Ed, as an old flathead man (83 years old) I remember hearing that Canadian 59A's were made with more nickel in the casting. ???? I do know that we never had a block failure with them vs. the normal castings. I sure would like to go to my final reward with an answer if you know. Thanks for all your knowledge and the videos bringing back fond memories.
The myth of the high nickel small block Chevys may just be a myth but I believe it when you take those engines apart with high miles of the cylinder walls look like brand new yet I know the big block Chevy's that they say are high nickel some machine shops will actually charge more to both hone and bore because it's harder on the tooling and takes longer to cut
Thanks Ed for sharing your knowledge you definitely think outside the box coming up with your own combinations from different manufacturers and making them work you are a genius
I'm glad someone has all the answers, besides Smokey! Memories, yes! L-72, TH-400, and a 4:56 out back. It's my version of twist n shout! That's a first gen Camaro. 💯🗽🇺🇸
Well I finally had time to watch this video and I was just thrilled to have my questions answered about the dual points and the mechanical advance and vacuum advance and really enjoyed all the other Q & A ! See you on the next one 😀🇨🇦
Just watched the Ford and Chrysler flathead videos. Can't wait seeing the continuation of the 230 built. Ed's generation is truly the Greatest Generation of humble thinkers and innovators like Smokey Yunik, Ed Iskenderian who's celebrating his 103rd birthday soon, Gene Winfield, Vic Edelbrock, Gale Banks to name a few.
Great interview with Ed. He is a remarkable man. Very humble and courteous. Unbelievable knowledge and experience. Thanks for sharing Barry. Have a great day.👍👍🇺🇸
Ed, thank you so much for answering my question about boring with/without a torque plate. Totally gobsmacked with the answer. And learnt more than a few things!! Thank you sir for asking him too!
Kelly's Block Welding Service in West Los Angeles California is still around...... Since the lare 1940's. The gent who owns it worked for the family who stared the shop..... Heck of a machinist!!!!!!!
It's cool to see someone who has experience with all of the American V-8's . I would like to see more on the early hemi on the stand . The 50's Chrysler hemi might make for a good video or 2.
My favourite dude on the Tube. Awesome human ! I've started telling people your my grandpa. God bless to all great Grandpa's in the world past and present.
I'm 71 and have been working on cars all my lifetime as a way to save money. I'm learning so much and enjoying watching. I have a Chevy 350 with a cracked block and did not know about block sealer. Where can I buy it?
Ed rules!! Would love to hear him talk about tips and tricks for building big block Chevys for racing and street rodding. Thanks Ed and Barry, I appreciate you guys taking the time to share this incredible knowledge and Ed's stories with us!
Thank you! We plan to do more. If you have questions on the Chevy big Block, please send them and it’ll give us a good kickstart to provide some content that you’re looking for!
We got cut short on ring pressure, we should say pressure between the top and second ring, many engines will hit a peak power and drop fast in power as rpm increase, but if you have a negative pressure between the rings by making the second ring gap larger than the top ring, you may hit a top power, but it will go flat and increase power for another five six hundred rpm and not loose power, stay blessed, God is good
Ed I have a two questions on the 230 Chrysler engine. How did you seal the hole up you drilled in the block ? and Did you get what was left of the water distribution tube out ?
❤ love it Ed , Thank You Both ! this really helps ! ❤
Fantastic thanks for your comment and letting us know!
Ed is a good man for doing this. Glad he is passing knowledge on instead of taking it with him.
Thanks - that’s a great point. He was naturally a little hesitant to start this at first but then came to that same conclusion. 👍
As I have said before. That Generation Built this Country. We Learn so Much from Ed. Thanks Ed Made my Saturday morning Coffee
