After watching this video and finding a name for this problem "Ghost Touch", I contacted my Mazda dealer, and they wanted to replace the head unit at a cost of 1700. The dealer was not even aware of the lens replacement option. They got back to me with a price of 700 to replace the lens. So I used the part number I found in your video, ordered it on line for $200. My husband disconnected the battery and I disassembled the dash, pulled out the head unit and replaced the lens, installed the head unit, and my husband connected the battery, and for the last 2000 miles, no random changes of the radio stations, changing of my destination, nor random phone calls. This old grandma is very happy she found your inspiring video.
Works perfectly now 👌 2017 Mazda 6. Thank you!!! I was looking everywhere for an in-depth video with TSBs, a parts list, or diagnostics. (I work at Toyota) I found nothing that gave me peace of mind going into this. I am so elated that I came across your video 2 years into dealing with this issue. I tried getting a kit from a Mazda dealer an hour away..luckily, I was off put by the price of the kit because it would've been the wrong kit. Your list, not even two minutes into your video, showed the original part#, but I found a superseded part# on eBay. Repairs took just under 2 hours!! Please give yourself a pat on the back, sir!
My wife’s CX-5 just started doing this a few weeks ago. Good news: at least for the CX-5 they are now offering the touchscreen with a new bezel already attached, so no having to mess around cutting the old bezel away from the defective screen and re-gluing it to the new screen. The CX-5 model is currently about $31 on Amazon.
just did this on a 2017! Keep in mind if you have a 2017 6 GT the push button start is a part of the horizontal trim piece removed after opening the glove box. It will by default pull off the trim that covers your gauges(driver side above the steering column) don't panic like I did for a second!!! You got this!!!!!!! It goes back on with a little gentle convincing (try sitting on the drivers side to reattach)....you will have to disconnect that wire last and put it back on first. 2017 is slightly different. a couple of more screws and the screen did not pop open so easily. Happy with the result though! Thank you so much for the video. you saved me like $600 in labor costs for 40 minute job!!
Honestly, that was the most detailed video I've seen on this subject. The only question I had was if you disconnect the battery, what else in the car has to be reset and if you have to reset anything, do you need a Mazda code? On a Honda, you'd need the code.
Thank you for the detailed walkthrough. I just finished replacing the display lens on my 2017 Mazda3 and your tutorial laid things out perfectly. The only thing I noticed was that on my old screen there was a rectangular plastic gasket between the lens and the display. Not sure if it should have been placed behind the new display lens but so far my display seems fine w/o it.
Thank you for the posting. This should be a recall because it does create a safety issue. A driver trying to use the navagation when the ghost touch pops up can get distracted and can get into an accident. I'm a little peeved that Mazda knows that this display is defective, yet we...the customer...are the unpaid quality control engineers. Actually take that back...we...the customer....are out $279.00 to fix it ourselves.
If you don't care about the touch screen which isn't used much then u can just unplug the ribbon cable. My 17 mazda 6 was ghost touching but looked perfect. I just unplugged the ribbon cable and it's 💯 % fixed!!! Free of charge!!!
Yes this worked on my 2017 6. You only need to unplug the large ribbon cable in the bottom center of the board that you can see with the metal bracket still screwed on. Use a small plastic pry tool to lift the locking tab and remove the ribbon cable. If you do take the metal bracket off to expose the full board, you'll see 2 other ribbon cables on the sides - leave those connected!
@@takeahike2361 yes it worked great, very easy 2 do! Also if the oleophobic coating is messed up u can use rubbing alcohol on a microfiber towel and buff it off. I did and it made it look shiny n new again!
Hey I have the same issue in my 2014 Mazda 3. Everything on infotainment system gets clicked automatically. Can you please guide me more about how to unplug the ribbon cable ? Thank you in advance.
Great video - thank you!!! Has nothing to do with your video - but my 2016 Mazda 6 had a different ribbon cable connecting the new screen. I never had touch support (it's a Touring model) so I left that bottom ribbon cable disconnected - screen works just fine. Again - great video - thanks for taking the time to help the community!
Hi mate. I have a 2016 touring model 6 as well. I also have basically no touch function. When I do the screen test it only picks up touch on the very left edge. Do you think this is the same problem as yours? and If so, how did you fix it?
@h3cticness I'm located in the US and I'm pretty sure Mazda USA disabled touch altogether. I've always had to use the knobs and dials on the console. Sorry I can't be any more help.
If you want to save some money, instead of buying the $279 replacement screen with bezel from Mazda, eBay sellers in China sell just the screen (without the new bezel) for $20. You apply some heat to break the adhesive connection between the old touch surface and the bezel, clean out the old adhesive and re-use the bezel. Big savings! In reality, I think Mazda should be on the hook for all of these defective screens. There are plenty of TSBs. Maybe time for someone to file a class action lawsuit. My family has three newer Mazdas (2020 and 2018) and ALL THREE have ghost touch. Terrible!
This was a great tutorial! But the bubbles, why did you not get them out? Do they not come out? I swear that would bother me more than the Ghost touch itself!
I have a 2017 cx5 not only does it ghost touch..but sometimes the screen will glitch out and the whole thing resets...would this fix that too?? I also did the display check and ot works fine, no loss of cursor when I move my finger across the scree
Could i bother you for help for diagnosis of my 2016 Mazda 3? I have reverse camera and sensor on it. Whenever i put in reverse, camera show's up together with annoying beeps, but not showing sensor area nor something. I do not have button for parking sensor either. Is it because one of them failed or...? Best guess?
Just use your Mazda knob as much as you can as this screen lens looks very delicate... Wonder what is causing it to fail, temps or maybe someone applying too much pressure on the lens using is as touchscreen?
I only used all the time the knob in my Mazda cx5 2019 and I have the same problem with ghost touch. So this is not too much pressure on the lens. I think the lens has manufacture defect because a lot of people have the same problem and Mazda should fix this for free!
@@kdomster9141 I live in Chicago, yes we have hot here sometimes. Recently I have decided to disconnect my phone and now it happened much less. Maybe one time for couple days. the bubbles are a thin film on the screen. like a protective shield like you would find on a new tv. I always leave it on for the customer to take off.

Another great video. I like your style of stepping through the entire procedure. Thanks for this one! And continued good luck with your newborn!
Just the video I needed! Sun burnt my screen and has a dead spot and has ghost touch. Looks exactly like that cars screen.
Very helpful and well done. Worked perfectly for us on our 17 cx5. The ghost touch was a huge dissatisfier and has been corrected. Thanks.
