    Qroo Spanish is answering questions about Spanish that I haven't found in textbooks. This is by far the best format I've found. Every time I see one of these videos, I get clarification about usage that I never really understood well enough to use or to teach effectively. I have been studying Spanish for a long time. I have taught beginning and intermediate high school Spanish over a long teaching career, also teaching French and German. I grew up bilingual. What makes this program exceptional is that explanations are given in a grammatical format with examples to try out. I especially like the reasoning behind the usage, which makes it easy to remember and use the new stuff. The best ever!

    I got the best spanish lesson ever the other day when playing poker. A young spanish guy to my left said to an older spanish guy to his left "la ultimo mano", "the last hand". It struck me cause I heard him clearly and the correct way is "la ultima mano", but he was speaking in a way that Michel Thomas described as "Over the net" cause it was understood. Good news is I didn't correct him lol and instead stopped worrying so much about little errors like that, cause if the native speakers don't care, why should I. Good times. Happy Holidays to all.

    Paul, lo has clavado. Los españoles me corregían mucho por "de que se trata" ... De que trata es lo correcto. La otra información también es muy útil. "No tiene nada que ver con ..." es una expresión que utilizo a diario. No me sorprende que hayas superado los 100.000 suscriptores que mereces todo el éxito.

      Along the same lines, I was taught merecer is reflexive, is it the te lo mereces or mereces ?

    • @glaze4629
      @glaze4629 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@silentjay6132I'm not a teacher, but I'm a native speaker so here I go the best I can, "te lo mereces" is used in the context of a reward, let's say a friend of yours has been working very hard and they've got a promotion, in that case you'd tell "te lo mereces", however "te lo mereces" is in fact an expression, if you wanted to more specific about it, you'd tell "Te mereces esa promoción, bien hecho"
      "mereces" is more of a desire thing, for instance "Has trabajado duro, mereces esa promoción" wich translates to "You've been working hard, you deserve that promotion", as you can tell someone wants another person to achieve such promotion.
      In short, "te lo mereces" is an expression that can be replaced with "mereces" if a more specific context is needed.

    Hi Paul, is there a “rule” for using the article with the verb tener? For example: Ojalá la casa tuviera garaje. As an English speaker my natural inclination would be to say *un* garaje, so is there any way to know when to omit the article? Thanks in advance.

    Great video as usual. A question unrelated to this video- are Spanish words always pronounced the same as they are written? What I mean is that for instance in English, the word “live” can be pronounced “liv” or “lyve” depending on the meaning/context. Are there such words in Spanish?

    • @QrooSpanish
      @QrooSpanish  ปีที่แล้ว

      Spanish pronunciation is much easier because they will be pronounced as they are written. If the emphasis is on a different syllable than it normally would be, thry will include an accent mark over that vowel.

  • @ivanivke

    Great video! Sobre can be used when you say that you will come “sobre las cinco. de la noche”…but what I am having hard time finding in Spanish is when French people say: vers 5 heures…this is close to 5, but actually a little bit before 5…any idea how we can say this in Spanish. “Towards 5” would be in English…but is this correct?

    • @jackbussy3133
      @jackbussy3133 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      En francés, « vers 5 heures » no significa un poco antes de las 5, pero claramente significa alrededor de las 5. Puede que pasen 10 minutos antes o 10 minutos después, pero diremos: «Nos vemos vers 5 heures ». Una forma educada de no asumir un compromiso demasiado firme.
