I just loved the Last Ninja music on the c64. These little gems are timless piceses of great computer music history.. This tune, makes the hair on my arms stand right up :D, It's just beautiful.. I remember playing this back in 1988, it's amazing what the "SID" chip could actually do:D No wonder that ppl still makes synths with the SID chip included The Last Ninja along with Katakis is my musical favs on the c64
I personally liked the Palace the best from both of them. What was great about this theme was that it had shades in it from the Original Wastelands in the First Last Ninja starting at 4:10. I was so impressed with that.
Yes I totally agree with this particular track, one of the most epic tracks from the game. Words cannot describe how good the part from 3:35 is. So beautiful.
Don't get me wrong. Central Park is seminal and is probably the reason most people listen to the whole soundtrack. However....this song is the shit!!! Fucking love it.
Why do these songs always get so kick ass near the end! I just keep skipping to the half way point and listening! Hehe, amazing songs for the system they were on. Just goes to show the love they put into the game.
I hear you dude, it's just not the same playing on an emulator. Having the original keyboard linked to my TV in the living room with my whole family watching as I played LN 1, 2 and 3 are some of the best memories.
I'm a big TD and C64 music fan, and heard this before I ever got into Tangerine Dream, so was very surprised when I came across Alchemy, as I thought this track was a C64 original. However, this is such a remix and goes off on its own path after a while and I love it, as I do all the Last Ninja 1 and 2 tracks...
Matt Gray will make a remake of the entire Last Ninja 2 OST :) His Kickstarter poject has already been funded, but there are more stretch goals to be unlocked. And of course, you still can fund and get the OST :) Have a look and back the project up if you want: www.kickstarter.com/projects/1289191009/reformation-c64-track-remakes-by-matt-gray-last-ni He already published one remake you can listen to here: mattgray1.bandcamp.com/releases
@@bbenjoe It sure is. It's been years with no news. This HD remake will NEVER happen sadly...at least not from system 3. Only hope now is fans out there.
@Databamse Don't get me wrong, Matt Gray kills it, the entire soundtrack to Last Ninja 2 kills it... but the first half of this track is about 89% Tangerine Dream.
Maybe I’m crazy but I always thought this and lightforce by rob Hubbard sounded similar. Maybe it’s the ascending arpeggios at the beginning of both, and that they’re written in the same key though
you better find a c64 emulator for pc/mac (with Last Ninja 2 rom) and try to catch the track from there... or search the web for other "ways" to download it.
FPAMulle Better yet...back this and get remakes by Matt Gray himself!!! www.kickstarter.com/projects/1289191009/reformation-c64-track-remakes-by-matt-gray-last-ni
According to internet stalking, he now writes stuff for people like Girls Aloud and the Sugababes. I'll let you decide if that counts as "doing music" or not.
Not much are stolen. He just used the "opening" and made a badass version of it. I LOVE Matt Gray and his music is better than the original source, so personally i just LOVE that he did this. Tnx Matt Gray and Tangerine Dream, for inspiring him. Best soundtrack ever. He did the same with at least two other tracks too, and thank god that he did. They all sound AWESOME and WAY better than the original songs =) MAD LOVE
I read and listen to inspirations for video game music. After listening to Alchemy of the heart, I have picked out Super Castlevania IV (The Chandeliers) and Star Ocean (Purge thyself...although purge thyself is a lot slower...its still in there) that possibly borrowed from Alchemy of the heart (for those who like to listen, both of those tracks, listen about 3 1/2 minutes into Alchemy of the heart)...so Matt Grey isnt the only one to pick out Tangerine Dream.
This is the Heart of the C64.

The Last Ninja along with Katakis is my musical favs on the c64
Between 4:08 and 4:45, a beautiful tribute to the great predecessor.
The Mansion is so good, it would fit any 80ies action movie.
Still amazing. Loved my C64. Memories
I have no words for this. Just listen and listen and listen again.
Epic! C64 was the ultimate "gaming music system" back then. Todays games are so empty.
Still holds up today
The best tune in this OST. Definitely. From 4:54 begins the awesome part.
+OSH0891 Hi! You should check out the Last Ninja album currently on kickstarter :-D
One of the best c64 songs ever.
next - Burial Nightmarket
in mind that you probably know already, check out "Rabit - Tearz"
one of the best soundtracks EVER made for a game. its worth a play only to hear the music.
This is the shit, right there. Nothing beats it
Something wrong with you if you think this is shit.
MephProduction it's a saying, not literally
@@MephProduction Saying "the shit" (emphasis on "the") means that it is the best
Best track in the best video game OST of all time ...
That part starting at 4:05 gets my hair standing on end every time... incredible callback to LN1.
The soul of C64..
the jump passage on the roof was freaky hard!
What Kind of a melod,y. Incredible.
3:26 always pierced into my heart like "you know I have your soul now" kind of way.
I personally liked the Palace the best from both of them. What was great about this theme was that it had shades in it from the Original Wastelands in the First Last Ninja starting at 4:10. I was so impressed with that.

face it - there's no rewind-button in life. if there was, I'd like to go back to the last time I played this game.
Don't get me wrong. Central Park is seminal and is probably the reason most people listen to the whole soundtrack. However....this song is the shit!!! Fucking love it.
I have to agree, just loved this tune. On its own its good, realising its the set up to the last battle and its spine tingling.
Never played the game but the music is great i wouldn't called it shit fair from it.
Apart from the street loading tune this is the best one, and I really love the tribute to LN1 from 4:00 to 4:45
Have you heard Matt's remakes? they sound incredible.
heard them, bought them, loved them.
I love this.
Epic.. i Love this game and the Soundtrack was the best Sound ever on c64!!!
Kiedy słucham tego wałka, za każdym razem mam ciary na rękach. Genialne!
most amazing track of them all imho
If there wasn´t "Shadow of the Colossus" I´d name "Last Ninja 2" as the best game OST ever...
Tears
The first melody is taken from Tangerine's track "Alchemy of the heart", which was released just a year before LN2.
The first of MANY games to use Alchemy as an inspiration
Damn! Guess great artists only steal from the best :D
Goosebumps.

Just goes to show the love they put into the game.
my favourite too. Well manufactured for its time
I cant believe what a movie woud be with this amazing soundtrack, do it!!!!
Nice one, many says its starts late listen to the gem and then listen again. It starts early.
JUST DO THIS SHIT 2 HOURS LONG!!!! We need no actors here. Cause this is just magic at ears.
I disagree sir. The whole track is uncomparably awesome. Actually, all the tracks in this game are uncomparably awesome.
Totally agree, and for me, the best SID music ever made.
Makes me want to visit MY arch nemisis.
Legendary Game and Soundtrack!
I always thought this was one of the best tracks from the game. It hasn't been remixed as often as many of the others though! =O
I hear you dude, it's just not the same playing on an emulator.
Having the original keyboard linked to my TV in the living room with my whole family watching as I played LN 1, 2 and 3 are some of the best memories.
I want this song to be played in my farewell!
dope

I hope in the HD remake we'll have the option for the original score of C64.
It will. System 3 confirmed this at facebook =)

rabit tearz
burial nightmarket
Burial ended up sounding like he was ripping off Rabit... lmao
Rabit sampled it horribly, he made the sampling sound like it was offbeat, Burial fixed that
where did rabit sample this?
Because ITS Just fuckin umbelieveBle.
Do you know where I can get this sound track on mp3 or FLAC?
hard
hmmm goes kinda like Giana Sisters? :)

@markmarijnissen Only a very very very very very limited section of the tune is based on alchemy, the rest is done by matt.
And I agree to that!
3:57 - mhmm
Haha, I was just telling a buddy about Nitemare 3-D's "adaptation" of it before I noticed the comments here. It's just a cut-down version really.

Ahhh Said this before. But Changes nothing. :)
The midi version is even better.

Best song in teh game... is he stealing from tangerine dream though!? I never knew until I came here and saw posts about it. That cheapens it a bit.

@huaxiong90 I dont think so.
The sequence at the begging sounds stolen from Tangerine Dream's song 21st century common man. watch?v=-O95l1-xRvM
Oh wow, and even more compared to Alchemy of the Heart: watch?v=di0GU5R2dDU
Why do people like this ost so much? It really doesn't have particularly catchy themes to me. Nothing special.
Chris jT You should goto Jail for that comment. I regard this as the best piece of C64 music ever compossed.
TotalMK Go listen to Ninja Gaiden and Ninja Gaiden II on NES and understand why this is so much inferior.
Chris jT You want to make comparisons do it with another C64 game, not some NES shit.
TotalMK Ouch, man...ouch!!! Careful what you call shit.
+Chris jT I have played Ninja Gaiden and Shadown Warrior on C64. I know what I'm talking about.
