    I injured myself doing my strength training a couple days ago and just started walking at home. I've lost 88 pounds already doing intermittent fasting and my strength training and can't go back. My back hurts slightly but I know this will help. I appreciate your channel.

    I motivate myself by walking to/from a restaurant. I walk 1.5 miles to a lunch place, eat a healthy 800 calorie meal, then walk home. The walk burns about 300 cal., so it's like a 500 cal. meal but much more satisfying.

      I love that! And I definitely find it helps my digestion if I walk after a meal!

      My son works at a restaurant exactly 6 miles away from my front door. I can start walking at 8PM and by 10PM I'm can be at the restaurant while they're just finishing up. I get my miso soup and hop in my son's car to go home.
      On weekends, I go on trail hikes - backcountry. Very very awesome. I could drive sometimes up to 2 hours to some trailhead, walk for 4 hours (I go 10+ miles) then drive home. It's a very refreshing way to relax. Oh yeah, trail hiking is not at all like neighborhood hiking. It's definitely not boring.

    I walk 6 miles a day to work. I do long distance national trails, I love walking in beautiful scenery, for me I need to be outside, walking in the house would make me claustrophobic but think your method is fabulous for anyone who worries about walking outside, it's safe, warm and dry and a great way to keep fit. Very inspiring!

    • @jayaom4946
      @jayaom4946 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I thought the most interesting part of what she was saying was that she wanted to "excuse-proof" herself. Most of us would enjoy or at least prefer walking outside in the middle of beautiful scenery in comparison to just walking back and forth in the hallway but there are many reasons why someone might not be able to and then they just can't exercise! So she pointed out the value of getting rid of the need to have special equipment or circumstances, she was going to get her steps in no matter what, no excuses, even if it was walking back and forth in the house.

      Yeah when you live in the Midwest it’s hard to always walk outside. I like her idea of not leaving herself room for excuses. I needed to hear this

    The best way to keep me motivated to walk is to walk with someone. I've been walking with my neighbor five miles a day, three days a week for the past two years. I will also walk with my husband anywhere between 2-4 miles a day when he gets home from work. We walk year round, even when it's snowing and in temperatures as cold as negative eleven degrees. We rarely miss a day, and it really makes a difference knowing that my neighbor is waiting for me to meet her in the morning, or hubby and I can enjoy a private conversation outside without our teens interrupting. I typically average around 20-25 miles a week in the winter months and 40-45 miles a week in the summer months. Like she said you just put one foot in front of the other.

    When I was 45 I started walking like 2 miles and every day I increased it then I reached 5 miles a day..I was so motivated to keep going cuz I was losing weigh like crazy..yes I cut out all the junk food .Before I knew it I was walking 5 miles twice a day and running down all the hills..On rainy day Leslie Sanson was great for indoors..and yes you have to walk a little faster than a normal walk..great way to meet you're neighbors..and of course I wasnt working any jobs so it was Alot .. easier.. Really all you have to do is start out one foot in front of the other ..and keep GOING!! OH it only took my one night to get into walking..I fell in love the way it made me feel "AWSOME"

    Thanks for the encouraging words and tips. I am in week six of my OMAD lifestyle and have been walking inside basically since the beginning. I bought a fit bit recently as a reward for losing 15.5 pounds. I will work my way and walk while watching your videos to get my steps in. Walking 6 miles is a huge accomplishment. I am proud of you. I have been doing 10,000 steps 3 times a week and 5,000-8,000 the other days. Your channel was recommended to me by Cal. Tina

    First time ever yesterday I walked my 4 miles BEFORE I left to go out of town for the day. My brother rolled his eyes when I arrived a lil late n I said it was because my walking was most important. I pray while walking outside. I have a treadmill but love outdoors! Unfortunately I live in eastern iowa so when snow comes it'll be treadmill for me! Sometimes I bribe myself with a frozen drink or treat if I go all out but I find the euphoria at end of day when I see 15-20,000 steps is a natural payoff. Losing weight has been a natural encouragement too. Good video. Keep 'em comin! 😁

      I love it! Yep, in 2016 when I decided to truly make my 6 miles a priority, I started doing things like that too. Waking up early and getting them in before we left, or doing them after we arrived somewhere. Where there's a will, there's a way! Thanks for watching!

    Hi Kayla,
    You are such an inspiration 😊
    Thank you SO
    Much for sharing 👍
    I need to shed some unwanted kilos as I need Spinal Fusion very soon and know I will NOT be too active afterwards!!!
    A huge benefit going into surgery fit will help recovery.
    I have been intermittent fasting for about 8 weeks (I started originally last Oct then had a break in March )
    I feel SO much better when Fasting
    It has become a part of me
    I Usually do the 16/8 But here and their it will vary by like an hour either side !
    I have also started walking ea day I have an app that came with my ph !
    So this is brilliant 👌
    It’s AMAZING how much we DO walk Around the home so now going for walks is a bonus (Ortho Surgeon wants me to Be safely as active as I can be )
    I find I will eat at 7-.7.30 pm
    Then next day 1st meal between 11.30-12 then 2nd meal again at 7-7.30
    What I have noticed is now and then I can definitely only need meal !
    As if my fast goes over like it does time to time , say to 1.30 -2pm then
    I am not hungry at dinner
    Just wasn’t sure if this was ok ?
    I am wondering now maybe I can change my windows of fasting To 18/6 ?
    Thanks again for all you information 😍

      @SixMilesToSupper  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much for your kind comments! I'm glad to hear you're finding success with walking and fasting too! I very slowly pushed my window out, so that it always felt effortless. I personally pushed my window out like 30 minutes to an hour at a time, but that was just because that's when I felt ready. Also, check with your doc and make sure they're good with your plan since you're getting this surgery and you don't want to hinder your recovery.

    I do push ups by the hundreds, although I started with only a few. The important part is the intermittent fasting. I believe that one of the benefits of intermittent fasting is that you find more energy and that makes exercising easier and more enjoyable. I started my intermittent fasting at age 52, 10 years ago. Lost 60 lbs by age 56. So age is not an impediment.

      That is awesome! Thank you for sharing how you had success, and for sharing your age as well. A lot of people ask me if intermittent fasting will help someone over the age of 50. I'm happy to point them to stories like yours! I agree, intermittent fasting gives me energy too.

    I also get my miles in at home. I walk in the house. Our house is big and open plan. I literally walk or run laps. My husband has a 90 minute commute and whilst he’s driving I’m walking chatting to him on the phone. I also have a stepper which I use at least 20 minutes at a time, three times a day. I have a mini trampoline and I bounce to music. Easy way to get good steps in that way too. Fun a varied and as you said, break it up over your day.

    Thank you for the great tips. Sorry if you've answered this elsewhere, but do you simply keep track on your pedometer & make sure that by the end of the day your total distance, after all of your daily activity, equals 6 miles? How many steps does that equal for you, about 12,ooo?
    Another fun & healthy way to get in some steps is to jump or jog on a mini trampoline. I try to do that a few times throughout the day to get my lymph & blood circulating. Even just a few minutes, like 3-5, can be very invigorating. I mix it up with some light bouncing & jogging while I watch tv. They're pretty affordable & can be tucked away under a bed.

    • @SixMilesToSupper
      @SixMilesToSupper  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Katarina, it's about 14,000 steps according to my Fitbit. And yes, the 6 miles includes my daily activity. Thanks for sharing about the mini trampoline, it sounds fun. Jumping on a trampoline was one of my things to do when I was a kid.

    Hi Kayla. I found your TH-cam site from your vids on walking 6 miles a day.
    Been doing IF for almost 20 years now. Started IF after getting back from thruhikes of 2000 mile distance or more that lasted 4 to 5 months. Used IF to get my eating back on schedule. I would lose 1 pound a day for the first month and 1/2 pound for the second month while hiking. Burning 6000 calories a day, eating 2500 per day. 3500 calories defecate equaling one pound. After that I was burning muscle, fat brain cells, etc. Just thought you would find this interesting. Hanging tough. Peace and Love.

      My current plan is walk 6 miles 6 days a week (I take Sundays off both from fasting and from a step goal). I do OMAD most days most weeks, though there are some days I do 2MAD. My weight goal is simply to maintain in the 140s. If for any reason my weight creeps to 150 or above, I go back to my old reliable plan of OMAD 6 days a week, and keep my walking goals the same.
