Fishing with One of the BEST Inshore Lures - MirrOlure MirrOdine

  • In this video, I set a goal to catch fish by only using artificial lures. After starting the day throwing a D.O.A. C.A.L., I switched over to a MirrOlure MirrOdine; which some people believe is the best inshore saltwater fishing lure. I was fishing in shallow crystal clear water and was able to sight fish some snook. I then targeted speckled trout with the same MirrOdine and was able to catch two of the biggest trout I've caught all winter!

Tony, thank you SO much for reminding folks to moisten their hands before handling trout, especially if they're to be released. I see far too many otherwise excellent fishermen, including C&R professional guides who don't. I was taught early on to do so and even if the water's cold, I do it. It needs to be broadcast often in my opinion, especially by TH-cam channel owner/operators to set the example for their audience. Thank you and excellent video on the Mirrodine success.

Very good lure and it seems to work particularly well here in MA/RI when there’s peanut bunker and other small bait around. However, a gator blue bent the snot out of the rear treble hook this past weekend. If you plan to fish Northeast waters for Blues or Stripers recommend you swap out the trebles for something a little more robust.

That MirrOdine & the Paul Brown Fattie Texas Chicken is the best arti for nice Spec's.
I was fishing around guys on the jetties that were using live shrimp & catching trash fish.
I threw that MirrOdine 3.5" & hooked up w/ 2 lady fish. Then switched to the Fatty & limited out in 10min on huge Spec's!
I had guys offering me $40 for that lure but it was all I had. That evening I bought all the Paul Browns I could find on Amazon & the Yo-Zuri 3.5" mullet.

Congrats on those 2 mules. The spots on the 1st 21 incher were particularly handsome. May you be favored with many more throughout the year. And yeah, I've always been partial to Mirr-O-lures. Back in the 70s I had a 3-treble clear with fire engine red back & sides that I was real partial to. Only saw that color once and like a doofus I didn't buy 3 or 4 (got it @ Sears of all places.) Caught damn near everything on it. Snook, redfish, bluefish, dolphin (mahi), kingfish, even nailed one of my two wahoo on it. You'd think I'd lost one of my kids the morning I was surf fishing, doing my retrieve & suddenly, nothing. Not bite, no strike, just dead mono. Cut off above the wire, shark/cuda - My Precious was gone & I never saw that color again.😭
But, yeah, whatever the color - great lures, for me, for almost half a century. Good stuff. 👍

Better than both in my personal opinion with Redfish being second. They fight so well too, just an awesome fish

    • @dank8865
      @dank8865 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

I'm gonna tell you more about snook as food than you want to know & will follow it up with some personal info as a testimonial. I'm just now 60 yrs old. Been saltwater fishing since I was 8 & introduced to snook fishing specifically when I was 12 or 13 and became almost immediately addicted to the species as both a recreation and food. The meat is like the cod or whatever they use @ Long John Silver only good. Very white. Very tight, not mushy. Not fishy & extremely consistent all the way through the fillet & all the way through the sizes. You can't keep them this big now, but the meat on huge 45 lb horse is as firm and white and "unfishy" as 7 - 8 lb fish. Redfish compares well. However, I've found that snook is firmer & waaay less fishy than redfish. Also redfish, again, to me, become less desirable the bigger they get. If this was back in the 70s & you could keep a 38" redfish, you may not wasn't to because you'd have to slather it in so much lemon, garlic, butter, and white wine to overcome the soft grey meat and fishy taste that it's not worth serving it as "fish." It's not like bluefish bad - but... let's just say there's a reason dude came up with the dish "blackened redfish." As for speckled trout it's no contest. No matter the size of the fish in question if you layed pieces of snook & trout fillets next to one another, I'd be dumbstruck if anyone chose the trout. Snook would be easily whiter and firmer and most likely (unless comically butchered the snook) with far less red veins or areas that tend to carry "fishy" taste.
Now here's the personal testimonial part.
I don't eat fish. Can't stand it. Never have.
My friends love me cuz if I keep anything, I give it away (filleted. Except when I go shrimping - I ain't cleaning your shrimp - you're getting 2 or 3 5gal buckets of "do-it-yourself" FRESH shrimp. So far, nobody's complained, lol) anyway - I give away any catch I keep because if it swam to my plate, it LITERALLY makes me nauseous to smell it cooking (& yes that includes lobster & crab. Don't want no damn ocean roaches.) Salmon - with all its fat - salmon is the worst. For real I've thrown up when my cousin cooked up some salmon my nephew caught in Lake Michigan.
But snook. I'll eat me some snook. Batter it up and fry it in fresh oil with the tartar sauce I make myself - I will eat THE HELL OUTTA SOME SNOOK. Side of fries & slaw - YUM!
Redfish is "ok" and some snapper I'll eat on the same terms as snook, but both of these are iffy and eaten in limited quantities.
But snook fried - & especially deep fried - battered snook is a buffet dish. Go to SW Florida on a vacay or short trip. Ft Myers or Marco Island area. Sanibel Island is The. Place. Right off the coast of Ft Myers. Catch yourself some snook. Eat yourself some snook. You tell me. 😀
Like I said, more than you wanted to know.
      Sorry.
