I picked up a banger yesterday, waiting patiently in a campground under a big willow with an interesting t-shaped dock framed up nicely. Eventually, an older man came along with 2 young boys, they went out on a dock and I captured the angling tutorial in the golden light with the moon coming out above them! It's one of my best ever compositions! I don't photograph people often but I think that will change.
Love your vision on elderly people in photographs, they have more stories to tell, more wrinkles, more life experience etc. ❤ So true…Thx for again another interesting video 👍🏻
Damn i love how you Focus on the phylosophical and thougtful parts of photography instead of giving us more of that "10 New camera hacks" content. Keep it up and i will never stop watching ❤
I really find helpful seeing all the other shots you took and the explanation as to why you chose the one you did. I’ve gotta keep practicing and keeping in mind the subject. Great reminder. Still working my way through your visual patterns series. Thanks!
Great tutorial. I just got started and often find myself wanting to shoot everything. Sometimes I feel like this will be a good shot, but can't really tell why. I think I'll be more deliberate about my photos, especially when shooting on film. Thanks for sharing!
I sincerely appreciate your approach to producing valuable content. The professional guidance and lack of distracting music are remarkable in this day and age. Thank you very much for what you do!
Thank you for this super interesting video and this series in general. As a beginner who went through so many videos, I think that you can definitely wrap everything up in a unique way that actually makes sense to me. Rather than presenting cold facts, you go a bit deeper. I don't know how to explain it, I hope it makes sense. Again, thank you so much!
Subject always seems as such an obvious ingredient in a composition, but it’s actually quite the challenge to show it off properly. Great video Pat! Greetings from Paraguay 🇵🇾🙌
05:47 the old woman, with the light on her face, stands out in this image 02. She is stopped and the light is just on her face making her pop in this image. Of course, to make it more clear, in the editing process would have to make a lot of masks to drive the people to look at her, but I still think, even with a chaotic scenario, the photo can be very good and directive. Great video!
Yep, the original intention of that series was to find the right subject with the right amount of reflected light. I got it, and it wasn't the photo I showed in this video, but you got the intention of the series there right.
Love the comments on older people. Couldn't agree more. Once I tasted a 20 years old Grange Hermitage red wine and it actually blew me away (and I'm one who normally cant tell the difference between Dom Perignon champagne and beer!). It reminded me of an old lady as opposed to a young and beautiful woman. It was like drinking a wine that had the ages of humanity in it with all humanity's stories of pain and joy intermingled. Rich eternal wisdom
Interesting. It’s the same in music. You have to guide the listener’s focus throughout the arrangement. They shouldn’t ever be confused about which sound (usually the vocal if there is one) they are supposed to be listening to at any given moment. That’s why people aren’t playing like three different guitar soloes at the same time. Imagine how weird that would be to listen to. That’s how I felt about the second crosswalk image
Hi sir the 1st time i saw ur videos about basic photography i understand it well and learn as well.just like you i also love taking photos but i don't have a dslr camera to use i hope one day my dreams to have my own camera will come true 🥰
since I am relatively knew ive watched a lot of videos of composition and everyone agrees that subject is the most important part about composition. So thats my guess having a subject and adequate support for said subject
Interesting concept Pat! In terms of areas such as action/sports photography (my focus at the moment is motorsport) do you feel that this concept takes more of a back seat?
What about those shooters that want no other humans in sight or to be heard? lol To many bad experiences shooting in public spaces. The less people, the better. 🙂

What a cool experience! Keep it up!
Light + Subject are the only two elements that if removed will impact almost every photograph, in every genre.
Why do you say almost?

Absolutely! Thanks for watching!

I mean, sometimes you gotta do both, but I definitely like talking about this stuff more heheh.

Clear identification and focus as to what the intended subject is.
Spot on!
I've been a pro photographer for some time now but I still learn so much from your channel ! One of the best out there :)

Thank you for the valuable information, I'll be considering how to utilize!

Great video Pat! Greetings from Paraguay 🇵🇾🙌
It all starts there, and as long as we have a lot of thought put into it, we'll end up with good images =) Thanks for watching!

The most important element of composition: clarity of subject.
Absolutely!

My pleasure!
Thank you
Thank you for this class? It's perfect for me as composition is my biggest struggle. Can't wait to see what you do next!
Yeah it's definitely something that everyone struggles with at some stage or another. Hope it helped!

Clear communication of an image. What exactly do you want to put in the thousand words that make up what an image communicates to the viewer.
Lol, ah well
Haha very close though!
Thank you very much 😊
My pleasure!
Great video. Inspiring, indeed. Thx.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks Pat. Great video.
Hey Pat, awesome video. Realised I had watched one of yours the day before Jarryd and Alesha mentioned you. Got a lot from it!
Pat you’re a beast bro
Great content! Thanks a lot for sharing! Now is time to go out and shoot something that matters 💪🏼
Good luck with it!
Great video Pat. This video feels should have been a part of your visual pattern series. Its that good lol
Ha, thanks for the kind words there! Appreciate you.
Great communication!
My guess is subject position or perspective lines, I tend to pay attention to those two elements first when I'm looking to compose an image.
Amazing as always!
I love composition ❤😊
A lot of useful knowledge about photography, this man give it to us just for free❤
Sharpness. You can edit almost anything except sharpness
More videos please
Good stuff man.
Thanks for watching!

Pat I love your editing style and wanted to buy your presets but there is no option to pay via debit card. There is PayPal but no debit card.
My guess would be differentiating foreground and background
Close!

Spot on!
greate episode!
Komentar singkat yang terkesan cuek namun tidak kaku: Rule schmule, as long as the picture tells a powerful story, who needs composition rules?
Super random but what brand of hoodies do you always wear?
Interesting concept Pat! In terms of areas such as action/sports photography (my focus at the moment is motorsport) do you feel that this concept takes more of a back seat?
new subscriber here, i love the info you give to the people it really helped me out alot. but i wonder how did mitch get way on top of the rock?
Having a main subject or hero
Absolutely!
Balance.
Close!
Balance, I think every composition should let the elements seem completely in place within the photo itself 🤔
Absolutely essential, and very close to what I'm talking about in the video!
Quality
The Meuuuust :D
Love your accent mate, xxx
What about those shooters that want no other humans in sight or to be heard? lol
To many bad experiences shooting in public spaces. The less people, the better. 🙂
When I get my tax returns in February I am going to buy your photography and lightroom classes.
Lighting?
❤
A good composition need a subject
Absolutely!
FRAMING!
❤🔥
No new Patty K videos for a while? Hope all is ok. Missing the content.
I think a subject
Absolutely!
Oks, you compelled me to comment.
A propper subject? 😅
Absolutely!
Simplify ❌

Simplify ✅
Very very important!
Most important thing about composition would be the subject. Am I right? I guess I’ll find out
A technically poor photograph with a great subject can still be a great photograph. The opposite is not true.
Absolutely.
Comment 💯
I paused @1:33 and my answer is perspective.
