@@DianeJennings Hello Diane. I've read or heard somewhere this quote "some people shouldn't have to die. . .Fred Rogers was one of those people."
I'm sorry I couldn't make it for the FHC, but like I've said before, the videos drop when I'm at work or very shortly beforehand, but I got here as soon as I could. Sadly Mr. Rogers passed away from stomach cancer on February 27, 2003 at the age of 74. When I learned of his death, I (a full grown man who had never met Fred Rogers) cried mournfully. He was such a beloved person and a big part of my childhood.

Mr. Rodgers was a rare, completely loving individual. He made children feel like he was talking directly to them. My favorite thing he did was say out loud when he was feeding his fish. He did this because blind children wrote to him and he wanted assure them his fish was indeed fed.

Thanks for this video. Mr. Rogers was a great man. You can hear during the video the audience laughing at some serious things that he was saying. Unfortunately, shows, like the The Late Show, were geared toward comedy and humor at the expense of the guest. You can tell that Letterman didn’t know quite how to interview someone who was completely sincere in everything he said or did. I too would go to war for Mr. Rogers, but by his own edict it would be a war fought through kindness and understanding.

    • @eschalecdesign2009

Letterman was disrespectful of most of his guests. Though none of them deserved disrespect less than Mr Rogers. I think Conan did a better job of being respectful but still funny. I've never been a big Letterman fan, but I did like how he went to bat for Conan during the Tonight Show fiasco with Leno.

I didn't know he provide all the voices to the puppets as a child. The lessons he shared provided tools for children to survive in this crazy world. I liked the muppets on Sesame Street. I didn't like the show itself so much. It was this odd mix of feeling like it was insulting my attention span with how it jumped all over the place while simultaneously boring me to tears with repetition.
Maybe I would've liked it better if I was neurotypical. Had almost the opposite problem with Mr. Rogers. He was like the personification of a warm hug and I liked him very much, but I'd also avoid watching the show because he was *too* relaxing and I didn't feel like taking a nap.

It's a great song. Every song Mr. Rogers wrote is great. I just struggle with that because my pace is so slow and halting that everyone around me goes nuts. So I try to hurry up and wear myself out just doing one task. And that's if I don't break something or make a million mistakes.
Neurological disorders suck, especially when you don't know you have one (or two, or three...), you just know you're "different." My parents, grandparents, and Mr. Rogers were the only people who said it was okay to be different.

I've put notes all around my apartment telling me to look for the positive in all things instead of the negative, just like Mr. Rogers would do. Being an adult really can beat you down, for a variety of reasons, to the point that you can find the rain in every silver cloud. I found that I was tired of being around me, because I saw the negative in everything. Mr. Rogers was always relentlessly positive. He acknowledged that it was okay to feel angry or hurt, but in feeling those feelings you let them go instead of holding on to them. Lessons he taught us that we forgot the older we got. Miss him.

Your original Mr. Rogers video is my favorite. I've watched it many times. I love to see the light go on over your head as you realize who and what Mr. Rogers was.
I used to like David Letterman when he was on NBC. He fell into a formula when he moved to CBS. He was never much of an interviewer, but he could be very funny. Your highlighting the Chewie ASMR noises is something he might have done.
One of my favorite moments on Letterman was when he had a completely vacuous teenaged model on the show. I don't remember her name, but she didn't have a thought in her head. It made for a difficult interview, and Letterman was getting frustrated. At one point he asked her what she did when she wasn't working. She said, "Huh?" He asked again when she did with her spare time, and she said, "I sleep." Letterman responded, "So what you're saying is, in addition to being a biological necessity, sleep is your hobby."
Mr. Rogers was diplomatic, but he could be openly critical, like he was about the radio guy. He also said straight out that the Horn and Hardart Children's Hour was terrible. He had very strong beliefs about what was good (and bad) for children.
I wonder whether that Mr. Rogers special on discipline is available anywhere. I'll bet it's a good watch.

I used to wacth Letterman after the Tonight Show. After he switched networks, I agree, it wasn't as good. But I think he was significantly better than the garbage that was Late Night with Conan O'Brien. I'm actually glad that O'Brien flopped after Leno left.
When it comes to Mr. Rogers, as much as this world needs his influence, the mold was broken. RIP Fred.

You should watch his speech he gave to the graduating students at Yale I think and him being interviewed by Congress in the 60's. Both are very touching.

I grew up with Mr Rogers. They always showed his show as we all laid on our rugs/mats. We ate our graham crackers & drank our milk. When the show was done, we all laid down for a little nap. To this day,, I always feel sleepy after watching him, even just a little.

I had the good fortune of growing up with Mr. Rodgers and his message of love and inclusivity. He and his message are greatly missed in today's divisive environment. I really enjoyed this video, Diane. I've followed your channel, but I never subscribed. I will today.

When I was a kid I loved Mr. Rogers himself, but thought the show was boring, except when he took trips to the factory and showed how things were made. And even as a kid, him changing his sweater and his shoes every time he entered or exited the house drove me crazy. I miss him now that he's gone. Because after all, he was my much loved neighbor.

He used to come to the movie theater I managed in the early 90s. I have never met a nicer person in my entire life. He was not only pleasant with the staff but also anyone that approached him. One of the most genuine human beings that ever lived.

I had a Mr. Rogers trolley book as a tot. It was a prized possession sadly lost to time. Mr. Rogers left many of his mistakes and bloopers in the show intentionally to show kids he wasn't perfect. I said it before and I'll say it again, we need Mr. Rogers more than ever nowadays.

Mr. Rogers would never want to hear that people are willing to go to war for him. He'd want us to inspire those people to change their ways with love and respect. That's the lesson he taught me as a child.

Your Mr. Rogers video was the first one I ever saw. I first watched Mr. Rogers in the early 1980's. I'm 40. I like to see old shows of Mr. Rogers from the early 1970's that I never saw and new ones from the mid to late 1990's that I didn't see when I was older. If it wasn't for Mr. Rogers, I wouldn't know about you. I don't know how it came up. Probably I searched for Mr. Rogers.

Oh, yes...His 'impersonator' was Eddie Murphy, from a recurring sketch on Saturday Night Live, called "Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood," wherin he lived in a tenement apartment in the slums, and often entered via the fire-escape, to avoid seeing the land lord who would be demanding rent.
