Nice little extension job that can't do much about wet bricks this time of year I am building 12 by 4 concretes in footings at min which doesn't really matter if they are wet but got rained of today built for three hours in the rain but had to quit when I realised I was soaked to the bone and the mortar started dripping of sides of mortar boards would have been better of using a paint brush instead of trowel good upload lads shows the real graft involved when doing domestic builds👍

😆😆the hair dryer lol brilliant a blow torch handy. Big 2 meter level very handy buddy couldn’t be without it. Proper hard graft as always steve. A feel your pain in these type of jobs always damp weather comes when setting out exc managed to get a underbuild done for a extension prior to last snow week or so back. All be in the bloody light rain on and of. Picked bricks other week for wall repair half the things were saturated 😡 used them today luckily were a brick that soak the life out the mortar so wasn’t to bad. Looking forward to you and boy Alex banging this out. 😎 take care.

You need a gas burner gun. About £25 for a big one, and then get a a medium size gas bottle. Would dry those 1000 bricks out in about an hour. Bottle last a long time. I also use mine if hard frost and if working off a solid base thats slippy with frost or ice. Thaws it out a treat

savage stuff Steve and Alex....not often you see a bricky doing the slave work of ground works along with doing the masonry on the job too....I'm an Irish bricky myself here in New York and just like ye here when we doing a small job we do the lot here too,in this country you cant be a 1 trick pony😂 I do the machines the concrete the plastering the lot. always will have a job then if other work runs out,lovely work lads hats off to ye👍👌

Great job the wet bricks are pathetic we all have to put up with it and its not on .I went from concs under ground to trencb blocks to trench fill foundations now. Trench blocks with handles are the best haven't seen em in a while here.
What size are your cavities up there 120 to 150 here could live in these cavities now 😂😂 great work again keep that van clean mate.

@@SteveAndAlexBuild oh yes, the bricks in your video were soaked. I've got two pallets of wrapped dry aircrete blocks to lay, so unless the trench is wet tomorrow, was going to use a weaker & wetter mix.

It made me laugh. When you were doing your setting out measuring from corner to corner. Had a joiner the other day making us some dummy windows he never heard of measuring corner to corner to make sure they were square.As a result they weren’t square. When I come across wet bricks I got my heat gun put it underneath them and it gets so hot there steaming

Small sites can be awkward can’t they, very similar to what I’m doing at the mo, what you got in that mix ? We’ve been really struggling with it going fluffy but drying out, i think it’s either multi cem or the sand from mkm I’ve never used either before, keep it up boys

A good think for drying out brick is a industrial heater from a hire company they are not much to hire and will dry the bricks out very quick
I used them all the time on conservatories , but I wasn’t paying for the hire 😉. I need to buy something a bot more portable 🧱👍🏽
I bought my heater for on line it was £156

Nice n clean guys .. how long does it take for the bricks get dry with the hairdryer ?? I did something similar last week with some bricks we cut with water and dry them with a heating canon lol .. a bit overkill but it worked hehe 😁🙏🏼

I think building merchants now need to start preparing bricks being covered up because the winters now are just wet it’s a joke all the bricks get delivered these days and they are soaking wet you’re paying for a product which isn’t right

Could you mark the courses of the house on a staff then transfer them to your 2 corners. Will help keep you gauge.
We divided the courses into the height and got 77 mm per course so it was easy enough to gauge as we went 👌🏼🧱👍🏽
Nice one thanks. What is the story with the wet bricks? If they are too wet the mortar wont dry? Im guessing here in Oz they must spend their time wetting them to get them to stick.
If they are wet they won’t absorb any water so instead the water in the sand and cement oozes out and runs down the face plus you can’t build as high as the weight of the wall makes it sink 😬🧱👍🏽

Have it easy nowadays with 25kg cement bags,back when I started,cement was 50kg bags,all that changed in the 80's or was it's the 90's due to HSE..

Great videos! It looks like you've used 140mm lintels and I was wondering if there was a reason you didn't use 65mm lintels? I'm doing foundations as a DIYer at the moment but used 65mm lintels for a span of approx. 1m. I'm now wondering whether that's enough.

I cant remember which brand but they are all pretty similar. We generally put about 10 mils in 🧱👍🏽

@@rosanneennis725 Not not daft at all . The bricks need to absorb a bit of water from the sand and cement otherwise they will just sink , plus if they don’t absorb it it runs down the face of the wall too . Hope that makes sense 👍🏽🧱

Why were the bricks so wet when they were delivered to you, why can’t you send them back. Under the circumstances not a bad days work for you both.

Why don’t you have your mixer on a stand
Sold the stand at a car boot sale years ago , can’t “stand” them 😆. Seriously we find them a pain unless you are tipping into a barrow which we never do 😁🧱👍🏼

The Belles always seemed top heavy and kinda dodgy from memory.
For smaller jobs a lower more stable base would be better, maybe design it to be tipped into a tub.

On wet bricks we stack them in honeycomb stacks (like yours) and then use a gas torch on them, very quick to dry!
