a vanishing point and all the lines converging to it
***** Oh ok that makes sense. thanks
THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU HELPED ME A LOT. UR SO UNDERRATED LOL
drawing in perspective is my favorite thing.
:-) its fun
Complex > Simple > Complex. Superb video!
thats it
What I don't understand is how master artists are able to draw a wrong shaped object (say, a cube that's distorted and gives an impression of perspective when there's none) and it will look exactly the way they wanted to show it. A wrong shaped vase or a house with a flat roof that has a slight angle. Or a person who actually has one hand shorter. They're like "I mean it, it was like this!" and I believe...
The voice of Alphonso, the voice of inspirational background. ^__^
Oh, by the way, any tutorial on a better way to draw perspective when vanishing point is way too far to draw it? Just from the feeling or any scientific approach?
lol your comments are something else...pleasant read...but as for the "way off" vp..elaborate a little, if you can
*****
Eh-heh... I don't get it. But I'll try to watch quietly. =3
Will perspective come naturally with practice or do I have to draw these lines every time?
Stupid question, I know, but erasing the lines leaves marks and I'm only starting to learn, 10 years too late.
its good to use them for finished drawings where accuracy important but eventually you will start sensing things and trusting your intuition
Thank you very much. Very helpful.
No problem
So what's the next step now :p, what do u guys recommend after this?
The horizon line is so confusing because I can never find the "ground". How do you find it??
will u plz put a video on bird eye view with scale how to draw how to give height to a particular object
You got it : )
hello! thank you for the tips, I have a questions, there 3 types of vanishing points in the video, at the last part you only demonstrated the 1vp,
how do I know which one should I use ? is there any rule ?
You can hvae 1,2, and 3 point perspective drawing with 1,2 or 3 vanishing points. If you do a 1 pt perspective drawing you use 1 vanishing point. If its a 2 pt perspective drawing you use 2 vanishing points and so on. In this tutorial I did 1 pt perspective drawings. I will do 2 pt perspective drawings next. Stay tuned :-)
***** what are the benefits of having more than 1 pt perspective, are there any limits , sorry about the annoying questions :P
lol Not at all...good questions..The benefit of having multiple perspectives is primarily to allow you to more complex, dynamic and interesting spaces. You can explore a building or house in a more comprehensive way, so you're not limited to just showing one side and showing it straight-on, you can show a house from multiple point-of-views. Hope this helped
^_^ thank you for taking time to answer me!, I cant wait to see the next part :)
expect more questions next time :P (kidding)
lol
When we want to draw things on the rooftops, do the lines need to be converging too?
+Pixel Craft Builds yes only if it is seen in perspective
+Alphonso Dunn thanks :)
Thank you so
im loving your videos
can you can create one for how to shade for absolute beginners please please please
thats coming : )
Thank you!
Make and model of the pencils and pens you use in pt1 and pt2?
How do you know when to use 1 point versus 2 point or even 3 point? I feel like 1 point is only for when you want the drawing to look like you're looking down a tunnel, and 3 point is only when you want to look down on things from a bird's eye view. I feel like I'm making assumptions that are hindering my growth.
Those two assumption are actually right, but it also depends on position of the subject you are drawing with respect to your position?
Thank you for replying! I have another question. Is 2 point perspective supposed to be used for everything else that's not tunnel-like or bird's eye view-like? Also, how do you know when you want to use it over the other two?
Very good video
Hi. I was wondering if you posted a two point perspective tutorial?
Lol not yet..i do need to finish that series
I don't get how to use perspective in a creative way?
I know how to draw it and i know how to draw every object in a cube but when it comes to ideas for drawing in perspective. It always sucks. How can i actually use perspective in comics ore just in composition.
+Leolaus try to come up with the ideas first then use perspective to organize and give structure to the space
great! thanks.
yw
Cannot find 2 point and 3 point perspective videos?? Thanks for the help
not yet
Kunal Thakur, I am also looking forward. Pls we need it.
Very fast pace!
what makes my brain hurt is that this assumes that all objects are neatly aligned in a grid. for example, if all the furniture in a room are facing the same way, this works fine. but lets say i rotate the table 30 degrees. now all of a sudden i cant use the same vanishing point for the table as for the other furniture, or it would make the table look diamond shaped (assuming it was square to start with). how to fix this problem? or am i wrong?
You're right, but its not as difficult as you think. Sometimes the appearance of them converging is all you need and not necessarily them converging literally
Thanks really helpful video
Very welcome
Thanx so much
U r awesome :)
+Yamen Hrara very welcome :-)
my teacher gave me a perspective drawing(interior design) we need draw it we need to know wer is the perspective, how to know where is the perspective?
but anyways i understant it better now, thankyou!
P.S its not a one perspective its more than
Where is the perspectives?
It is very showing the vanishing point it is hard to grasp by a beginner
Ok
lol
When you are comming with your 2 point perspective tutorial (part 3)
: ) on its way
@@alphonsodunn where is it? I can't find it. Is it in some other playlist?
Thanks :)
Still waiting for 2 point and 3 point....☹️
I should watch this earlier
show us 2 point and 3 point perspective
of course
Draw anime yuo
Why lol?????
O_O
A bit too long on the theory though. ..
then skip it, since you know it already lol
Thank you!
