They had a minimum bumper height requirement here in the sates when it was being sold. This was there god awful way of getting around that. Most don't have them anymore because everyone thought they were ugly and took the off in the first couple years they were out.
read recently that it was a US version, laws require a certain bumper hight so they went with a spoiler. also read it was heavy and made it seem like the front end would lift up at high speeds

I think the only reason it was used in the Cannonball movie was as a light bar to hang rally lights from since the front end of the car has no place for additional lighting. I just think it set the car apart from any other car that it became iconic to the car.

It was a rare feature for the Countach, but some of them did come with it. I'm not sure exactly why, but I don't think it was a stylistic feature.

The whole purpose of adding the front wing is to remove those ugly front bumpers. Keeping them still is beyond stupid, poor car
