@Myles Garrett I agree bowman should be more valuable, but the 52 topps mantle is his first topps card not his topps rookie card, he did not have a 51 topps card, you can only have one rookie card season and for the Mick it’s 1951. As an example you could say Stan Musial’s topps rookie card was the 58 all-star card but no one would say it’s his topps rookie card it’s just his topps first card. I know it’s semantics and you might say splitting hairs but it’s fun to share my own opinions, have a great day.

We would lay the cards on the garage floor and roll a marble to home plate where you would brush the batters card to hit the marble, if it rolled over a fielders card it was an out and how many bases was based on how far a fielders card was from it.
Needless to say the cards would have a grade of "0"

Love me some Antique Roadshow, this is one of those shows that about 3-4 generations of my family all sit around watching it at random times on PBS. I agree he is a little low on a few of these, they probably could go for more. But the one thing we all know about selling and buying, is retail price. Very rarely will you actually get full market retail price for anything much less sports cards. In other words, like Pawn Stars, the buyer/seller has to make money also, so they won't give you $12,000 for a card worth $12,000. Plus these are ungraded so the appraiser is only speculating what they would be worth if graded. Grading is in the eye of the beholder, meaning one graders 6 might be a 4 or an 8, obviously the 4 worth less the 8 worth more. Regardless thank you very much for posting this I enjoy all of the "sports" and comic book related items that show up on Antiques Road Show. Happy Collecting!

Drooling over that Mantle card! I have decent 59,64,65,67 & 68 Mantles but I know all I'll afford is a reprint of the 52 unless I get lucky like a friend finding a 33 Goudey Ruth in an old dresser under the paper drawer liner he bought at a Salvation Army thrift store a few years ago. I recently bought a bunch (15)of 1968 pop up football cards that had never been popped up, at the same thrift store for $9.99 plus tax. Most were quarterbacks like Namath,Gabriel,Meredith,Lamonica etc...

Sept 2024 avg. selling prices, per Vintage Card Prices (VCP) -- Mantle PSA 5, $131,000; Robinson PSA 6, $18,750; Williams PSA 3.5 about $7,000. I'd grade the Williams 3.5, I think the bottom left crease is too significant. The other estimates seem good based on the front. AR fan here and I probably did see this when it first aired, but I'd forgotten about it. The appraiser HAS to know it's not a Mantle rookie, right? Maybe he says rookie to try to simplify it for the audience?
