The fact that three different people across the world were fiercely and unknowingly racing to document an obscure McDonald’s training game for the DS at the same time is almost like a minor miracle. How tf does that even happen. It’s SO specific

About dirty teriyaki: McDonald's don't actually wipe/wash their hands after handling the raw patties. They all wear gloves. Two different gloves are provided for raw food and prep. The dirty teriyaki was simply a forgotten step in the game alone.

That makes sense. I knew there wasn't a reason that washing your hands would be bad. I believed it was simply unnecessary for the teriyaki.
Here at McDonald's Netherlands we don't wear gloves and we don't wash our hands basically ever after handling anything except when we touch the ground, something that has been on the ground or our body. We only wash our hands when we feel they're dirty from the oil or sauces from assembling/dressing and when we return from a break/toilet. And yes, that is also a thing during the pandemic. Maybe that's why our numbers aren't falling..

The "Spooky" image, is background assets from Metroid Fusion, specifically the very first room. _Absolutely_ no idea why this would be inside this rom, especially seeing as it's from a *GBA* game, rather than DS.

Perhaps this means the developer of the mcdonalds game was Intelligent Systems - worked on metroid, located in japan, and works closely with nintendo.

15:40 The teriyaki patties don't require hand-washing because they are already cooked, but refrigerated. I worked in a fast food chain that sold chicken sandwiches, including teriyaki, and all the 4 variants of chicken patties were already cooked upon shipment, you just need to reheat them on the grill. This is because, ironically enough, chicken is very dangerous to handle raw, moreso than any other type of meat, so they cook them before shipment, unlike the beef patties, which aren't AS dangerous to handle raw.

The Laval thing is interesting, I worked at a Canadian McDonald’s about a year ago and the methods taught in the game are incredibly similar to the actual stuff we did in the restaurant, so the idea they might have ported the game to English and French makes sense to me
Also my theory on the teriyaki is that it was pre cooked so you had no risk of contamination from one food to another, the reason I think this is due to the fact that we didn’t need to wear gloves when handling sausage while I worked there, du to the fact that it was pre cooked

15:52 isn't showing somebody washing their hands, they're cleaning the top of the burger off the teflon that comes down. The 10:1 and 4:1 patties have a tendency to stick to the top after it goes back up, so you're supposed to clean it off. Maybe the teriyaki pattie doesn't stick.

Hey I'm like 80% sure that the alien looking pixel art you mentioned (at 33:15) in this vid is showing the space ship docking bay from Metroid Fusion. There is a scene specifically where the hangar is open; it kinda looks like that. I looked at some images of the Fusion hangar and noticed some details were different, but it still looks very similar. I suggest you take a look at that

Theory:
Montréal is the world's fifth-largest video game centre, after Tokyo, London, San Francisco, and Austin. Laval is right next to Montréal. eSMART 2.0 was in development in Montréal and used Laval's McDonalds as beta testers but the project was eventually cancelled.

Regarding Laval, Quebec. I’ve heard that a lot of McDonalds “tests” are done in Quebec. Weird store layouts for example. I don’t think this is unknown so the person commenting could just be lying based on that knowledge, but it gives it some credibility.
Yeah, Kingston Ontario was a similar "test market" for McDs in the late 90s early 2000s. Im not sure if it is anymore. It had to do with demographic makeup. I can remember locations having an odd menu item like bbq junior chicken or ranch quarter pounder every so often

Today I nearly watched nearly 3h worth of eDCP content and now I’m about to go to MCDS. What a nice day.
I'm assuming the "alien landscape" image is probably a piece of art from another game the developer was working on. Sometimes devs use assets from other projects early on in the creation of a game so they can test the engine. I wonder if that asset was actually used somewhere. If so, it may give a good clue to the original maker of this.

at 33:34 that's the docking bay from metroid fusion! it's severely miscolored (it should be gray and white) and cut in half with the right side seemingly being replaced with a different sprite layer of the left, but that's definitely the docking bay!
edit: I should mention that no color scheme you tried matched it because metroid fusion is a game boy advance game, and that the docking bay in question was actually very much human in design. trust me, it looks a lot better properly rendered.

It definitely is, I've played the game many, many times. It might be an in development version and not the final artwork if it's not an exact match. The right half is the lighting layer that creates the glow effect during gameplay.
The upper part is straight up ice cubes in soda in a weird colour palette.
Why the docking area is on the cartridge is weird, but probably just leftover data if they reused something.

I gotta say that "alien landscape" looks a whole lot like an unfinished texture for some ice cubes floating in a liquid, either soda or water, and the one below it was probably a generic placeholder.

Why is this so unsettling
The alien landscape file looks like it might be a multichannel reference for other content. Saving auxiliary data in RGB channels is super common for post processing, especially in cases when you want to save space. It's quite likely the "spaceship interior" is actually scaled and rotated snippets that would've been stitched for the machine layouts in the cut store builder. The blocky space looks like ice cubes in soda to me. Call me crazy, but it might be a negative image also. Devs take weird shortcuts and preprocess certain steps to save on code and memory in embedded software. Try color inverting it and see if it looks any more sensible.

I know several art music composers who have had their music performed internationally. If you look at the small text, you find out it was performed once or twice in the US, though one had his music performed in France.
As such, you are a McD eDCP speed running legend. The small text is that you put fries in baskets a lot and recorded it.
As long as you remember the small text, don't feel bad about the title. You are the one who put in the small amount of effort that was actually needed to get recognized as such. It's surprising how little you need for some titles.

I didn't want to come off as baby, but yeah that alien landscape incites dread. I think it was supposed to be the background for like some boss level where you fight off an alien invasion through McDonalds food prep mastery. That would be the landscape outside of the mirrored ship interior
The reason the don’t wash there hands is The teriyaki burger were pre-sauced before placing them on the grill, so the employees would never touch them by hand, only with tongs.

It was tested in more than one location in Canada, however, it was only run within a timeframe of a week from what I remember hearing about it. I remember seeing it on my local news channel about 4 years ago.

Something I remember seeing exactly one and never again at a McDonalds in Metairie, Louisiana is a fully functional Wii set up similarly to those Gamecube/PS2 stations that were pretty common back in the day.
Now, It's possible I'm misremembering it (It could have just been Cooking Mama or something) but I distinctly remember there being a Mcdonalds-branded cooking game with motion-controlled burger flipping and boxing that was set up there. Idk if there are any further leads on that, or if my mind is just playing tricks on me, but I swear the memory is so clear to me.

@Rixor12 - you mentioned a Wii set up. This jogged my memory. I remember seeing a nintendo wii controller branded with McDonalds logo on it. I am from the philly area (surrounding suburbs) so a completely different part of the US... do you remember a black wii remote with a McDonalds M on it in grey, about where the Wii logo should be on the controller? This sticks out in my mind, and I did used to frequent McDonalds a lot during the time all of the events with the DS and the eCDP transpired.

hey Nick, this is probably stupid but the music you used for the "laval, Quebec" entry came from The Legend of Zelda: Four swords adventures. and it's my favorite in game in the series and it's rarely talked about and I just have to thank you, I'm glad parts of this game still appear today

I live closer, a 15 minute drive and I don't think that's to crazy of an idea considering how small Laval is... and that there only 13 Mcdonalds in Laval. I'd be totally down but, we still have to hope that, that ONE Mcdonald's "first last" mentioned has an employee that used to work there at the time and still does... or at least maybe knows someone who used too

Okay I really need you to read this; I live in Ontario Canada (born and raised), and I swear to god I've seen/heard of a Canadian McDonald's DS game. Maybe this is some weird Mandela effect, or maybe this video really did unlock a hidden memory in the back of my mind. Either way I had a massive wave of deja vu when you mentioned Laval Quebec. I just have this memory of CBC (the Canadian Broadcasting Channel) reporting on a DS McDonald's game for training staff, and how it was "used in Japan as well" (or something along those lines), and I remembered my dad being mildly perturbed by this, probably because of his fear of modern technology. I think I was intrigued though, at least enough to have this memory still (if it's not a false one). I was probably 9 or 10 at the time, making the date somewhere around 2008/2009.

I've been clicking on movie myths and legends, mysteries, unsolved crimes, lost media and other sp00ky icebergs.
Never in my life did I think I'd spend 35 minutes watching a video on a McDonald's Nintendo DS cartridge.

I had completely forgotten about it, hearing Qoo just gave me a huge nostalgia hit.
Edit: Did a quick Google to confirm, this isn't a Mandela effect thing I found a post from a German website from 2003 listing what foods would be available at a local event, qoo was one of em.
