Losing to blanka always feels like youve been robbed clean definately one of the most frustrating characters to lose against alongside kimberly.
out of this whole cast i get the most infuriated losing to Lilly idk why i just do. like i can justify losing to everyone else. but whenever i lose to a lilly i just feel like a big dummy
Don’t feel bad, her initial gameplan is so strong that they had to balance the rest of her kit around it. I’ve even heard that they balanced the entirety of sf6 around condor spire with wind stocks and like 2 other moves
Nah don't feel bad. She's not the best competitively because she's not stable but she has a pretty strong and simple gameplan. She skips the neutral and 50/50 you. Anyone can be killed by that.
Un fact I play better again certain top tier than against Lily, Honda etc. I beat most of them : Luke, Juri, Deejay, even JP (not Ken because fuck Ken), but I still lose to sope annoying so called low tier

Ex spire is definitely reactable with a DP and she cannot throw out non ex or opponent gets a free DI
She’s just got a strong gimmick. As soon as you figure it out she’s pretty trash.
@@Blackreapxr I guess you the best player in the world. Because HibikiTheBeast won a tournament with her, and did spire in Japan. And ProblemX beat pro player with Lily doing also spire.
You guys on the internet are here talking "theory fighter" like you have frame 1 reactions on everything. I assume you also DI everything dragon lash an anti air every single jump. You also dp every Blanka ball or Sumo headbutt, and you never miss a DI back, you also super everything on reaction when burnt out. You DP a 15 frame startup special, playing against a good opponent that mixes his options right ? Gtf outta here.
Pro players sometimes get hit by a DI that is 26 frames. Nearly double the startup. And they fail to press one button back. And y'all PNJ on internet act like you DP every 15f startup special. Even freaking Punk blocks Blanka balls because he often do not react. Maybe you're better than him.
When we talk about fighting games, any competent player know we talk about mental stack. In a vaccuum anything is reactable when you're looking exclusively for it. What make us miss anti airs or DR checks or DI back is how your opponent mixes up his options. In what region are you ? I'll make you play my friend's basic 1900 MR Lily, not even a pro, see how you DP or DI every Spire, when the dude playing Lily is actually competent.
8:42 Worth mentioning that if you get predictable with your parries, he can ball straight down, walk up, and throw you while you’re in parry recovery.
Saw Moke make that read on Menard in Singapore recently. Straight clairvoyance.
Level 1 with chan is not a safe reversal. You can neutral jump always, and chsn won't hit you.
Its meant as safe on block. But yeah, if you jump you can bait it but i don't like that cause he can just wait and AA you with it anyways or upball

Fancy tech:
Blanka has a big body hurtbox like Gief, Marisa, and Honda. When these characters are crouching, their hurtbox is wider than normal characters.
This means that if you get a punish on a crouching big body, you might have an alternative combo route available.
For Blanka specifically, blocking a poorly-spaced slide is an example.
I only play Cammy so I only know for her:
Instead of your normal meterless punish counter combo of st.HP xx HP Spin Knuckle, cr.LP/st.LP/st.LK xx MK Drill, you can do st.HP xx HP Spin Knuckle, b-MP xx HK xx j, j.MP xx Divekick.
This is because HP Spin Knuckle oH usually leaves you +5 but too far away to link your 5f b-MP. But, the wide hurtbox of a crouching big body is fat enough for your b-MP to reach.

There are also audio cues you can use. Each strength of Blanka Ball sounds different, so when you what light and medium sound like, you can train yourself to react properly.
Cammy level 3 punishes h ball aswell. Guile level 1 actually can whiff depending on when the h ball connects with guile in his idle animation. The "deepness" of moves like headbutt, ball, varies in this game and leads to some weird "rng"

1:30 a few other people can punish it like rashid and aki. As well as drive rush uses from weirdly long reaching heavies like chuns kick heavy

Lily can punish it with somewhat relative ease using s.mp, c.hp, and 2hp if you can get the timing down. s.hp can also work to get crumple, but is a little riskier.

@@battlericky17 You'd be surprised actually. Her dp seems to have a better time than most other fighters against his air versions of blanka ball due the more horizontal trajactory of it making the timing not as strict. She can still outpoke him more often than not as long as you're not reckless. In fact, her s.mk hurtboxes are a bit deceptive due to the leg not having them until the first active frame.

I agree that Luke is not as strong as Ken. Compared to Ken, Luke has two major weaknesses:
First, Luke does not have any effective means to avoid the neutral stage. He does not have the dragon lash kick, his drive rush is not as fast as Ken's (Ken has the third(?) fastest drive rush in the game), he cannot drive rush after OD fireball to beat the opponent with massive damage combo, and he do not have so many setup like using the jinrai kick after the 2MK to delete your meter, etc.
Second, Luke is more resource-intensive than Ken. Yeah, his 2MP is better than Ken, Ken's light punch corner carry combo do not need to spend any resource, and his heavy DP is still invincible against fireballs.
Third, I believe that Luke's key punches and kicks are not as good as Ken's, except for 2MP and 2HP.
By the way, 2MP of Ken is very powerful too, compare with Luke, his 2MP has 6 start up frame(same as Luke), 3 active frame(one more frame than Luke) 14 recovery frame and same attack range(5 small grids) as Luke. If Ken 2MP is so great, why Ken players do not abuse it? Because Ken has normals much more better than his already very powerful 2MP.
Ken's 5HP and 5MK have a confirmation time of 19 frames, and they have great attack range. 5MK is 10 small grid long, 5HP is around 8 small grid long, both of them has 19F of hit confirm windows, not only that, they can also be used to set traps and mix-ups. 2MK has a 7-frame startup and a range of 10 small grids. His 5HK is 12F start up with 12 small grid attack ranges.
Luke is definitely in the top five, but he is not in the same tier as JP and Ken.
If Luke's 2MK, 2LP, 5HP, and 5HK were as powerful as Ken's, I am sure that Luke players would not be so fond of using 2MP today.
Who would want to waste resources when you can take your rival into the corner without spending any?
Who would want to risk getting inside 5 small grids when you can hit your opponent within 10/12 small grids?
Blanka feel likes one of those characters that gets buffed online with the way his kit is.

This is long overdue.
Being a Blanka and Gief main since sf2 I never had problems facing him, it is in fact one of my fav matches, but I know how much of a pain he is to deal with, specially for new players. Plus SFVI is without a doubt the best version of the character to date, air blanka ball alone can drive most people mad.
I only ever have issues with dhalsim, blanka and gief never specifically caused me issues.
As you said though in 6 he is so great I expect most people have issues with him they never had before because of drive system.
I think punishing heavy blanka ball with cammy lv3 will work

Guile VS Blanka is one of my favorite matchups the battle of charging and spacing. Plus both have god tier Level 2 supers.
Definitely a tough matchup for Blanka. They have a hard time dealing with patient guile and deejays. His worst matchup is Honda.
I know it's a TERRIBLE MU for Blanka, but as a Blanka player I also really enjoy the tango of fighting a Guile. Feel like I'm going Hulk against every other character on the cast but against Guile I have to be Bruce Banner LOL
Blanka slide needs to be 4fr start up, juggles when you hit opponent, +3 on block and have 7 active frames

@@JoeyCentral The fact that they are good players doesn't change the fact how strong Chun Li is. Blanka also has an excellent player, but he almost didn't make it, and here we are, looking at a guide against Blanka.
Without a doubt Chun Li is a stronger character, there are tons of content teaching how to use her but practically none teaching how to deal with her, so why not? She is a considerably problematic character to deal with at higher levels, much more than Cammy or Juri.
@@andresouza5751 I think Cammy or Juri is better than Chun Li because of their practicality. An average Juri or average Cammy will beat an average Chun-Li any day of the week. For one Moke or Valmaster you find, there’s thousands of Chun mains like me who consistently drop her combos and inputs and terrible neutral game. So that’s why I don’t consider Chun Li higher than A tier.

He's pretty easy to beat in neutral if ur character have solid fireball and uppercut

I am forced to main blanka atm. He is at the moment the most that suits my playstyle in the roster atm. I had to wait for alex in SFV, so I expect I will have to wait for season 2 or more in Sf6.
Though tbh Sf6 is kind of a weak game, drive rush spam is tedious and just too stupid so I dont play that much.
One annoying thing about playing blanka and i bet sims get it too, people often refuse to do a run back.
I have some good tech into conditioning the player with him though, he is all mind games with RB and BB, plus his leap through after drive rush can really condition the player to mess up the options. It turns drive rush into a 1 in 5 options, overhead, low, throw, grab or leap as well as when you are doing pressure you can condition them in one way ideally overheads so you can easily get his command grab in block strings. Of course more seasoned players will be able to punish this but with blanka chan you can make it a dangerous mix up.

Honestly, i believe blanka is a sleeper top 3. Blanka chan, OD DP wakeup combos in level 2 install, tons of ways to get out of the corner in burnout. He's simply a very very good character
He has a lot of options for sure but he's not as safe or easy to execute as anyone that even realistically contends for top 3. That's why you don't see him place consistently high in tournaments.
People be like "Dee Jay is OP" and little bud doesn't have the carry low forward like all the top 5
He doesn’t have an overhead or invincible level1. Jus cool overhead doesn’t count since it sucks lol.
