The clutch less gear change and cruise control is brilliant. Handling is much more precise than the older bike. Spread of torque is much better. Can’t stand wire spokes on a motorcycle. They are for bicycles, not modern motorbikes.
BMW changed the R12 frame to a one-piece to lower production costs, but I think they improved chassis stiffness as a result. The biggest shame imo was the decision to reduce the tank capacity and hence range. The biggest plus looks wise was the removal of the snorkel and the tidy up of the rear and injectors... Looking forward to what you throw at this bike and how it performs on track
keep guys going! i want to see how to swap the rear shock. i have ohlins sitting in my garage for some time, and do want to get it done myself before the weather gets decent to ride daily!
We haven't ridden the R1250, however Stu has ridden plenty of bikes in his time racing in the BSB support classes, so his feedback being positive is good news for our ears.
Haha! Our poor fox! Its usually the cat, so the fox makes a change! Yes, the changes for our build will be subtle but will make the difference aesthetically.
Hi David. Thank you for watching. Regaridng lowering the bike, I'm not aware that BMW will do a 'low chassis' version of this bike, so that's out the window, however the lowing needs to be done, at both end of the chassis, meaning it is quite comprehensive from a work and cost point of view. I don't know of any suspension suppliers that have sorted a lowering kit as of yet.
I'm a big fan of this bike BUT is over 30k here in NZ, for an old school air cooled motor from the gs???, I can get almost 2 new z900s . Bmw need to rethink there greed before they become the next KTM....
Most important thing to remember here, children, is the that Pier City's PRIMARY goal is to transfer your wealth to their wealth--it is NOT to make your bike faster, better or cooler looking--yet all of that may well happen in the process (or may not), but those are side issues, merely methods, marketing and sometime only hype, specifically intended to separate you from your cash. It's called capitalism. Nothing particularly wrong with that--but then again, where YOU'RE concerned, nothing especially good about it either. Just something to think about...
I haven’t ridden the R12 but I still think looks-wise it’s a downgrade on the R9T. The weird tank shape and removal of the air intake results in a more bland look. Riding wise I’ve been told it has better suspension though.

Haha and here I am mourning the removal of the snorkel, I think it adds a distinctive character to the bike visually
Yes, I definitely like the look of the tank and snorkel of the last gen bike
Thank you very much for watching and we are planning sublte but 'factory spec' changes. We too are looking forward to the track feedback.

We put some pictures of this up on our story last week. Its quite a bit more work than the R NineT platform.
@@PierCityCustom would you be so kind to share pictures on how it was hard to swap?
Think you got it wrong when you said r12 9t has got a steeper steering angle, in fact the older r9t does and it should be quicker steering
I have put a Wilber’s on mine, transformed the bike
If the handling resembles the R1250, falling into slow direction changes like mini roundabout at low speed, best stay with R9T 3G

While the R9T needed rear shock and (possibly ...) airbox and battery mods, the R12 looks great. I think BMW have shot your fox 😀

Any thoughts on lowering the bike. I have a R12 nine T and at 5’4” with a 28 inside leg. Could do with a couple of inches lower. To flat foot.

BMW > KTM 😘

Akaprovic should not be omitted on a new model especially when the old one had it. Cheapskate BMW.
You blind? It amazing looking now!!! Huge improvement!!!
I'm not a fan of that R12 badge under the tank
shits ugly. RnineT looks way better
💯💯💯
You blind?
Sorry RnineT euro 3 for Ever 🤪
