To me it makes a lot of sense. Not only because it's probably a bit more time efficient to only mix each color once, but mostly because it more closely resembles how most artists would probably approach painting eg. adding a shadow to each of the grapes, then adding the highlight to each one etc.
@@francesw.6774 Yeah it was. The episode was about a guy George worked with at the Yankees Stadium. They were at a meeting and George was scarfing down shrimp. When Kit mentioned your gray hair, I thought, "OH, this video is about to become NOT family friendly". This was so fun. It's really fun to see you both interact and joke around with each other. So fun, but still full of interesting painting restoration and details.

This format is really fun! I would love to see more of Kit, it makes the video more lighthearted and it's really interesting to see different approaches to the process of conservation
I used to work at a high-end art framer and really enjoyed it; I tried to find another framing job when I moved countries but never did, and now I’m a translator. I’d probably still be a framer if I’d stayed in the UK!
I've installed purchased paintings into frames many times, and I love doing the offset fasteners and seeing the painting in its final mount, so I was thinking the same thing.
@@francesw.6774 Good for you! I help so many customers whose eyes glaze over when I explain how to mount a canvas in a frame with offset clips (we sell them and it's easy enough to do yourself). It's more business for me so I suppose it's all good, but I really appreciate DIY spirit in people 😅
What I liked most about these episodes is not the restorations, but the playful banter between you both. It can be a tedious world and so to see you both genuinely having fun together while doing serious work is great as it’s not always a side that we see 😊
You say you and Kit are just technicians, not artists, but it reminds me of what they say about editors. "The editor clears away the smoke to let the flame of the idea shine through." That's what you and Kit do for these paintings.

Who not merely held her own but actually surpassed you by delivering a much more detailed work in a truly masterful way. Julian, you've been toppled.
Julian is a winner too. He has earned his reputation as a conservationist and he is doing a great job teaching Kit. The fact that she mentions "little Julian" is the greatest accomplishment for any teacher/mentor.
It's no exaggeration to say this channel has added to the quality of my life immeasurably. The immediate blood pressure drop is one thing, but the way these videos have affected every aspect of my life, down to the expert level care I take in opening an envelope or removing an address label from a magazine is nothing short of astonishing. 🙏

Nice restoration Kit, you are the winner when your work is finished and it’s looks like only one person restored both paintings. Jonathan is the winner for being an excellent instructor, that Kit has become a excellent conservationist 🧡🧡🧡
I remember when Kit was first hired, she seemed kind of shy. Glad to see her come out of her shell, and I hope we see her more going forward. Oh, and negative 27 points to Julian for threatening her job over a point. Yeah, I get it was banter, but still, it was tacky.

It never fails to blow my freaking mind when Julian starts touching up the paintings and the blemishes literally vanish into thin air. The way he's able to mix the perfect color nearly every time, especially when the colors are complex and subtle and changing all at once... truly astonishing.
It boggles me when I can see a flaw, and he apparently just pokes the brush at it a few times with a couple of subtle color shifts and it DISAPPEARS. :D

Kit style of retouching is similar to how I restore old photos on Photoshop. I don't focus on a single area at a time, like Julian. I go all over it it a small thing at a time, doing multiple passes. Cool seeing that.
So cute! I love the way Kit feels comfortable enough to tease like that. But mostly I like the way this all shows that there is more than one approach to success. Again, that Kit feels comfortable making her own choices tells me all that I need to know.
Lovely work! Julian, you must be so proud of Kit's growth and capability! Thank you for providing the space and comfort for her to flourish. I wonder if we'll get more Tiny Julian in the future. 🙂
Interesting how his experience isn’t necessarily giving “better” results, but rather the same results using far more efficient and time saving techniques. When doing this for a living/business, that efficiency is super important.
That was an entertaining way to do what you already do, together and separate. Your techniques might differ but the end results are excellent of course. Kit is funny and obviously loving the work. Well done.
I have been watching your channel now for over two years (I think). Every time I see a new painting come in to be restored, it amazes me in the complete change that you bring to the artwork and how you manage to save the "unsaveable" and bring back the original painting back to life to be enjoyed for many more years - its also about the only time that I sit and listen to classical music and I love it every time. Thank you for your time, your expertise and for sharing this restoration journey with us!
