    I fish the mirrodine in Crystal River for trout in the winter months. Works great. The tug is the drug!

      Same for me, Keith, had a few minutes and was heading to a couple of other Mirrodine techniques videos I’ve archived, when this excellent one popped up as just posted. No need to go to any of the others. This one nails it, very informative instruction, and is now added to my techniques archive.

    Also, when I miss a fish or they let go, I cast right back out just beyond the place I just had the strike, since trout are gregarious, and not just schoolie dinks are! Great video, keep this quality coming!

    I was having a problem getting distance on my cast with this lure on my bait caster reel ,, the reason I went to the MR27 ,, I have since went to my spinning rod for this lure with braid with a flora carbon leader and am now happy with my casting distance ,, haven't put braid on my bait caster reel to see if that would also help with casting distance ,, Oh ,, I was using a loop knot also ,, that will change now lol

    An excellent video, now added to my “lure retrieval” techniques archive. I now realize how guilty I am of overworking this lure. I love them and have way too many which is a good thing 😀. I try to live the mantra of “change retrieves before changing lures”, and to quit arguing with the fish.
    This is tremendous content.
    All Mirrodines come with rattles, some of them actually rattle. I sound snarky but they are manufactured with plastic beads that stick in corners and crevices inside the body cavity. I’ve had to tap them briskly on pliers or something else hard to loosen them up and getting the beads “unstuck”.
    Have you tried them with single hooks as replacements for the trebles?

    • @southernsalt
      @southernsalt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man I could of swore I’ve seen them without rattles but I definitely could be wrong. I don’t change the hooks out to inline, I’ve tried it in the past and the hook up ration went down for me.

    • @johnkarges8829
      @johnkarges8829 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have never seen a new Mirrodine in the package that wasn’t labeled MR17 or MR27, the R indicates that they rattle or are supposed to, LOL. But I’ve had many that stopped rattling before they ever hit the water, and have even drilled holes in some, added the same sized stainless bb’s and resealed it with silicon just trying to preserve some rattling. The heavier metal beads dislodge the stuck plastic ones too and since I only add 3 of 1/8” stainless ball bearings, it does not seem to influence weight or sink rates. I’ve only done this to the larger MR27 series.

    I’ve heard mirrodines aren’t really search baits. What would you consider a good winter search bait or is there no such thing?

    • @southernsalt
      @southernsalt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Man to me a good search bait is a lure you can throw out and cover a lot of water in a short period of time. Typically also a lure you’ve established a ton of confidence in. For me it’s a fluke.

    Sir, those are SO DEADLY. Sir those baits in the surf should be against the law. The heavy dine in olive green/ silver sides in the surf caught 31 trout on it. And also remember when you talk about tying on a shock leader. fluorocarbon does one thing and monofilament does another if you can brother explain that.
