I want to say light to medium. First session was light winds, second session was 30+ knots on the 12m. That said, it didn't feel like it was pulling my arms off which is generally the case when that overpowered.
Have you guys tested the smaller Aluula kites for foiling at all? Wondering if the Aluula benefits translate to foiling, particularly foil boosting. Thanks for the reviews on all the new gear!
Hey man! I ride the the moto X apex (lighter and stronger than normal dacron, not as light and strong as Aluula) (7m, 9m, 12m) and do a good bit of foiling. I like to do a lot of strapless foil airs, and I notice a huge improvement in jumping performance. Even in the lighter winds that I like to foil in, the kite doesn't collapse when I are sheeted in after the apex of the jump (which can happen on kites that aren't as well supported; less struts or weaker materials) and it delivers great height and hang time due to the speed and highish aspect ratio of the kite. However, there a was downside that I noticed with the Moto X Apex vs the normal one. I am a little more likely to front stall the apex, and this is because the kite is designed to sit at the top of the wind window. When you put lighter materials and make a more aerodynamic kite, this characteristic is going to be emphasized even more. It depends on what kind of foiling you do, but if I am riding waves or doing maneuvers where I ride downwind right at the kite, I have to position the apex version more than I would the normal one, simply because the normal one is heavy and not as aerodynamic. On the apex version the benefits outweigh the costs, you just have to get used to the higher position in the window and get a little more creative with your kite control! I would imagine that the new Design works would just have more extreme cases of the two characteristics I talked about: Even better or jumps but possibly worse if you are wanting to do slack-line foil maneuvers than need the kite to sit further back in the window. Hope this helps, shoot me a message back if you have any other questions!
@@waltwright2092 Thanks for all the info! I am trying to decide between a foil kite vs. Aluula kite for foil boosting. I haven't found much online talking about how foiling is with Aluula but sounds like the Moto X works well. Do you mostly use your 9M for foiling in 12-15 kts? Cheers!
Great question-thanks for asking! 🤙🏽 Some of our guys have kitefoiled a bit with Aluula kites. Got a moment for a web chat? Click the following link, and we’ll do our best to help: messenger.providesupport.com/messenger/mackite.html
how's the bar pressure? Super light? or a bit heavier than the normal moto x?
