Normally, people compare Vienna and northern Germany, when they want to stress out the differences between "Austria" and "Germany". A comparison of Vienna and Passau (Bavaria) was new at least. But I agree with HammedHain: Vienna is just a city IN Austria, but not Austria itself. The differences within the countries are bigger then the differences from country to country. You probably would have found more differences between people from Dornbirn (Vorarlberg, Austria) and Vienna than between Passau and Vienna.

You don't need to learn to speak the dialect, but it really helps to understand it. Most Austrians or Bavarians will switch to Standard German if they realize you are not a local, but others won't. And even their "Standard German" will be influenced by dialect. And a group discussion might also be in dialect. Then there are the different names for fruits and vegetables. Even northern Germans have trouble with the language in the south. I(German) didn't have these problems as my mother is from Austria and I was there for weeks at each vacation. I can't speak a dialect but I understand most of them (apart from strong Gsibergerisch).

A real lady or gentleman, Austrian, German or other, always endeavor to mean what they say and phrase it as courteously as possible. Call this snobbish if you must, though it isn‘t. Good parenting is not just the mark of nobles and patricians; plumbers, butchers and farmers master it just as well, as long as they believe it matters.

I am an anomaly. I am from Italy but I live in he USA. Nonetheless, the USA has not changed me. I was always an anomaly. I think I would feel right at home in Germany because I am very direct to the point of sounding critical, even if in my mi d I am helping and giving feedback. I am also super punctual, actually early all the time because an appointment to me means you have to be ready when the appointment starts. I am very detail oriented and I value civic honesty. I know that all these traits are very German. On the other hand I am not an elitist, and that is very in line of how the Americans are. I am uncomfortable with all the formalities that Italians use, along with many other Europeans, and I think that was a derivation of me moving to the USA.

You are not Austrian, it's a nationality you are just American. If you do not have dual citizenship with Austria or are generations removed then you do not class as one. Austrians are ethnic Germans even Austrians admit this then again by you saying Austria is better than Germany it looks to me you are denying your German blood. Before you go around saying your 100 percent Austrian (which is actually german) take a DNA test gosh! The locals aren't gonna automatically accept you as one of their own just because your heritage or have visited the place 😂. I dont Know if you Are interested in history but the Austrian emporer Franz Joseph I and Mozart also Said as Austrians that they identify as germans. Also Austria was the leader of the German confederation founded in 1815 and they lead the German states during the German war in 1866. Austrians started to Not identify aus germans After the Second world war because they dont want to associated with the Nazi crimes Even tho Hitler was Austrian himself.
