Stuck in a photography rut with your local spots? You're not alone! I often go through stages where I'm frustrated or bored of my local photography locations (even when I live in one of the most scenic areas of the country) - The technique in today's video is something I use often, that you can implement anywhere in order to break out of that photography rut, get creative again and photograph your local spots in a brand new way. In this one I'm doing some long exposure and minimal photography so listen in for the composition techniques and tips as well.
Thanks for watching / supporting my channel!

Love the 3 rock photos! Well worth the wait. Thanks for the inspiration.
Appreciate it thank you very much!!
What a good way to "refresh" our minds! Thank you for bringing this subject at this time
Refreshing is a very accurate word for this!! Thanks so much Diane and you’re welcome!
You're absolutely right, no matter how wonderful the places are that you can visit on a regular basis, somehow, don't ask me how, but you can still get bored of the same old places. Just today, for example, I've been to the same place and photographed the same things I've photographed hundreds and hundreds of times before! And I'm bored with it too! I'm not bored with photography altogether, far from it but going to the same places time after time, is, I think, not necessarily a good thing.
No you’re right, the same way we get sick of the paint colour in our houses, we just need to see new things! It can quickly put photography into a state of no profession if we don’t look further, or at least challenge ourselves to get something different at the same places!
Absolutely, that is just how it is. All around where you live is where you already were, where you have taken so many pictures and know everything like the palm of your hand. I just came back from a 4 day trip to Paris - woooosh, hundreds of photos! Luckily I enjoy taking photos of details, and the closer you get, the more details there are. So not all is lost for close to my doorstep, there still is lots to see and to take pictures of.
Most definitely! And if you do it in rotation often times enough time has passed to warrant going back to the first local spot again and seeing what you can come up with! Bet Paris was awesome for photos, have always wanted to visit on a photography trip! Cheers mate have a good one!
I think many photographers, including me can relate and often say the phrase " I don´t have any new location to photograph". As you mention about going to your local spots, it can really improve your skills and finding new techniques. I often learn to see things in a new way when i visit some local spots. I really like the photographs with that sweet yellow colors from the cliffs at 2:53. It puts some contrasts to the photograph. Have a great weekend!
You’re right! It’s easy to get frustrated but going to a local spot we have been 100s of times is better than going nowhere! Especially when you hunt for new styles 🎉 thank you so much glad you liked that shot! Have a good one mate 🙏🙏
Great shots Greg! Thanks for bringing us along.
Thanks buddy! Appreciate it, have a good weekend!
@@DISTANTMEDIA You too Greg!

Hahhahaahahaha it’s on the list
Great photos here.. Also thanks... I really need to hear this. I've been a slump due to winter here, and got stuck in a rut. This really helped.
Glad to have helped man, get out and go get those shots!! 😎 thanks for watching appreciate it!
greg ,, if you go to low cleugh from bellingham ,, about 2.5 mile along the road just after a bend you will see another canny bastle on your right hand side incorporated with the farm ( hole bastle ) but its ok to visit and take pics ,, then low cleugh is about another half mile or so on the left with another little layby for a cuppa ,, you can see the bastle up the hill..
Thanks buddy I've been checking these out for a visit in the coming weeks!! you should write a guide book or something haha!!
mind you don,t get hooked greg , i did ,, i won,t batter your head here ,, but there is a lot of these knocking about ,it lets you know how the common people lived ,, in a lot of fear,, during the 15th and early 16th centuries in the borders there is a lot in the allendale area aswell , i will look forward to your video greg and i will look you up on instagram.. take care
Oh it’s one of those situations eh😂 I know how easy it is to become obsessed with stuff so rich in history! Especially from a photo stand point. Cheers fella cya in the future vids!!
Really awesome clicks bro , wishes from India 🇮🇳
Thanks a lot man! Have a good one 💪🏻
i know you like old buildings greg ,, have you heard of ( bastle houses ) they were poor mens castles in nothumberland and scottish borders and theres quite a few dotted about , i think i would dare to suggest a couple for you to visit .... low cleughs and hole near bellingham just east of bellingham also black middens and barties peel northeast of bellingham ,, black middens is on a reivers trail i think you would enjoy but i would suggest a pair of wellies if you go to barties but its worth it ..
Thank so much mate! I'll definitely check those out for sure and see if I can get to a couple in a video as well! Funnily enough I was at Woodhouses Bastle the other day just because I stopped at the side of the road for a coffee hah! - Could make a cool project photographing the remaining ones!
Loved the three rock pictures. I'm glad you did this video. I'm on a bit of a downer as I've had to postpone my planned trip to Orkney and Lewis and Harris until September. Gutted is an understatement. I'd like to say your video helped me but it didn't. Still, good try. 😊
Yeah that sucks I don’t think anything helps a trip falling through! - still at least you have it to look forward to later in the year I guess 🫣
