I think there are a lot of families hoping to "sail around the world" and need info on getting a cat for 200,000 all in or under, so keep the information coming - we need it and dont want to give up our dreams because 200,000 is our budget. Thanks.
EDIT: For those of us with 200,000 all in as a budget, what do you recommend? Is it impossible? Do we need to consider monohulls instead? Do we need to find a better source of income? What is realistic for bluewater cruisers looking for extended cruising time? Is it 300,000 for cats? How about for monohulls? What is the minimum people can expect to get in on? Thanks again.

I'd just focus on Lagoon 380's, Island Spirit 40's, FP Mahe 36's and try to get the newest boat that fits the budget

@@Catamarans What if I would be sailing with my wife and four kids? The 38 and 40-footers seem too small for that many people... Thanks for all the info by the way!

I bought a Leopard 47 in Grenada for $137,500, and it is outstanding. Sailed it to Fort Lauderdale with absolutely no issues. Engines/Generator ran perfectly every time. Everything on the boat is serviceable. When I closed, the instruments were not working, but 30 minutes troubleshooting fixed that and the autopilot worked like a charm all the way from Grenada to Fort Lauderdale. Now, that being said, there is some truth in everything the author said. You can't just turn these jobs over to people charging $135/hour.

@@johnkosowski3321 Wow I’ve been drooling over leopard 46s. Selling our house this time next year should be working with 250 or 300 but I guess I just got a wait a bit longer. Sounds like you got a smoking deal on that 47

@@jackslagle2019 A really good deal on a 46 that needs a bunch of work would be like $250k. Then it might need $100k.

Perhaps the best way to find one under $2-250k is to have a survey done always before buying anything. It’s investment insurance!!!

A Cartouche 95, I think it is 2014...…. going for 6,500,000.00 euros. That translates into $9,440,000.00 Cdn. Going for a catamaran built in Thailand, I could get great quality at half that price and new

Like your stuff, Gary, yet I find that in yacht building, in particular, manufacturers charge MSRP for components rather than cost plus 10 or 15 as in other manufacturing processes. I believe it's called greed in most cases. Not all, yet most and there is no reason for this even though cats are in demand. Of course, this is just my observation. Thank you for all your very helpful info. Keep it coming.

Great content!!! Please consider not walking around during your videos and finding a microphone with a pop filter or muffler for wind. I am new subscriber to your channel and am beginning the search for 40-45 cat in the 3-5 year old range. For newer viewers, you are spot on with your advice against buying a fixer upper. Previously, I experienced exactly as you described with a boat yard quote that I used to finalize a pre-purchase of a vessel. By the time my vessel left the yard, I spent twice my budget and triple what was initially quoted. As a result of my experience and others at that time, the boatyard supervisor was fired for doubling costs of retro/repair of vessels. My advice, buy the best condition vessel at least 20% below your budget so you can afford to do repairs and upgrades without the stress and actually enjoy sailing your vessel. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and with such transparency. Refreshing!!! Keep up the good work.

If cats are so hard to find, can the same be said for new ie 38/40 Lagoon. Is there a good US dealer inventory, and if not, what is the standard lead time to order one ?????

You’re really bursting my bubble here we’re selling the house this time next year and will be working with a $250,000 budget maybe more all depends on the fish returns. On that note anybody want to trade a two year old house in Ketchikan Alaska for a catamaran?😁
