I absolutely agree about tracing. I can absolutely freehand the basic proportions, but when I'm already going to take weeks, sometimes months, to paint a piece, spending the least amount of time on the basics just makes more sense to me.
This is actually a very smart way to learn how to paint fur and hair. Most people learn as they paint other parts of body. They are fighting proportions, shapes, value, ect, while trying to learn something new. It just becomes frustrating. While you went about it in an actually more intelligent way. You isolated the problem and worked on that specific part finding solutions that can be carried over to other paintings.
Something that may help you take your fur to the next level is that fur always grows in a certain direction depending on where it is on the animals body, Thus when you were putting in your dark hair you went in every direction rather than putting your hairs down following a direction. So on the animals back the fur will always grow towards the back as a general rule. On the sides of the animal as you progress from the back to the belly the hair grows gradually towards the back to the belly.
You are incredibly gifted and so charming. I love watching your videos now to paint like you would be a blessing. I know practice practice practice. Thank you for sharing your gift.❤
I love the effects you achieved. It was nice to see how to do it in stages to get the desired outcome. I have a much clearer idea how to get the "real" fur look.
As I’m watching this, I’m remembering your video about not drawing with charcoal that I watched yesterday…. Watching this, I realize you are working with these paints exactly the same as you did with the charcoal (with the blending, erasers, & sponges! ). It makes perfect sense now! Thank you.
Hi, thank you so much for breaking down your painting process in these easy-to-understand steps. Such a cool idea! You helped me a lot to understand the whole thing 😄
Beautiful detailed video ..thankyou so much for explaining this way ... for the first time I understood layers .. 😊😊😊😊 This painting of snow leopard is awesome 👌
I am a beginner but am loving your videos! I tried to replicate one of your birds and I was blown away. The grid is brilliant, and all the other techniques you share. I'll be over here devouring your videos! Thank you!
Geniooo total! Me inspira por un lado y me frustra por el otro! Pero con joyas de dedicación intentaré llegar a un buen punto !!! Un Gran Abrazo desde El Salvador y Ananda!!!!
Always great videos Daniel. Just finished a massive lion painting and I'm "satisfied " with it but my fur details need some fine tuning. I called it good enough and it's now hanging on my livingroom wall. Now I can watch your tutorials and stare at my painting to see where I went wrong (or at least not quite right) haha
Thank you for your videos! I painted my first animal after watching how to paint fur on your channel. I have a long ways to go, but I’m very very proud of my first painting! I know it turned out so much better thanks to watching your fur painting techniques and how to do washes.
Wow! Great way of doing it and Incredible idea of showing us how! I usally work with pastels but this makes me want to get my acrylics out again. One question, what surface did you work on in this video?
Your work is incredible, you really have inspired me to take my paintings to the next level. This video in particular was very helpful, thank you for these lessons. By the way, the only thing better than your paintings are your charcoal drawings!
Can you please tell me what surfaces you find are best to paint on ? Also, do you use any acrylic mediums? Your work is really nice.......thank you for your informative video. 🥰🥰🥰
Thankyou very much for your videos. I am a new to painting animals and your videos have changed and helped me alot. Lots of respect, thankyou for being there to teach❤.
Great video! I appreciate how you took the time to break down each of the steps in painting realistic fur. I have been taking a break from painting for a little while and have been mainly working with graphite. This video has encouraged me to get back into painting! :)
I haven't gone through all of your videos yet. Can you do something with short hair, like a deer?... especially on the face area where the fur looks stippled? I'm just starting but have been tasked with painting some deer and can't figure out how to do that look without it looking too busy and weird.
I can understand this tutorial and honestly the reference fur pic ended up looking less real than the painting. Also, maybe it is just my eyes, but the pic looked more yellow and not very gray compared to the painting.
Enlightening! Does this use paints that have retarder mixed in, as per your latest video - or just the water? . Which could lead to a question on when during the process you'd use said retarder. 😊
These were the same paints that I used for the latest video I filmed them both at the same time. The retarder was added at the start of the process as I was mixing up the paints. the good thing about it is I can add water in exactly the same way as I would without the retarder and it works in the same way
I' ve used your glazing technique, but i'm a little disappointed about the color that result flat...i'd like to get more chroma but not impasto or too much covering. Could submit you the painting for some advice?
I'm trying to paint a smooth concrete dog I painted it all black it needs hair I want to give it a white collar nose and chest like a black and white border collie what should I do next??? Please help anyone??

You are a great teacher. So glad a came across your channel

Excellent demonstration of painting fur. Thanks for sharing
I'm a beginner in acrylics but I achieved pretty good results with this technique. Thank you for sharing!
Brilliant as always, thank you for the tuition

Great job! This time I understood lagers. I’m more a drawer than a painter but I will try it ones😊
Thank you for sharing these techniques

I love the effects you achieved. It was nice to see how to do it in stages to get the desired outcome. I have a much clearer idea how to get the "real" fur look.
Gosh! It’s amazing .you make it look so easy ! But it’s super difficult. Thank you for sharing
Very cool!Thanks for sharing

Excellent technique, it does look better!
Thank you!
i realize i go with my own, but your process is more practical and very precise and quick to achieve things in less time.
This demonstration was far more informative with the various stages shown. It was like a light went on,'ah that's how it's done.'
Great tutorial to get you started. I know colour mixing can be subjective, but you do give enough away to let us “fill in the blanks,”. Thanks.
Your explanations are so helpful!
Very useful video
Nice job
Key point color variation. But subtle
Nice

Can I just buy the fur you just painted 😂 I think that is beautiful.
Nicely done!!!!
Amazing video. I’m really trying to create that soft yet detailed effect on my subjects. Currently working on a horse.

I am big fan for your work really want to learn more from you sir…

Omg thank you so much ❤❤😮😮😮😮❤❤❤
Wow!!! That looks amazing!
Daniel, thank you for sharing details. Like your techniques very much.
And showing stages is really great feature to demonstrate the style.
Thankyou for a great tutorial………will practice, practice, practice to get fur on my animals looking like this. 😊
Exceptional tutorial! 👍🏆👍
Have you ever used ultra fine point acrylic paint pens for final highlights?
Regards, Will
Wow! Great way of doing it and Incredible idea of showing us how! I usally work with pastels but this makes me want to get my acrylics out again. One question, what surface did you work on in this video?
Thanks, this is just some watercolour paper but it was just to demonstrate. I would usually work on canvas or wood panel
❤❤❤❤
That was really helpful!!!
Good thanks

Love your artworks the are impressive! How do you frame your large pieces (including charcoal ones)? Do you use glass?
Did you just wet your canvas please? Ahh I see your working on hotness watercolor. Do you do that often?
I can understand this tutorial and honestly the reference fur pic ended up looking less real than the painting. Also, maybe it is just my eyes, but the pic looked more yellow and not very gray compared to the painting.
ery good drawing and effects. I also really like to draw. Here you have my subscription 👍.
You are incredible. Need a patreon page for USA
how do you get the first layer so wet on the paper?
Hiii Thankyou

@@StudioWildlife Brilliant.
Thanks -
Surprised, in some ways, manufacturers don't make a set of acrylics that have retarder already included.
❤
😲👍👍
👏👏👏💯👍
what do you do with the canva after you paint for a tutorial video? you throw it away?
I am not quite sure but you already said how do you manage to make acrylic transparent for glazing ?
I just thin the paint down with a bit of water
I' ve used your glazing technique, but i'm a little disappointed about the color that result flat...i'd like to get more chroma but not impasto or too much covering. Could submit you the painting for some advice?
You do it with acrylic who i should do it with oil 13:05
Acrylics on hot pressed watercolor paper???
You can never have too much money. You can never be too healthy. You can never watch too many fur painting videos.
I'm trying to paint a smooth concrete dog I painted it all black it needs hair I want to give it a white collar nose and chest like a black and white border collie what should I do next??? Please help anyone??
Wow … WHY even though the black is dry, why isn’t it reactivated and smearing ?!
can you personally train me
1st
Lion dominates tigers
Pov: you’re painting on cardboard because you don’t have a canvas
Acrylic is plastic. Have your fun. Enough said.
Thanks!
Thank you! glad you’ve found the video helpful 😁
