Frank Rizzo - You Know if You Know. IMO, Every CR Model was BadAss that Year. My Pal had an ‘86 80cc (after we’d outgrown 80s) that would HoleShot Brand New & Older YZs, KZs & CRs from 80 to 250cc in ‘94. Most Call BS, when I Tell Tales about that Bike, but if You’ve Been on One, You Know. They’re Still BadAss, Beautiful & Sexy. I had an ‘87 CR125cc that I Regret Parting with in ‘95...I Even-Traded for an ‘82 KZ1000LTD 😢 I’ve Chased Blue-Seat CRs Ever Since, but Haven’t Found the Right One Yet. This 2Vintage Series Gives Me Hope that One’s Out There for Me.

@@corporalclegg914 I have been looking for either a 250 or 500 for years now and only find those that to me are financially too expensive to ride. I still remember my 86 kx 80 that was too small physically for me but was such a blast to ride. My son had a new 85 with flat slide carb, full pipe and proactive suspension when he was 12 and to me, other than the suspension, my 80 was more fun.(I had kept it and rebuilt it for my son but he was sponsored at the time and his 05 was a better track bike). I sold it to cover travel costs to run my son to races. I wish I still had it just to have.

    • @corporalclegg914

@@frankrizzo5057 - that’s BadAss, Man. thanks for confirming that the little CR80 was a Beast. we hear of Factory Freaks, but sometimes the full production run reflects Great Engineering. my boys can ride, but don’t race. thank God for that, or I’d have No Toys left to cover Costs! you’re a Great Dad for Selling your old bike for his Operational Expenses. hopefully we’ll both find a Blue-Seat CR that can rip our Old & Heavy Asses around, soon.

    • @frankrizzo5057

@@corporalclegg914 it’s the reason I want the 500. I am large and love how scared the 500s still make me to this day. 250 is lots and I would think a 125 would probably do, but I wouldn’t be happy. My son raced for almost 10 years and I tried to make every race. Sold all my toys so that he could do what he loved. Not a single regret for doing it. I had as much fun watching and wrenching. I now have some toys again as he is 26 and has a one year old son. I am rebuilding a pw50 for my grandson already. His wife seemed to be ok with it so he will get it when he is ready. My son started at 4 years old on a pw as he was already riding a bicycle at 3.5 years old. Can’t wait to see my grandson and son make similar memories. Maybe Grampy can go for a ride with them. Have a good one and good luck tracking down that blue seater.

Sorry going to have to disagree with this statement. Late 80's Hondas yes 88,89. But definitely not mid 80's. My 85-86 CR125,250 and 500 lift the front end in every gear. If you can keep the front end down you would hole shot every take off. My 89 125,250 and 500 are pussy cats until you hit the power band, then you better hold on.

I’m 47 and it’s still cool, nothing more satisfying than hitting power band all the way to sixth gear. Cranking it to the max, two strokes aren’t as popular these days, tuned 4 strokes have taken over, but man that 2 stroke power band is addictive.

Awesome work on the CR250 Joe! I bought the 86' CR250 brand new and it was fast out in the AZ desert riding with my friend on his 86' ATC250R (now looking back on the 250r was a 3-wheel rocket). Thank you for your hard work on bringing back these vintage bikes.

Very much agreed, regarding the 250r racing 3 wheeler. It's too bad that they stopped making those, as well as the Yamaha Banshee's, since so many people got badly hurt on them.

    • @chrisrosenberg863
      @chrisrosenberg863 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I wish they still made the three wheelers too! They probably are not the easiest to ride but I grew up on them and it is all we knew how to ride, I raced dirt bikes so for me a three wheeler was actually safer to ride in my mind. I have never owned a quad and I just like to be on 2 wheels for sure.

love it, excellent walk thru, showing your actually work in progress , nice editing! you talk through , sharing how to approach an older CRs if anyone finds one and wish to do the same, this is great, kinda reminds us this is what You tube is all about too...i love the way honda used to look too, red , blue and gold, best colours, they certainly did have the best 2 strokes which is ironic honda didnt like 2 strokes but they ended up making the best, then market and powers that be, choked it, later bikes got lamer, etc after 1989 or there abouts (same as stopping those cool 250 production road bikes) sigh. if you come across a 125, get it, 85-86-87 (86 was the best) . Great work guys.

I bought a brand new 85. $1895 OTD! I will never forget the first ride. Then I talked to a guy in the shop, he said “when you start the hillclimb shift up”. I’m like whaaaat? It worked. The 86’s corroded in just a few years from new. The 87 was the one to get. The 85 was terrible to start and it ruined boots with a short kicker putting a hole in the bottom of the boot. Until 87 the front forks just sucked.

I just turned 40 the other day and I was doing similar work on the same vintage bikes as a teenager! Wish I had a hydraulic stand then like that one you’ve got Joe. Last time I put fork boots on I had a couple ratchet straps going from the rafters of my garage to the handlebars holding the bike up! And I now find myself tensing up in anticipation every time you crack a bolt loose.....cuz I know you’re thinking the same thing “Is it gonna come loose or break?”.
Btw, a chain breaker/press is like $20 and WAY easier than using a grinder or dremel tool.

all the 1984-96 Cr are just like Chuck said 31:57 he is right on. The newer 1997-2000's have a heavier flywheel and computer controled carburetor to keep mid-range Trackable. I have a 1990 Cr 250 and a 2001 Cr250. My 1990 Cr 250 is mint original I love riding it because of the powerband at upper 3rd gear its like hitting a nitrous button. Whoop! Whoop! I won the Spring Amateur Championship series at Budd's Creek, MD in 1988 on a 1986 CR250. However, if anyone takes it to the MX track, please know that the forks needs 3 steps up in stiffness and the shock needs 2 steps up. Otherwise you will BOTTOM way to often. Other than the weak-ass springs, that bike came from the factory ready for racing. The engine/tranny was truly great. So too was the frame geometry (handling/cornering)..once the springs were upgraded....

I had the exact year as this, 86. I put an extra gas tank on both of my cr250s. The other one was a 2003. Miss them greatly at times. Friends and I used to do desert riding in arizona.

My cousin had CR80 that looked just like that when we were little. It was either a 86 or an 89 but that thing ripped, 80's 2 strokes were raw in your face power.

Growing up in MI my Dad was in a dirt bike club BOTH (Brothers of the Hill) and that his was called old 92. Nothing but YZ490s and up could climb it. Until one of the Brothers showed up with a CR250 and made it. Was a struggle but shocked everyone. I’ve always been a Suzuki Man even having owned a CR500 - But always remember CRS as being something special from that climb. Ruts at the bottom over the foot pegs so no flying start then you in that deep white sugar sand with no speed. After that dog legged I ncline that gets steeper ever 10yrds into more sand then ruts at the end it has this bear vertical overhang to send you and your bike straight to the hospital. Yhea I was 13 so everything was bigger. But there were some serious riders and only 7 out 100 made it. One on a 250cR which speaks to skilled rider and skilled engineering.
