  • There are many ways to experience Raja Ampat in West Papua, Indonesia. Here is what to expect if you choose to travel to and explore a local village with your family. We would highly recommend visiting the Saporkren Village, just outside of Waisai (Raja Ampat, West Papua, Indonesia). Ask someone to guide you through the village, learn about betel nut, tour the cemetery, swim on the beach, and drink coconuts. There are so many kids to play soccer with, a game of tag, or to teach you how to fish. Speak with the locals and learn all about the village life. Saporkren Village has some of the friendliest people we have met. It is just a short walk from the homestay, as well (see our last video). West Papua has so much to offer! Join us on this off-the-beaten-path side trip, as we immerse ourselves into the culture.

      January to June we were on lockdown. I had to teach my reception class (kindergarten) online from Jan to end of March. I still had about 6 keyworker children coming in for normal sessions at the same time, so it was an experience lol! 😂 Thankfully after that its been back to normal teaching in the classroom. We are currently on summer holidays and school resumes at the end of August. I just finished repainting my bedroom and looking at visiting Edinburgh in Scotland for a few days before term resumes.

    What I really like from your videos, you came to a place not for a mainstream tourism object, but you wandered to some unseen places, an authentic and very local atmosphere. That's why it's so interesting for me. So thank you for bringing me to my Indonesian places that I have never stepped.

    "Pak" is short for "bapak" means "sir/father" and "buk" is short for "ibuk" means "mam/mother".
    For kids you can call "dik" short for "adik" means little brother/sister.
    Actually, little kids will laugh if you call them "buk", it's like addressing middle school female students with "mam" in USA. Sounds funny right? 😁😁😁
    And you can call "kak" short for "kakak" means elder brother/sister.
    In some parts of Indonesia they may have some specific nicknames to call each other but "bapak, ibuk, adik, kakak" are the common ones to used in almost all parts of Indonesia.

    Chewing sirih pinang actually quite common in South East Asia (especially Malay/Indonesia archipelago). My late grandma did it too, but the amount of sirih (Piper betle) she used was more than pinang (betel nut, Arecha catechu), only a shard for one or two sheets of sirih leaf. And sometime she add some tobacco too beside kapur (lime stone), the one you try to sniffed 02:25.

    • @BagsPackedFamily
      @BagsPackedFamily  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me, it we very interesting learning about pinang, and the steps involved. It is very popular in Papua, and as I’ve now seen, many parts of Indonesia. The lime stone was the most unexpected part of the process.

    sangat disayangkan tour guide nya kurang pengetahuan nya tentang alasan orang mengunyah pinang untuk tujuan apa, karena bagi masyarakat tradisional indonesia itu sudah menjadi tradisi hampir di semua daerah, juga tidak disediakan nya life jacket / pelampung saat naik perahu saat menyusuri perairan, entah apakah pengelola juga sudah menyediakan P3K dan alat komunikasi saat terjadi kondisi darurat di raja ampat.

    Pak is sir, so calling a boy pak is not suitable . Ibu is maam suitable for elder women or whom you think is married. For young girls it’s neng. Ask if not sure instead of just sounding strange for a bule
