My first C64 longplay. The Last Ninja series is my favourite C64 series of all time and LN2 is the best game in that series (in my opinion). This is part 1/2 due to TH-cams 10 minute limit.
Listen to that soundtrack! If I close my eyes and throw the earbuds in, I can still see little SlyBeast sitting on the carpet playing this on his family's wood grain TV with dials that controlled the channels. Makes a man cry nerd-tears.
Last Ninja 2, the first game I bought!! Man was that exciting! Those were the times, C64, and the Last Ninja series was top fun to play and always had a top soundtrack!
It's been what? 20 years? And I'd STILL play this over 80% of the games I have for my PS3. A true classic if there ever was one. The music alone made it worth the price on the box.
This for me is the all time greatest C64 game ever. I was addicted to this game big time back in the day. Even took my C64 and this game on holiday with me so I could play it in the evenings (much to the annoyance of my parents!).
How long ago it was, I can't believe it, part of my childhood. Music is awesome, synth tones and pitch effects are great! Perhaps I'll make cover of this on my synthesizer
not only a masterpiece of a game, but a masterpiece of programming too. How the holy hell did they squeeze all this out of an 8-bit system with so little power? In laymans terms, if this game was a movie, its the equivalent of making Inception or Avatar, complete with all the CGI, in 1920. It breaks my mind to even start to think about how the hell they also got it onto the ZX spectrum and it ran at the same speed. To squeeze that much power out a spectrum is like being able to tune a Ford Model T to beat a Ferrari. This isnt programming, this is black magic
colinm213 i love your comment. this game was my favourite game when i was a kid. i was 10-13 of age with a C64 and this was the game that captured my imagination . best game i have played, besides Shadow of The Beast 2 .
+colinm213 Seriously it is an overrated game. The gameplay and the longevity sucks and the fighting system is just ridiculous. It's famous only for the isometric graphics and the awesome music.
I've always wondered about the people you are fighting in this game. In LN1, it seemed fairly clear you were fighting the shogun's minions, but in the first two levels of this one it just looks like innocent civilians and policemen are just defending themselves because a *fucking ninja* has just run towards them with a sword, nunchuks, shuriken stars and a massive stick. That Armakuni may not be the good guy he's made out to be. No one ever thinks of the henchmen. (Best version of LN2 by a country mile on the C64! I know the gameplay has aged terribly, but it does seem odd that it's just been dumped in the past. I hope that remake happens.)
Damn! This goes way back. I get a lot of wierd flashbacks, totally Deja Vu :) I remember getting up early in the weekends and eating cerials and playing this game :)
Oh wow. I remember having this on my old C64 way back in the day. I had the big boxed version with the map and shuriken star! I just found a c64 emulator and yep, I'm still as crap at the game as I was all those years ago. Best game music EVER.
Back in the day I owned a Sega Master System, then in 1988 I seen this game on a mates C64, ended up selling the Sega and buying his C64, best move I ever made. Im pretty sure it was the SiD chip that turned me over, fucking awesome soundtrack to this game, would rate it in my top ten of all time.
@Fastbikkel Thanks for watching!: ) There's something about those childhood memories, new games will never have the same impact on me as these old ones did.
I agree with you guys, The new games and systems are not the same. Even though we have PS3 and XBOX with the graphics and stuff but the old games had a different taste. I miss them, God knows how many times I played Ninja I & II & III. wish i still had my commodore 64!!
I was ten or eleven years old, I still love this game, i finished it like four times in my old cbm 64, the commodore version is even better than the amiga one!! this guys were capable to do wonders with these old machines.this and barbarian 1 are my favourite games.
One of my alltime favorites! Pure classic at it's best! Not only the music was epic, also the graphics! When I first saw this game back in the days 1988 I couldn't believe what I see. And the music, ah, it's so fucking outstanding that I recorded it on tape by holding my ghettoblaster at the tv speaker. Then I listened to the music while delivering newspapers. It was great. :D For me it's the game with the best soundtrack there is and ever will be. It's impossible to top. Thumbs up!
Wow...that brought back memories. Haven't played that game in nearly 20 years. When I heard the first couple of bars of the Central Park opening tune, my exact words were "Yeeeahhhhh muddafakka!"
I absolutely LOVED the tune to this level, the SID chip was the best!! - Funnily enough, I think it has been used in a Justin Timberlake tune (sadly) but it proves there's still life in the little synth yet :)
I have listened to the awesome music from these games on my SID player and even today 20 years later I am amazed how much they managed to get out of the SID music chip on the C64. The music on Nintendo 8bit consoles was nowhere near as well made or composed. Last Ninja was a milestone and sold very well.
Back in my childhood, This game was fantastic and is still in my heart forever, the music of this game was far the best I've never heard LN2 forever C64 music in this game still the best, the amiga version hasn't got all the soundtrack music (the loading if I remember)
The smiley wasn't necessary for ME at all. ;) The JT song you ment was "ayo technology". This is a Timbaland production for 50 Cent and it's featuring Justin Timberlake who sings the hook/chorus. The other song which contains SID synthesis is "doin it" by Nelly Furtado, also produced by Timbaland. While ayo is original Furtado's song is a rip off from a finish demoscene composer. There are a few clips on youtube regarding this. cheers Daniel
@deesies Slowly Armakuni clawed his way back through the darkness of deep sleep, back to where he felt safe. As he forced his eyes open, he was greeted by a sight that his experiences could not have prepared him for. Armakuni is now standing on a hard wooden floor surrounded by strange objects that vaguely remind him of musical instruments. Time travel!!!
Yes!!!! Last Ninja 2 was soooo great!!! I still remember where I bought it yeeeeeeaaarsss back! A great game with no downsides. The music of the Park level was great!!!!
I always thought the cops were shooting at you, I don't think the graphics are gonna help us out though. Fair play though you've got some skills, i remember eventually completing this years ago and some of the jumps were a nightmare!
yes yes yaw! dat wuz my favourite part of all three last ninja. as a kid i also used to run through the streets of my hood, wearing a black scarf 'n hoody, searchin' fo' clues. it wuz fun but my mumz got angry! : D
I was like 11 when I got this game. I promised myself if I ever got rich and had a mansion, every room would have only ONE guy in each room, wielding numchucks and wearing motorcycle jackets
I have to say the Mansion was the best music in this one. Towards the end, it actually has shades of the original theme from Last Ninja 1 in it and the Wastelands ... which was an awesome touch. Central Park is my second favorite, though.
All kneel befoer the almighty SID chip! Put that in your spectrums and smoke it. Oh those old playground wars. This was always one of the best top trumps to beat those Speccy kids. YEAH! C64 was RAD! (I can not believe I just said that). And a wave out there to the one kid in the playground who never got involved because he was scared due to being the only kid with an Amstrad. Happy days.
as far as I remember, that was city map and it was required to leave the park. otherwise you would got lost in the city and you'd had to replay the level... but I might be wrong. it was long time ago ;) I only finished the game on zx spectrum
Used to like completing this time after time as it felt like being in a kick ass movie. Pretty incredible when you're a kid and nothing had ever been seen to this level. The first game was very good, but not on this level. The music throughout is just phenomenal as well.
Ahh those vertical lines what was it?Some kind of loader no?I remember something like: load"last ninja2",8,1 haha. One of the best games ever look at the views almost 54k!!!Thx for posting man.
Long live the police-dodging, stick-poking, moonwalking, burger-eating Last Ninja! Remember getting a demo of this with a C64 magazine, but it only had up to the sewer, so never got to burn the croc :(.
A great game. The graphics were brilliant, too, at the time. I found the timing of some of the jumps REALLY frustrating though. A few joysticks went through the window then, I'll tell you!
this takes me back time to break out the commodore 64 i heard there was going to be a remake of the last ninja does anyone know what happened to it and if it will ever come out
You don't have to look at the computer to get the code for the safe, I just did that in this video since that's how it's meant to be played. The code is actually the time you enter the level (so if you enter the level at 13 minutes and 46 seconds, the code will be 1346).
i remember after we played that game we went to the playground and try to do a salto it seems to take forever but finaly we made it :) but it was painfull ^^ a friend of mine broke is arm by trying it
graphics was amazing for the C64 i remember this game i would play this game for hours my bro got it, he normally got crap games but i remember this game and i was like omg ! its amazing i was 8 when this game come out, where did the time go? i'm sad now =[..
Might have been a limitation of the C64, but I love how each section is "built" as you enter it. The music is great too.
Listen to that soundtrack! If I close my eyes and throw the earbuds in, I can still see little SlyBeast sitting on the carpet playing this on his family's wood grain TV with dials that controlled the channels. Makes a man cry nerd-tears.
For me it was in my room with a 34cm tv. A few years later, an Amiga 500 would be added to that room, then a Super Nintendo.
My pure childhood, i am honored that i`m one of those people that still remember this brilliant piece :*
Last Ninja 2, the first game I bought!! Man was that exciting! Those were the times, C64, and the Last Ninja series was top fun to play and always had a top soundtrack!
dont forget robocop.
It's been what? 20 years? And I'd STILL play this over 80% of the games I have for my PS3. A true classic if there ever was one. The music alone made it worth the price on the box.

In the Top 5 Best C64 games of all time. Your vids are great! Nothing can replace the feeling of these old C64 games.
This game is so brilliant...and the music is epic majesty...simply fantastic. So many great memories...
It's good to see the NYPD is finally handing out shurikens to their beat cops to deal with the rampant ninja problem.
Love the first ingame tune. The sweeping baseline gives me goosebumps everytime. :P
Music in all Last Ninjas are awesome ! Impressive the amount of music c64 could produce, no wonder the games never got boring ^^
The sewer level had possibly the coolest music of any commodore64 game ever.Great remixes are still being made of these tunes.
best game ever on the C64...legend..finished it 22 times...
How long ago it was, I can't believe it, part of my childhood. Music is awesome, synth tones and pitch effects are great! Perhaps I'll make cover of this on my synthesizer

Very fine comment, sir. Couldn't agree more!

There was only one programmer, actually =) www.mobygames.com/developer/sheet/view/developerId,5193/ The rest were designers etc

I think I got this game, many other and a C64 for a christmas. Remember playing it as a kid. Thank you dad.
This gives me great memories from the year 1988.
Damn! This goes way back. I get a lot of wierd flashbacks, totally Deja Vu :)

I was ten or eleven years old, I still love this game, i finished it like four times in my old cbm 64, the commodore version is even better than the amiga one!! this guys were capable to do wonders with these old machines.this and barbarian 1 are my favourite games.
I much prefer Barbarian II. It's epic, and the fantastic enemy designs are the best on the C64.
ah yes, thats the one I remember from my childhood. loved to watch my uncle playing it, but never got it right myself ^^

Matt Gray was the god of c64 music
one of the best games i've played in my life.
Long live Shogun Kunitoki
The late 1980's has some fantastic games this one is one of them :)
I have listened to the awesome music from these games on my SID player and even today 20 years later I am amazed how much they managed to get out of the SID music chip on the C64. The music on Nintendo 8bit consoles was nowhere near as well made or composed. Last Ninja was a milestone and sold very well.
amazing to think that as a very young kid i could complete last ninja 1 and 2, games today are so easy
Great memories from the year 1988. The Last Ninja games from System 3 owns!!
Back in my childhood, This game was fantastic and is still in my heart forever, the music of this game was far the best I've never heard
LN2 forever
C64 music in this game still the best, the amiga version hasn't got all the soundtrack music (the loading if I remember)
Yes, the cassette version of LN2 is the one to have.
Yeah,I downloaded a SID player for my PC and played it and was amazed how well it stood up after 20 years. They did miracles with the SID chip.
this was the first game i had on C64... still love it!!! I feel like a timemachine :-) lol
The smiley wasn't necessary for ME at all. ;)

I always liked the funky Streets theme.

The music was incredible :-)
even ninjas must wait for the green light=)
I think it's funny that a ninja has to wait for the light to cross the street safely,he should jump and dart across traffic!
Ahh the memories ! Funky music too ! Thx for the upload :-)
Wonderful memorys with this game !
Used to like completing this time after time as it felt like being in a kick ass movie. Pretty incredible when you're a kid and nothing had ever been seen to this level. The first game was very good, but not on this level. The music throughout is just phenomenal as well.
Any of you remember Vendeta. It was made by Sytem3 as well.

Long live the police-dodging, stick-poking, moonwalking, burger-eating Last Ninja! Remember getting a demo of this with a C64 magazine, but it only had up to the sewer, so never got to burn the croc :(.
Awsome!!! Best Childhood memories!
A great game. The graphics were brilliant, too, at the time. I found the timing of some of the jumps REALLY frustrating though. A few joysticks went through the window then, I'll tell you!
Yeah, the music stands up very well after all this time.
Amazing what the achieved with 64kbs.
3:11 - come on man he's a ninja! Just jump over the gate!
One of the best game soudtracks of that time.

1:42 Dude did the moonwalk away from the wall.

Great tip thanks! I just checked and it works :)
For anyone trying, you have to note the time during the loading screen for The Office.
i remember after we played that game we went to the playground and try to do a salto it seems to take forever but finaly we made it :)
but it was painfull ^^ a friend of mine broke is arm by trying it
I made it only once past the first boat - and died because of the bees... ^^ Nice work and thanks, laffer!
the music is perfect!
Strongly resembles the track from The Dungeon in LN1. Anyway, Basement was my favourite, but all tracks were outstanding.
Gotta love the musics!
graphics was amazing for the C64 i remember this game i would play this game for hours my bro got it, he normally got crap games but i remember this game and i was like omg ! its amazing i was 8 when this game come out, where did the time go? i'm sad now =[..
