      I see cards in the grocery aisles. Way over priced. Shame that the hobby is expensive and kids won't have the enjoyment of putting a card in the bike spokes to make that cool noise.

    My all-time favorite set. The 7th Series was never released on the West Coast, so I ended up paying an outrageous five dollars to get the complete series via mail order. Imagine that! Rod Carew rookie, Tom Seaver rookie, Brooks Robinson, Maury Wills, Jim Bunning. But in 1967, for a twelve year old kid, five bucks was a small fortune!

  • @nicholasschroeder3678
    @nicholasschroeder3678 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    People pay a ton to try to relive their childhood. But you can't. What's sad is that adults turning a kid's hobby into a business took away this childhood experience from the kids of today.

      Then, there's the whole matter of trust. If someone's father bought a sealed BOX back in 1967 for their child, somehow forgot it, stored in an attic or basement, and it was found 50 years later, who would believe the box hadn't been opened, searched and resealed 🤔. Ditto the packs 🤔

      Not necessarily. I have a 68 cello pack that has been PSA holdered where the cards are face up from the seal. Topps even issued cards upside down sometimes and facing from the wrong side of the pack through the 80s.

    If one of the backs of the cards is darker than the others then the pack has been resealed.

    I opened hundreds of these packs as a nine year old in 67 and there are two things I'd like to mention. I remember the gum being at the top of the cards, exactly where the gum was in this, but the cards were facing the other way. Meaning, when he opened the pack, it should have been the back of the cards he saw first. Second, the gum was oblong and powdery. It could be age that caused the powder to disappear. I remember the powder being all over the top card. Another thing: what are the chances of getting two Mets cards in a row? Can someone do the math on that?

    • @ubk42
      @ubk42 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is not surprising at all. There were only 20 teams then. You would have had the same question if it had been any of the teams. So it is 4 chances at a 1 in 20 event.

      Bob Koca: The formula for finding the probability of two independent events happening in a row is to multiply the two. So to answer my own question it's 1 in 4000. Possible but highly unlikely. It's actually lower because there were other cards in the series like rookies cards and series check lists as well as other miscellaneous cards. I remember the series well. It was my first collection and I had about 500 of the cards. I went on to collect the entire series of cards for the next four or five years.

      I made a mistake. 20x20=400, not 4000. So you have 4 chances, at 1 in 400 odds, to get two cards in a row from the same team. Unusual but not that unusual.

      "Mostly" commons? Name me one semi-star out of those five nobodies. This is why it's always best to leave unopened packs unopened. Even if you pull a star/rookie, the price you pay for the pack will always be greater than whatever you'd get for the individual cards. It's like how a car depreciates drastically the minute you drive it off a lot.
