  • Sometimes the best way to experience a city is to take a walk. In this episode, we spot some wooden boats and decide to explore some more. We wander down an alleyway and find all types of friendly people, watch people loading boats, and even try our first Soda Beruap Putih. Afterward, we decided to travel by tuk-tuks (we have to take 2 since we are a family of 5) to the famous Fort Rotterdam. We learn all about the complex history of this city, and decide it’s time for a snack break: coconuts! We end the day at Pantai Akkarena Beach, playing in the water and watching a gorgeous sunset over the Makassar Strait.

I'm a big believer we are at a time rasing a child but in hindsight we are raising adults to be hopefully adventurous and confident . So your choice to travel with such young childern is amazing, what adults they are going to be.
Such a shame not every child in this world has opportunities like this .
    Safe travels guys 🥰

kalau orang Makassar melihat ini saya harap dibaca yah, jadi kalau pekerjaannya jadi supir, penerjemah, atau penjual toh jangan mi ma pattol atau apalah. samakan saja harga turis dan non turis, supaya wisatawan itu senang. dan agak lama2 tinggal dikota kita. percuma lah kalau dimakassar banyak UMKM, banyak penjual, banyak pengusaha, tapi mappatol apalagi yg kek begini, ini di vlog loh. harusnya punyaki sifat jujur, sifat siri. supaya orang luar daerah dan turis banyak buang buang uang di sulsel 😁, kan kita sendiri ji juga yg kaya daerah ta, karna pemasukannya banyak, saya jamin deh semakin banyak org liburan di sulsel otomatis pemasukannya tambah banyak, itu yang punya kontainer penjualan pasti laku terus jualannnya. intinya begitu, jadi turis betah dan senang, kalau tidak tahu bahasanya pakai bhs isyarat atau pakai google terjemahan., jangan mi sembarang bilang. kalau tdk tau diam 👍 akhir2 ini kota mkssr sudah banyak di kunjungi wisatawan dari sumatera dan jawa, kalimantan, sy kira org2 dari pelosok2 kabupaten ternyata bxk dari bandung, Jabodetabek, surabaya, malang, dll. mungkin ini efek CPI kali yah 🤣

Bahh, betul sekali tawwa.. harusnya janganmi curi2 kesempatan utk kasi naik harga mentang2 turis begitu. Org beginia yg enak satu kali ji napikir, tidak napikir kedepannya kalo bagus caramu pasti nasuka ki org luar datang terus kesini. Bagus tongi itu kalo makin lama makin banyak turis luar dtg kesini.

Btw I hope your children are not shocked that much by some of these "Ultra friendly" people who like to hug or touch them out of a sudden, I can see that they are uncomfortable. Most mean no harm, their act is coming out of curiosity because they are probably never seen foreigners directly before. But just make sure to keep eye on it, don't hesitate to block them if you see they are coming too close to them.

sometimes local soda in a bottle like that is not meant to be drunk like that. there's a variant where we mix it with sweetened condensed milk and other ingredients to become another drink called as soda gembira(literally means happy soda, but this name can be different in each region). therefore it sometimes tastes bad, sometimes even tends to be bitter. that's why probably you should ask if it's ok to drink straight as it is or not
also better if you survey local prices. because some people might taking advantage of you by applying"foreigner"prices. also choose the place you want to visit wisely. not all people here are bad,but a precaution is needed, since foreigner is an"easy target"and you're traveling with your family (it's kinda different like when you're traveling alone). stay safe and i hope you enjoy your trip

First, it's not a tourist spot, sir, it's a market near the canal, where all the basic necessities are there. if on the beach akkarena indeed a tourist spot, only a few people go there. usually busy on sundays. only if you want cool tourist attractions in Bulukumba and Selayar areas, there are many Australian tourists because the scenery is like Bali, you can also go to Gowa to see the Balla Lompoa Palace or the Makassar Imperial House in the 15-16th century. You can also go to Maros to see the ancient park or to Jeneponto to see tourists from Australia surfing with kites

But anyways, if you want to have some good experience on swimming at a clean beach, I suggest you to visit Bira. Bira is located in Bulukumba (takes 7-9 hours with car) it has clean beach and clear water, and if you want to feel more private experience, you could go to the island ahead of this beach named Liukang Loe Island. You would take around 30 mins on boat. Very clean and clear island. I know that you guys are no longer in Indonesia but hey maybe one day you will come to Makassar again.

Used to go there every Saturday morning with family some 15 years ago, and I'm surprised Akkarena haven't change much, but such a shame they still doesn't really maintain it that well from the looks of it.

Sehingga Citra Indonesia dimata dunia makin baik

Hey sir..... I recognized you. So I saw you with your family in Fort Rotterdam. It was on Sunday. I and my friend were about to leave the fort and I saw you with your family were asking to the guard that "Can we record the video?"
Actually, I really wanted to greet you with your family but I was afraid and little bit shy 😅. And yup, it was too hot outside because of in the middle of the day.
Hope you enjoy your trip in Makassar and other cities in Indonesia.

Idk why some comments talked about *it's not a tourism spot* while many of the tourists want to experience the vibe of the city, native's daily routine and interactions. You can't expect all foreigners are going to Bali, surfing or spending time at rice field's villa.

I always admire your content. You guys are really happy and brave to visit exciting places while other youtubers don't. Btw the people there love to touch your cute kids especially the cheeks, that's because they really admire it, Indonesians really like that, but don't worry, they just annoy your kids. Ok guys.. enjoy the city of Makassar. Keep spirit and stay healthy 🙏🏻💙🤩🤗😎

Thank you so much for your kind words! The check touching is a cultural aspect that we are becoming much more comfortable with. We experienced the same thing back in India several years ago.
