  • For part 2 we cover the release of the film, its merchandise and its theater records. We cover Jabba's palace, deleted scenes, Dagobah, the fleet gathering up to the arrival on Endor.
    For the pronunciation police, Roy Schieder's name was miss-pronounced Roy Schnieder when we talked about Blue Thunder. Let's see how many people go out of their way to point this out!

    It’s great to see ROTJ see some love. It’s still my favorite of the original trilogy.

      Agreed, I can watch it over and over. The Vader/Luke/Emperor scenes and the assault on the second Death Star are untouchable.

      It’s a pretty good movie until the Ewoks and the poorly-acted Han/Luke/Leia triangle scenes. However, the scenes in the Emporer’s throne room and Luke unmasking Vader are god tier.

      The editing of the three battles at the end is some of the best I've ever seen. The switching between the battle on Endor, the battle in space, and the light sabre duel on the Death Star Mark 2 are simply perfect.

    The thing that I hate about "Jedi Rock" is that it doesn't SOUND alien. It sounds like a typical big-band swing song with some instruments filtered through a synthesizer and the lyrics replaced with baby talk.
    The original actually sounds alien. The instruments are recognizable as woodwinds, but the sounds are just foreign enough to not quite line up with normal expectations for music. The lyrics make use of particular sound combinations that aren't super common in English and therefore sound weird. The structure of the song has a recognizable pattern, but the beat is built around accommodating the sounds of the language, making the music seem like it's not supposed to appeal to English listeners. It has a unique flow to it.
    It just sounds like alien music, but never so alien as to be completely off-putting. The special edition version just sounds like a generic dance number with some arbitrary changes to make it seem alien.

    I was 6 years old, and it was my first ever trip to the cinema: the Odeon in Glasgow. We had to queue round the block. I don't recall complaining: it was amazing to be a part of such a big crowd at the time. I'll never forget it.

I still have 20 binders of complete sets of all the movies from Black Hole, Star Wars, Jaws 2, Superman, Gremlins, Goonies, Topps Widevision SW trilogy, etc. in my living room. I think that's why I keep referring to them in my videos cause if I have the set pertaining to the movie I'm covering I research them over again.

      Well, that's a long shot as they are mostly not worthy since they lack depth and nuance. They especially are not on my slate this year or next but never say never. I might be inclined to do Rogue One maybe Andor, but the rest is just farce in my eyes, and I agree with what you say: fan fiction. I am pondering a series where I rip into sucky films and that might be a good segway to Disney Star Wars but that's down the road a bit.

    In retrospect the Special Editions of the original trilogy was the beginning of the end of my childhood obsession woth Star Wars. The Phantom Menace was the definitive end. Jabba's palace was great in how it implied a thousand surrounding stories, which is the alchemy that makes the original triology so great. Really good video, ROTJ despite its flaws was definitely enough to be satisfying. Love your analysis of Yoda and Obi-Wan's motivation and their flaws.

    Although I am a massive Sci-fi fan, I've never been the biggest Star Wars fan. I do enjoy some of it. Return of the Jedi was my introduction to Star Wars and it is my favourite, it's actually one of my favourite movies. This is a great movie from start to finish. It takes time with the scene, even when there is action it doesn't rush to get to the next set piece. The intrigue of Jabba's palace, the action on the barge, the preparations for the battle, the action on Endor, the battle of the fleets, Luke's personal journey.

    About the plan to save Han, there's a theory that Luke and Leia had two separate plans that both went sideways. Luke was going to try the diplomatic approach and Leia was just going to steal Han back.

    Luke's plan to set Jabba up makes sense when you consider that Jedi can see the future, or possible futures. "Sounds like luck!" "There's no such thing as luck"

  • @chungkingexpress94
    @chungkingexpress94 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I disagree about Luke's attachment not being a weakness in the Empire Strikes Back. Luke does almost destroy everything going to Bespin. In fact, Vader reveals himself and tortures Han AFTER Luke leaves Dagobah because Luke sensed his friends' pain from the future. You could almost argue that if Luke hadn't left Dagobah Vader might have changed his tactic because there might have been no reason to send a force vision to Luke in the past by torturing Han. Luke was not ready to face Vader and when Leia, Lando and everyone else finally escape Cloud City they have to go back to get Luke. Imagine if Vader captured them all there? Yes, at the end of ROTJ Luke is ready to use his compassion and love for his father and friends, but in Empire Yoda and Obi-Wan were right. Only a fully trained Jedi should have gone to face Vader, and ESB is a movie where Luke is essentially fucking up the entire time. Some good things come out of his mistakes, but some bad too. Yoda didn't say it was unfortunate Luke discovered Vader was his father, he said it was unfortunate that he rushed to face Vader and wasn't ready for the burden of that knowledge. In the end it worked out because Vader found himself pleading with Luke to join him in ESB and it's the beginning of his turn back to the good side, but Luke put his friends in danger and didnt even rescue Han, lost his hand, and in the beginning of ROTJ he almost looks like a Sith because he hasn't quite found balance as a Jedi yet.

    Another terrific breakdown, and I learned a lot of details I never knew. I never liked the rescue plan. Even in the theatres I was like, "Luke's a Jedi, just go in there and threaten them so they release Han". Also I felt sorry for the Rancor, even though he was a dangerous pet of Jabba's, in reality he/she? was just another prisoner. Imagine if Luke just freed him and he slaughtered all of Jabba's minions..
    You're so right about Book of Bobba Fett and Kenobi. As a lifelong Star Wars fan, I was horrified and nauseated by both shows. I don't know how fucking Kathleen Kennedy sleeps at night after destroying everything. (Hate leads to the Dark Side, Al, breathe...)

    • @RepresentThis
      @RepresentThis  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I will agree that Star Wars is completely ruined thanks to Dave Filoni and Kathleen Kennedy having control. It's a shame and I am just as frustrated as you as it used to mean a lot to me. I still visit fan channels and I am constantly stunned by Hasbro reveals that are complete garbage and push the Disney product and folks cheer for it. It's such a low standard. However, I bought all the special edition figures and all the prequel stuff so I'm not blind to the irony that someone might have had the same feelings towards my enthusiasm back in the early 2000's. So, I try to silence my opinion on such things to respect those that love it.
      When it comes to specific scenes in films though I will call out bad moments, right, wrong or indifferent regardless how folks feel.
