Thankyou for making this video. I have a TF101 that I will try upgrading :-) Nice to be able to follow exactly on a video. Right now I am not able to download any Playstore apps from or do much of anything on my old Asus. This is after a factory reset. No TH-cam. I thought I could use as a digital photo frame or music player but the apps do not install. I am hoping this upgrade will make my device useable.

Or that could work but would suck recourses not needed and Google want to get rid of the old devices on their eco system so knife cuts on both sides - we learn to be independent and Google does not have to deal with all security issues these old systems could bring to their network 😊👍

Great video, but i'm having a problem, when rebooting and trying to boot into recovery, (vol rocker down and power button)i do not get the recovery options, i just have the android laying on its back with a red ! above its chest and have to hold power in order to reboot back to the platform. Tablet says it rooted successfully, SuperUser is installed but it doesn't look like CWM installed. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

How did you flashed the Rogue XM Recovery (or the TWRP)? I have a TF101 that boots, but the old android does note support a lot of things. When I try to boot into recovery mode, it gives me a Android "dead" with red triangle with the "!". O rooted the device following your tutorial, but I cant boot on recovery mode. HELP ME PLEASE!!

Hoi, heb inmiddels op een oude laptop Win 7 geïnstalleerd en ben nu een paar stapjes verder gekomen. Kom nu wel in APX mode en kan de Recovery opstarten. Het installeren van de eerste 2 Winzip-files gaat ook goed maar dan loopt de Tab vast. Wat is jou advies ? Ben een 66 plusser dus heb wel enige hulp nodig.

No you cannot - it will be a matter for f getting the pc to boot gParted so you can partition the drive and then boot Android X86 and pray all hardware will be found such as sound WiFi touch - also learn how to restore back if it fails so you don’t start hating me for the idea 😊

(Para los que quieran realizar este método en la actualidad o tengan el error del Android con signo de exclamación) Hola, a todos los que quieran realizar este método en la actualidad NO LO INTENTEN, por lo general este método te va a eliminar el recovery al tratar de rootear el dispositivo, si es que ya hiciste este método y te salió el android con signo de exclamación tienes que descargar "easyflasher 0.8.3b," luego deberás descargar "Universal Naked Driver 0.72" y lo extraes, luego conecta la tableta a la PC en modo APX (este se consigue apagando la tableta y presionando el botón volúmen arriba y encendido), ya conectada te diriges a "administrador de dispositivos" en la pc y seleccionas la tableta con el nombre "APX" y un signo de exclamación, haces click en "acción" en la parte superior, luego en "Agregar hardware heredado" seleccionas la carpeta del controlador e instalas, (((Antes de todo esto es necesario habilitar la opción de Windows para instalar Drivers no firmados))), ya con esto hecho iniciamos easyflasher, yo seleccioné "SBK1", luego en la pestaña de recovery seleccionas "TWRP 2.2.1" y le das click en "Flash", esperas unos momentos y listo, hemos instalado" TWRP", ahora puede proseguir con el tutorial, todo con tranquilidad y paciencia.
Like a whole load of other people all I get with this is the little green android, flat on his back with his guts open and an exclamation mark. This system is obviously searching for a kernel recovery image which it cannot locate hence the error symbol. The video is very confusing and the steps are not explained very well. It would be more helpful if, when making "how to" videos, the common errors experienced by users were investigated and an explanation and/or solution offered. The only reason I wanted to upgrade the android version on this tablet was so that I could download the BBC Sounds app and stream music to my sound system. Therefore, whilst it is not the end of the world, it is annoying and frustrating to spend hours downloading software and following the steps shown in the video to find that it does not work. If Channel48 or anybody else comes up with a solution to this issue please post here so that the upgrade claimed to be possible can actually be achieved.

The solution to android on the back are APX drivers when using EasyFlasher. You need to get into APX mode like he has shown, and when you are in APX with cable connected to the PC you will see in device manager that the windows does not have the APX drivers. You then have to download Universal Naked Driver 0.72 i think, and disable windows forced driver signature enforcement, to update the driver (without that Windows wont let you do it.) after you update your APX drivers the recovery flash will actually work, and you can continue with the tutorial. I hope this was helpfull.
Hi! Do you have any videos on bypassing the Total Factory Reset setting that keeps another owner from entering his or her Google or email information after the tablet has been factory reset? I did a factory reset on mine and then now I cannot log in to any of my google services once I go to re set up the tablet.

Dude, I'm not able to root my tablet until I install the super user app but not the recovery, it only works on that Android lying down and what's more, I think the super user app isn't even the same as yours and more I have a question about the TWRP app, did you download it? because mine didn't install And if it was difficult for others, imagine for me that I'm from Brazil and I don't know English and I'm watching your video with TH-cam's automatic subtitles, which are very wrong

And the tf300t where is a update custom Rom available but device does not turn on it think the battery or something on the board is preventing it from powering on. Ido try from time to time am not giving up.It's hard to get parts here in Grenada where i live.I upgraded my t280 to the latest build from mone and device works fine and stable you must check out the thread on xda when you get chance.I also installed the light Rom on my tab 4 sm-t230 and happy the Rom is fast and debloated works nice.
No bro you need files for 300t model and tou need windows xp pc for rhe old drivers - would sell it bro and get second hand Samsung T800 or any of the better tabs Samsung Tab s2 or S3 they are cheap dont waist time with this in 2024 use it for mp3 and Video mp4 watching

I had recently come into possession of this tablet from a person who no longer wanted it. It did not come with the keyboard attachment. Will I have to purchase the attachment or is there a way to perform this upgrade without it?
You shouldn't need the keyboard attachment (I have managed to connect mine without it), the transformer has a connection for the usb cable needed. (Is the same port that the keyboard connects to - so you need the specific cable)

@ 8:32 I am not getting the recovery, just the android logo with a '!' in a triangle. Have I missed a step to transfer this over? Don't seem to have the folder root+ recovery tf101 that you have in the video either.

adam i also did it for the first time and what you see in the video is what it is - make sure that you have the asus software and drivers asus usb drivers etc
@@channel48 They were in the download you linked to, installed Asus Sync fine, rooted the device seems okay, but there is no recovery on it and yours boots to CWM, did you not put that on yourself?

The recowery mode does not works. I do the "hold Power + VOL DOWN" and get the white letters saying press VOL UP to enter RCK. Then I get the ANdroid with the Giant Exclamation Point.Please help.

Thanks for the video. I'm stuck at the start, because I think my cable is bad. I was able to connect it to my PC once, but the rest of the time it shows up as "Unknown Device" in Device Manager. I might try to order a new cable and see if that fixes it, so hopefully later I can try your upgrade. Do you know if any other operating systems work well on the TF101 or is Android 6.01 the best bet?
The new cable I ordered arrived and I was able to follow your steps and Vitaly's steps and I'm now running Android 6.01 just like you. I still have to figure out how to install apps next and I'm having an issue where my keyboard dock won't charge. Thanks for all your help.

Ugh That’s kind a hard my friend maybe turn off the tablet hold volume up or down and then push in the cable I don’t know how to sing to go into into recovery mode but use the procedure without the power button
HELP! I did everything and that "old" android (I think 4.1.2 or so) worked. Then - when I wanted to upgrade it to 6.0 and selected "reboot in recovery mode" - didn't want to reboot anymore, not in the recovery mode, and not in the system. :( Now it keeps rebooting and freezing in the start screen.
In the meantime, I switched it back to twrp 2.6 (and android 4.1.2 is working, recovery mode also), I would like to upgrade it at least to KitKat 4.4.4 but that's not the biggest problem anymore - now it won't charge! xD Do you maybe know how to fix it? Cable and charger are ok, when I connect it, tablet turns on, but won't charge. I tried to separate the tablet and the dock, but it is the same. I tried to connect it to computer (as it were during the reinstallation process) - and it is recognized, and everything works well, but still won't charge. Sorry I'm bothering you!
unfortunately after getting it rooted it show the superuiser icon in the menu but when trying to enter recovery mode after pushing the volume up button android image appears and loading bar, after few seconds it show the same icon but with a red warning sign then it just stops loading anything and I have to reset :/ It wont work past that.
Hi Channel48, I really like the video and i have followed the link to download the asus sync, however when i plug the usb in my laptop (windows 11) and in to the keyboard to the asus eeepad it dose not recognizes the connection, I have had a look in device manager but i cant seem to find the pad. Any idea where i am going wrong?
@@channel48 Actually with installing asus sync and root package there wasn't installed any twrp or clockwork.. when rebooting into recovery mode tablet is stacking
@@channel48 Followed only yours procedure and used urs apps, and twrp didn't appeared, then downloaded and installed another twrp 2.6, it appears but it's not starting.. don't know if now do factory reset and start all over or uninstall twrp..

Aqui também dava o android "morto" na hora de fazer o recovery. porque a pasta com o arquivo recovery não está no download. mas segui pelo vídeo e busquei ela no XDA do sparkym3 e baixei. e para dar certo tive que salvar na raiz do armazenamento interno e no cartão micro SD. Agora vou buscar uma ROM android atual. (Thank you very much, great video, it worked on my TF101 on 01/05/2022. Here also gave the android "dead" at the time of recovery. because the folder with the recovery file is not in the download. but I followed the video and looked for it on XDA sparkym3 and downloaded. and to work I had to save to the root of the internal storage and the micro SD card. Now I'm going to get a current android ROM.)

Ok do just a clean install first of Katkiss and when booted up go with your pc to google type auroraoss and download 4.4 type Firefox for android 6 and go apk mirror download it - I will make a nice usable rom soon
I try win 7, didn't work. The belly up Droid with exclamation mark still there. ;(. Tf101 is rooted (root checker) but haven't been able to install twrp. I've read hours but nothing. I can't access the recovery mode after i follow the last steps of your guide using your files. I successfully installed the ROM of the archive "cm-10-20130929-NIGHTLY-tf101" and reboot and i could used the new ROM "Cyanogenmod"; then i reboot again in the mode "recovery" and sucessfully i could enter in the recovery mode in the TWRP 2.6.0 app ---> then i install the TWRP 2.8.1.1 and sucessfully install it, but when i reboot it... Vuala! BOOT LOOP!!! Actually i can enter via Hard Boot and using a command to quit the boot loop of the Cyanogenmod, but i can't use the recovery mode or bootloader mode (because if i did that, the system was again in a boot loop) nor use the APX mode... Any Help? I really like to change the ROM...
I have this TF101, main issue is I am able to connect to Wifi, but browser can't surf and youtube doesn't work, however google map works? Anyway, trying to update this thing and when I check "USB debugging", I don't see it connected. I am assuming the power cable connected my PC is the right one correct?

Zou ik nog een oude app store erop kunnen zetten, zodat ik 'm aan een kind kan geven. Accu werkt nog goed en loopt niet snel leeg. Buiten de software om, dus nog een prima werking. Alleen moeilijk om apps te vinden/installeren...
@@bobbouer3961 je hebt XP nodig om deze tablet to updaten - oude appstore heeft apps die niet meer bestaan - je kunt wr een muziek speler of mp4 speler van kunnen maken offline gebruiken want omline is het een gevaar voor uw netwerk -

@@channel48 @channel48 I watched the video really carefully step by step and read the comments. And everything was the same as yours. As I said untill the rebooting part. But when the Superuser file is uploaded there is no recovery file seen therefore rebooting is not successful :/

what happens if you turn off tab then hold volume down press power and when you see llogi let go of power and vol down and press vol up - do you get into recovery mode ?

hello again @channel48 I'm following your instructions and was able to successfully pass the rooting procedure (I see the superuser app with a pirate android icon installed ). Then I try to call the recovery mode and I get an android picture with a big exclamation mark in the middle. In the video you said that we already have the CWM mode but it's not clear where it comes from. I went through the bat file which does the rooting and don't see anything about cwm in there. The devices is Asus TF 101 looks exactly the same as yours and the Android version is 4.0.3. Build number is IML74K.WW_epad-9.2.1.24-20120503. Kernel version 2.6.39.4 android@Mercury #1. I don;t have TWRP nor CWM apps installed on my device, it was completely factory resetted. I stuck please help! Thank you!
@@channel48 Thanks for your reply. Actually I follow everything you said in the video and I use the same combination ov key to access the CWM mode but I get no recovery mode. Currently I have no twrp nor CWM apps installed on my tablet. The tablet was factory resetted and has just th e basic set of apps and there's no way to install any app cuz Android 4.0.3 (the ver Im running) was deprecated a long time ago. Basically it doesn't support TLSv1, TLSv2. So I stuck, need help here. I could even give you the img of the screen I get when I (power up keeping the volume down and then after logo volume up). Hope you or someone else here will be able to help or assist. Thanks again.

It will 100 💯 % but no playstore but aurora store and no payments just music video etc I will make a nice modeled Rom for this old mama

Great video, but i'm having a problem, when rebooting and trying to boot into recovery, (vol rocker down and power button)i do not get the recovery options, i just have the android laying on its back with a red ! above its chest and have to hold power in order to reboot back to the platform. Tablet says it rooted successfully, SuperUser is installed but it doesn't look like CWM installed. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thanks

No you cannot - it will be a matter for f getting the pc to boot gParted so you can partition the drive and then boot Android X86 and pray all hardware will be found such as sound WiFi touch - also learn how to restore back if it fails so you don’t start hating me for the idea 😊

Hola, a todos los que quieran realizar este método en la actualidad NO LO INTENTEN, por lo general este método te va a eliminar el recovery al tratar de rootear el dispositivo, si es que ya hiciste este método y te salió el android con signo de exclamación tienes que descargar "easyflasher 0.8.3b," luego deberás descargar "Universal Naked Driver 0.72" y lo extraes, luego conecta la tableta a la PC en modo APX (este se consigue apagando la tableta y presionando el botón volúmen arriba y encendido), ya conectada te diriges a "administrador de dispositivos" en la pc y seleccionas la tableta con el nombre "APX" y un signo de exclamación, haces click en "acción" en la parte superior, luego en "Agregar hardware heredado" seleccionas la carpeta del controlador e instalas, (((Antes de todo esto es necesario habilitar la opción de Windows para instalar Drivers no firmados))), ya con esto hecho iniciamos easyflasher, yo seleccioné "SBK1", luego en la pestaña de recovery seleccionas "TWRP 2.2.1" y le das click en "Flash", esperas unos momentos y listo, hemos instalado" TWRP", ahora puede proseguir con el tutorial, todo con tranquilidad y paciencia.

Like a whole load of other people all I get with this is the little green android, flat on his back with his guts open and an exclamation mark. This system is obviously searching for a kernel recovery image which it cannot locate hence the error symbol. The video is very confusing and the steps are not explained very well.
It would be more helpful if, when making "how to" videos, the common errors experienced by users were investigated and an explanation and/or solution offered.
The only reason I wanted to upgrade the android version on this tablet was so that I could download the BBC Sounds app and stream music to my sound system. Therefore, whilst it is not the end of the world, it is annoying and frustrating to spend hours downloading software and following the steps shown in the video to find that it does not work.
If Channel48 or anybody else comes up with a solution to this issue please post here so that the upgrade claimed to be possible can actually be achieved.

The solution to android on the back are APX drivers when using EasyFlasher. You need to get into APX mode like he has shown, and when you are in APX with cable connected to the PC you will see in device manager that the windows does not have the APX drivers. You then have to download Universal Naked Driver 0.72 i think, and disable windows forced driver signature enforcement, to update the driver (without that Windows wont let you do it.) after you update your APX drivers the recovery flash will actually work, and you can continue with the tutorial. I hope this was helpfull.

Dude, I'm not able to root my tablet until I install the super user app but not the recovery, it only works on that Android lying down and what's more, I think the super user app isn't even the same as yours and more I have a question about the TWRP app, did you download it? because mine didn't install

And the tf300t where is a update custom Rom available but device does not turn on it think the battery or something on the board is preventing it from powering on. Ido try from time to time am not giving up.It's hard to get parts here in Grenada where i live.I upgraded my t280 to the latest build from mone and device works fine and stable you must check out the thread on xda when you get chance.I also installed the light Rom on my tab 4 sm-t230 and happy the Rom is fast and debloated works nice.

I had recently come into possession of this tablet from a person who no longer wanted it. It did not come with the keyboard attachment. Will I have to purchase the attachment or is there a way to perform this upgrade without it?

You shouldn't need the keyboard attachment (I have managed to connect mine without it), the transformer has a connection for the usb cable needed. (Is the same port that the keyboard connects to - so you need the specific cable)
You probably need same cable as Galaxy Tab 2 to do so.

@@channel48 They were in the download you linked to, installed Asus Sync fine, rooted the device seems okay, but there is no recovery on it and yours boots to CWM, did you not put that on yourself?

Thanks for the video. I'm stuck at the start, because I think my cable is bad. I was able to connect it to my PC once, but the rest of the time it shows up as "Unknown Device" in Device Manager. I might try to order a new cable and see if that fixes it, so hopefully later I can try your upgrade.

Ugh That’s kind a hard my friend maybe turn off the tablet hold volume up or down and then push in the cable I don’t know how to sing to go into into recovery mode but use the procedure without the power button
HELP! I did everything and that "old" android (I think 4.1.2 or so) worked. Then - when I wanted to upgrade it to 6.0 and selected "reboot in recovery mode" - didn't want to reboot anymore, not in the recovery mode, and not in the system. :( Now it keeps rebooting and freezing in the start screen.
In the meantime, I switched it back to twrp 2.6 (and android 4.1.2 is working, recovery mode also), I would like to upgrade it at least to KitKat 4.4.4 but that's not the biggest problem anymore - now it won't charge! xD Do you maybe know how to fix it? Cable and charger are ok, when I connect it, tablet turns on, but won't charge. I tried to separate the tablet and the dock, but it is the same. I tried to connect it to computer (as it were during the reinstallation process) - and it is recognized, and everything works well, but still won't charge. Sorry I'm bothering you!

unfortunately after getting it rooted it show the superuiser icon in the menu but when trying to enter recovery mode after pushing the volume up button android image appears and loading bar, after few seconds it show the same icon but with a red warning sign then it just stops loading anything and I have to reset :/ It wont work past that.

@@channel48 Followed only yours procedure and used urs apps, and twrp didn't appeared, then downloaded and installed another twrp 2.6, it appears but it's not starting.. don't know if now do factory reset and start all over or uninstall twrp..

Aqui também dava o android "morto" na hora de fazer o recovery. porque a pasta com o arquivo recovery não está no download. mas segui pelo vídeo e busquei ela no XDA do sparkym3 e baixei. e para dar certo tive que salvar na raiz do armazenamento interno e no cartão micro SD. Agora vou buscar uma ROM android atual. (Thank you very much, great video, it worked on my TF101 on 01/05/2022. Here also gave the android "dead" at the time of recovery. because the folder with the recovery file is not in the download. but I followed the video and looked for it on XDA sparkym3 and downloaded. and to work I had to save to the root of the internal storage and the micro SD card. Now I'm going to get a current android ROM.)

Ok do just a clean install first of Katkiss and when booted up go with your pc to google type auroraoss and download 4.4 type Firefox for android 6 and go apk mirror download it - I will make a nice usable rom soon

I can't access the recovery mode after i follow the last steps of your guide using your files. I successfully installed the ROM of the archive "cm-10-20130929-NIGHTLY-tf101" and reboot and i could used the new ROM "Cyanogenmod"; then i reboot again in the mode "recovery" and sucessfully i could enter in the recovery mode in the TWRP 2.6.0 app ---> then i install the TWRP 2.8.1.1 and sucessfully install it, but when i reboot it... Vuala! BOOT LOOP!!!
Actually i can enter via Hard Boot and using a command to quit the boot loop of the Cyanogenmod, but i can't use the recovery mode or bootloader mode (because if i did that, the system was again in a boot loop) nor use the APX mode... Any Help? I really like to change the ROM...

I have this TF101, main issue is I am able to connect to Wifi, but browser can't surf and youtube doesn't work, however google map works? Anyway, trying to update this thing and when I check "USB debugging", I don't see it connected. I am assuming the power cable connected my PC is the right one correct?

Zou ik nog een oude app store erop kunnen zetten, zodat ik 'm aan een kind kan geven. Accu werkt nog goed en loopt niet snel leeg. Buiten de software om, dus nog een prima werking. Alleen moeilijk om apps te vinden/installeren...
@@bobbouer3961 je hebt XP nodig om deze tablet to updaten - oude appstore heeft apps die niet meer bestaan - je kunt wr een muziek speler of mp4 speler van kunnen maken offline gebruiken want omline is het een gevaar voor uw netwerk -
@@channel48 een pc met XP heb ik wel, maar zal ik dan niet ook met het probleem zitten dat mijn tablet niet herkend wordt? Ik kan inderdaad een paar offline apps (spelletjes voor kinderen) erop zetten. Dan heb ik er nog wat aan :)

@@channel48 @channel48 I watched the video really carefully step by step and read the comments. And everything was the same as yours. As I said untill the rebooting part. But when the Superuser file is uploaded there is no recovery file seen therefore rebooting is not successful :/
You must let the thing do it’s thing it will reboot the tablet 3 times

your on windows 11 ? or 10 to do this you need windows xp or 7 and its not a troyan win 11 thinks every root and jailbreaknis a trojan

what happens if you turn off tab then hold volume down press power and when you see llogi let go of power and vol down and press vol up - do you get into recovery mode ?

hello again @channel48 I'm following your instructions and was able to successfully pass the rooting procedure (I see the superuser app with a pirate android icon installed ). Then I try to call the recovery mode and I get an android picture with a big exclamation mark in the middle.
In the video you said that we already have the CWM mode but it's not clear where it comes from. I went through the bat file which does the rooting and don't see anything about cwm in there. The devices is Asus TF 101 looks exactly the same as yours and the Android version is 4.0.3. Build number is IML74K.WW_epad-9.2.1.24-20120503. Kernel version 2.6.39.4 android@Mercury #1. I don;t have TWRP nor CWM apps installed on my device, it was completely factory resetted. I stuck please help! Thank you!
You do if you rooted you have cwm just get the right way into recovery bro
@@channel48 Thanks for your reply. Actually I follow everything you said in the video and I use the same combination ov key to access the CWM mode but I get no recovery mode. Currently I have no twrp nor CWM apps installed on my tablet. The tablet was factory resetted and has just th e basic set of apps and there's no way to install any app cuz Android 4.0.3 (the ver Im running) was deprecated a long time ago. Basically it doesn't support TLSv1, TLSv2. So I stuck, need help here. I could even give you the img of the screen I get when I (power up keeping the volume down and then after logo volume up). Hope you or someone else here will be able to help or assist. Thanks again.
