I have spent several years training in Krav Maga, no trainer I have every talked to would recommend fighting when you don't have too (Especially a knife fight). Always run if you can (exceptions apply, most notably if you are with your family). On the other hand, if you are forced to defend yourself, being trained in Krav gives you a better chance at survival than otherwise. If your attacker thinks they just attacked a pissed off psychopathic badger with vampire, you are doing the right thing. It is, however, worth noting that all of my instructors have told me that if I ever have to use the things I practice, I did something very wrong and very stupid, because I should be aware of my surroundings enough to avoid the fight in the first place. Also, to the guy who said Krav assumes many ideal situations... You should go to a [good] Krav class some time. The whole reason for sparing is to put you in situations that don't even approach a broad definition of "ideal".
Joe Meatballs or do a judo shoulder throw... only if you absolutely know he’s gonna kill you. That hook grabbing thing is all good but the person with the knife has way more force and can rip the knife back against your throat much easier
@@AlejandroCab98 They don't have more force due to the way leverage and mass is applied; part of that technique (that wasn't showcased very well) is pinning that arm to your chest after the initial pull-down, and then leaning forward to leverage his elbow with your upper body (and the weight that entails). One of the fundamentals that you should always learn when dealing with grappling is that whatever part of the body you want to control, you need to be able to exert more leverage and force than the muscles in/around that part of the body can feasibly move. Pitting your arm against their arm isn't going to work outside of just a quick pull, but pulling in against your body makes it difficult to push away with the angles involved, and leaning down is going to stretch the elbow. At that point, your grip shifts to some semblance of a wrist-lock, and the principles are the same: you use your whole arms to manipulate his wrist, and your body to manipulate his arm below the elbow, to get into what I like to call the "Why you stabbin' yourself?" maneuver. Ultimately, though, if you can pull off a judo hip toss, that is a good way to go if you're only dealing with one attacker, as just that fall is likely to mess up the attacker if they aren't trained to take a fall. But ultimately, when knives are involved, if you walk out with all your fingers attached and your vital organs not penetrated, you did alright.
*insert vague "this situation never happens that way" quote from someone that doesn't know any self-defense at all and doesn't realize that learning this will at least help in one situation, unlike just making this comment which wouldn't help anyone in any sself-defense situation reply*
In this case it's not that bad. Control the weapon and get out of its way. There's a lot more, but this is a fairly generic knife defense. To make is more functional, train with an opponent pulling you, maybe hitting or covering your hair. Do athletic conditioning for balance to resist being jerked around, and plyo exercise for explosive power. Self defense works better and better the more fit you are.
This technique might be okay or it might kill you. But as someone who trains kickboxing, judo, bjj and wrestling... krav maga kinda sucks Edit: even the guy in the video mentioned “bjj has step by step where you have to nail each step to get it right” and she basically says nahh we don’t do that and explained you gotta use your.. whatever that was
The beauty about other structured martial arts, and some have been around for centuries, is they (in my observation and opinion) better exploit the weakness in the human structure, and allow anyone of any height and weight (often) to learn the principles needed to apply the moves on any height and weight (often). I don't like how some krav maga practitioners kind of slander other martial arts, and say that a willingness to kill (in order to survive of course) is their strength. I'm pretty sure if other martial arts were carried out without a ref ending the interaction, basically all disciplined moves will kill (in order to survive of course). Krav maga is just an unruled system. Personally, it would be harder for me to communicate the moves to myself when thinking, "oh I gotta do the knife thing now" versus "roundhouse, block, duck, right hook, incoming left hook, shift right, jab, etc" or maybe some other terms. I also ask myself this question when I have to compare apples and oranges, "Will the best [insert apple] beat the best [insert orange]?" This practical thought experiment is subjective but worth thinking about, because for me I think the best MMA fighter would beat the best krav maga fighter. Some people would say that krav maga fighters would have all skills of all disciplines if they were the best (unrealistic because that would be a lot to know), but to them I'd say that he would then tie the MMA fighter because they both would be the best in my thought experiment. This would, for me, prove that krav maga can only be as good as MMA but no better. I hope this wasn't the vague thing you alluded to.
Great idea!!! Maybe they should try out different ones to see what type is best or if you can do it and still have the instrument in so if somebody checks it looks like a normal case.

would it be a bad idea to stab the knife into them and then start punching and kicking? That way the knife, as long as you keep it pinned, really can't be used against you.
dcard228 I understand. I do self defence not dissimilar to this. This doesn't appear to work if the attacker has a fast reaction. But still a demo should be different than practice. I would like to see a more realistic demo of this.
How is this any different from any other martial arts of self defense demostration? In any demostration they don't just say "hit me!". They demonstrate different techniques and moves for different specific situations. Wtf.
@@gtb_greedy7208 Well there's a chance you'll die no matter what decision you make. So I guess you're somewhat right. But it doesn't mean it's a guaranteed death.
@@gtb_greedy7208 GTB_Greedy Ehh, fair point. But would you prefer a potentially repairable wound over death? Now that I think about it. Either way, fight or not, it's going to be either a near-lethal wound, or death. So that kind of puts everything up to chance.
I would. If i were an attacker. False sense of security prevents opponents from running away, and if i were the attacker i wouldnt be holding the knife like that and wouldnt have a two foot gap between either. 2:33 . Dont use this nonesense, itll get you KILLED. Thats why it is offensive. People will believe this video and then get stabed to death trying to apply these nonsensicle 'techniques'. Alot of modern martial arts is based in theory and they sell that theory without testing it. Either to profit or to justify false confidence. If you see a knife run and give them what they want or get a knife yourself so you can cut them more than they cut you because you are going to die.
Remember though that it's important to train with resistance as there are many minor details that make a big difference when defending against a determined attacker rather than a lackadaisical one.
If you actually want to learn how to defend against knife attacks watch Active Self Protection some of the knife attacks he breaks down. Ofcourse watching videos isnt all that you should do, all forms of martials arts WILL help you in some way, just knowing your own strenght and what it takes to disable a threat Just like 99% of attacks, they happend from an ambush, meaning with a knife, if you didnt pay attention before that first swing comes out, youre going to get stabbed. Real life knife attack are fast, brutal and nothing like knife fights in the movies. If you dont have the attitude, skills and plan, the best thing you can do is to get out of the dangerzone as quick as possible. If not remember the 5 D's, Deflect, Dominate, Distract, Disarm, Disable Btw, when doing the first technique you can expect to get cut in the throat to some extent unless he actually is hovering the knife several inches from your throat...
if you learn want to learn how to defend yourself against a knife, then get off youtube and go get training. you will never learn the skills from videos alone.
Best self-defense for close quarters is wrestling, judo, and some BJJ. But wrestling and its emphasis on controlling the arms, 2 on 1's, using the body to move the other around is the most versatile for armed self-defense. Obviously needs to be adapted but....
Modern Rogue episodes seem to fall into three categories. 1) Just cool shit to learn that has no application (backmasking, TV hijacking) 2) Cool stuff that you can use in your life (Any booze episode, nerf gun, Passwords) 3) Stuff that 99.9% will never use but you kinda feel badass for learning (Any self defense episode, Dead Drops, sword fighting) I have to admit I get a little bummed when it is a #3 episode cause, while cool to learn, has no application. Also often is pointless unless you can train on it. Because frankly without training it is dangerous to think you know these things when you really don't.

It's also pretty hard to turn yourself around and body stab the attacker, you've gotta move three feet the attacker has to move three millimeters.

dcard228 I understand.
Wtf.
I love you guys! you guys seriously deserve more views and subs!!!!
Thanks! Help us spread the word.
Modern Rogue learning Parkour or Free rund? !
Second time a RT employee has been in Modern Rougue. It's always a cool treat
Hey it's Eddie from Rooster Teeth
You two are becoming the most dangerously armed, hand to hand combat trained, mixed drink making men out there.
That's the idea!
If some one holds you hostage with a knife or try’s to rob you just do as they say and give them what they want real life isn’t like the movies
That doesn't mean they'll keep you alive.
han sy if there guna kill you when you comply they’ll 100% kill you if you fight back
@@gtb_greedy7208 Well there's a chance you'll die no matter what decision you make. So I guess you're somewhat right. But it doesn't mean it's a guaranteed death.
han sy no matter what a TH-cam video/ a fake martial arts tells you, you cannot defends yours against a knife without getting stabbed
@@gtb_greedy7208 GTB_Greedy Ehh, fair point. But would you prefer a potentially repairable wound over death? Now that I think about it. Either way, fight or not, it's going to be either a near-lethal wound, or death. So that kind of puts everything up to chance.
"Do you have to scream to add an element of surprise?"
Brian Brushwood 2K17
I did this but the attacker dropped the knife and decked me in the face with his other hand.
Fun.
I hope one day I have a best friend I love as much as these two love each other. The perfect bromance 🤣
Idk about anyone else, but _I_ wouldn't mess with those ladies.. they look tough!
yuuuuup
@@darkwraithknyack126 I assume youve been in a lot of knife fights then?
@@SteamPumpGamer not for 10 months i havnt, you are late to the party phuckstick
The entire time i was replaying the outtakes in my head
Damn Eddie works at rooster teeth.
Remember though that it's important to train with resistance as there are many minor details that make a big difference when defending against a determined attacker rather than a lackadaisical one.
There now is a direct link between Modern Rouge and Rooster Teeth. this is now a very awesome day!
ah, but there already was: th-cam.com/video/fumiLSAYKVA/w-d-xo.html
The Modern Rogue I can’t believe I missed that episode! Thank you so much for sending that to me. This truly is an awesome day! XD
Man, Jason is the master of thinking of creepy things to say. I would never be able to come up anything on the spot like that.
funny one, HAHA couldn't stop laughing
Jace Evans 🔪👹 gimmie all your dungeon and dragons
Darrian Weathington Latch, pull down, step, STAB STAB STAB PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH KICK
If you are able to grab the knife like that you should practice joint locks. You'll end the fight without having to stab them
What if he droped the knife
it's most likely reverse psychology, keep going until there is only a pile of red mush left and even then they could get back up, so burn it.
Oh yes. Krav Maga I've been waiting for this.
I could be wrong, but i think that Eddie the trainer also works at Rooster Teeth. If not, he just looks really familiar.
yep! He totally does, and he's awesome.
Wow that was a fast reply. Thanks! Keep up the amazing work! Big fan.
Ryan Coates i
Gotta say, I love your shirt Brian.
This one is my favorite self defense video so far 😂
Flashbacks of Ender's game. Finishing it quickly and definitively.
HOLY SHIT THEY DID KRAV MAGA WHAT I SUGGESTED THIS ON THE LAST VIDEO YESSSSS
:-D
javanut123 you're a hero
6:25 I was thinking about the same. What little finger said! :D I love this kind of coincidence.
If you actually want to learn how to defend against knife attacks watch Active Self Protection some of the knife attacks he breaks down. Ofcourse watching videos isnt all that you should do, all forms of martials arts WILL help you in some way, just knowing your own strenght and what it takes to disable a threat
Just like 99% of attacks, they happend from an ambush, meaning with a knife, if you didnt pay attention before that first swing comes out, youre going to get stabbed.
Real life knife attack are fast, brutal and nothing like knife fights in the movies. If you dont have the attitude, skills and plan, the best thing you can do is to get out of the dangerzone as quick as possible.
If not remember the 5 D's, Deflect, Dominate, Distract, Disarm, Disable
Btw, when doing the first technique you can expect to get cut in the throat to some extent unless he actually is hovering the knife several inches from your throat...
if you learn want to learn how to defend yourself against a knife, then get off youtube and go get training. you will never learn the skills from videos alone.
Thanks Sherlock. If someone has a knife to your throat, that someone doesn't want you dead.
Guy S - he wants your money not your life but if you try and make a move he won't think twice. Ain't no rest for the wicked...
This is a fantastic episode
**high fives**
You don't.
rasmus9311 they do
Your overestimating knives. In the grand scheme, big stick > knife in defense.
If someone sneaks behind you and stabs you, then you are screwed anyway. This is if you are taken from behind and being threatened.
hey modern rogue i love your videos keep up the awesome work
99% of my self defense technique is from youtube.
Best self-defense for close quarters is wrestling, judo, and some BJJ. But wrestling and its emphasis on controlling the arms, 2 on 1's, using the body to move the other around is the most versatile for armed self-defense. Obviously needs to be adapted but....
Please do an Episode about smoking a pipe or cigars.
Thanks
Soon! (ish)
Clemens look cancer spreading
7:07 "Get your hips out." "Like here?"
~Brian goes to mug Jason~
Brian: "Give me all your--"
~Jason thrusts his hips~
Jason: "Sorry, what?"
Brian: "You know what? It's cool. Just...um..." ~Runs away~
KRAV MAGAAAAAA
Modern Rogue episodes seem to fall into three categories.
1) Just cool shit to learn that has no application (backmasking, TV hijacking)
2) Cool stuff that you can use in your life (Any booze episode, nerf gun, Passwords)
3) Stuff that 99.9% will never use but you kinda feel badass for learning (Any self defense episode, Dead Drops, sword fighting)
I have to admit I get a little bummed when it is a #3 episode cause, while cool to learn, has no application. Also often is pointless unless you can train on it. Because frankly without training it is dangerous to think you know these things when you really don't.
Easy use a gun
The Nocturnal Alchemist I like your channel. Just subscribed
You see the problem with that, right? What I'm trying to say is not everybody has a gun, but it being easier is true.
Pop pop.
Unless you carry .45, then *THUMP THUMP*
Explain how you're going to draw and fire a gun with a knife to your throat.
That as well, Ollie. Haha
FINALLY we can get the 6 hour fight between Jason and Brian
We'd last about 6 minutes before getting winded.
