Omg! A XM in the US! Unbelievable. These are so cool. Wizard and Hoovie NEED to see this
If you find a CX or XM Break (Wagon) in the US I’ll freak out
There are examples of both here, especially the CX

When I lived in Europe during my youth, my friend owned one of these but with diesel engine. What a beast and comfortable ride. Always have good memories of these XMs.
Only Bob can sniff out the classics.
Good job Bob

Hello from Ireland again Bob. Jesus, we used to have loads of these XM's over here, but most are dead and gone. This XM is very nice Bob. They drive like bloody Rolls Royce's lol. And they are brilliant Motor Way Machines. Pure Comfort, and back when this was brand new, they had everything inside. It was like a Space Ship 🚀. Beautiful dash. Lovely buy Bob. Definitely worth a follow up, I can't wait to see what you think when you get behind that Wheel and drive her down the road. A proper treat 😋 👌. Thanks, Bob, Wicked video as always, Mate. 👌🥰👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
@@liamegan4303 thanks for watching and the fantastic comment!
I have lived in the South of France for the last 20 years and we don't often see many of these cool Citroens .....what a find!
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I've seen a few of these come up for sale in the U.S., but it's so rare. I look forward to seeing this one getting back on the road.
Me too! Thanks for watching and commenting!
My uncle had a Toronado Diesel. Charcoal grey with the same maroon interior. I thought it looked so good. Also envious about the XM. A high school friends family had IDs, DSs, and a Mahari. Troon fan for life.
Shop full of interesting projects, nice to have a wander around a US shop with stuff from our side of the pond.
Viewer from Finland. Always knew Bob found the best stuff, but this got me on board like nothing else. I'm a French car enthusiast and happen to own this cars sister model the Peugeot 605 (1997, 2.0L Turbo model), to which im trying to figure out the keycode since its sat for long enough for me to forget it. Also into American and British cars of similar vintage as often shown on this channel, I'm currently beginning the process of trying to put a 454 into a 91 Caprice Classic. Also own a 1974 Sunbeam Avenger (sold in the states as a Plymouth Cricket, a product of Chrysler of Europe), a bright yellow 1995 Renault Twingo Ragtop which might be getting sold soon, and my daily is a humdrum appliance on wheels 2015 Peugeot 208. This channel 100% is right up my alley and i dont know why i haven't subscribed earlier. Great stuff as always Bob.

The last Citroen I was interested in buying was in the late 1980's in Montgomery, AL at a used foreign car dealer. Of course, with Citroen, the first thing you do is look under the car to see what's leaking and there was a big pool of fluid under this one. I don't remember exactly but think it was a CX. Having ridden in a DS in Europe a long time ago I became a Citroen fan. The ride is like no other and no worries about seeing another one around (exclusive). Cool car.
I own its sister, the 605. They share the same plateform, citroen got the hydraus on top, obviously. Not the easiest of things to keep going, especially with the early hydractive in the case of this, but sure is a nice daily! If you need help I can provide a decent chunk of workshop manuals and tools.
Beware of the keypad, you can turn it off manually, but it may randomly come back, especially after battery was disconected for a while (May be your issue, though they bip to let you know normally). They will perma-lock your ECU until you get the right code, and if it's lost, good luck getting it (If it was never changed, you can contact a citroen dealership, if it was changed, good luck)
Though, while it's running you can permenatly deactivate it by unplugging the keyboard WHILE it's running, though never reconnect it!
have had 4 of these fantastic cars...well over a million kms done trouble free...when perfectly set up...one of the best cars ever built...would buy another tomorrow if i could..luckily have a 83 CX Pallas to glide along on perfect days....way ahead of its time
Cool! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Seeing updates on this will be great, I just bought one too!
I have had 2 Citroens . A 1961 DS 19. The one I have now is a 1974 GS 1220 Club.
Ooh love these!! My dad had one of these in the 90s. A manual in the same color. I had a silver one myself in college. Brilliant car! If it has the early diravi-steering you get the ultimate quirky citroen feel. The least you can do is try is to find one of the one spoke steering wheels from the early cars.
Great comfort when the hydraulics is taken care of. If you want a stupid, silly, soft and boaty ride you can change the corner spheres to CX-spheres. Fun, but will hit the bump stops if you’re not careful.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Never owned an XM but owned 2 CX's. 22TRS and 25GTI T2.
Think they were sold in the USA under CXA brand since regulations didn't allow the brand Citroën to sell its cars? Never knew they sold XM in the USA and know nothing about them apart that I wanted to own one but bought a Renault Safrane instead;) XM V6 exclusive can be nice with fully equipped interior!
Btw there is 2 versions of the log wheel base CX. The prestige you mentioned and the limousine which is same car but with the turbo diesel engine.
Love from the Netherlands. Nice find!
I had one years ago, great car and pretty depenable.greetings from the netherlands❤
I bought a 88 CX GTI Turbo 2 a couple years ago. Goal is to pull the engine this year and repair the bad head gasket and coolant leaking from the cylinder sleeve base gaskets. Super cool cars. Can’t wait tot get it back on the road.
*W116 450 SE Euro model* : Greetings from Europe. That car looked fantastic ! Oh how I'd like to cruise around central europe here in that !
I had a 1976 W116 450 SE. white with red leather interior. I miss that car.
Waiting for the Indianapolis 500 to start. Great find !!!

My dad had an XM in the early 90's. It was the top spec one he got for a huge discount because they weren't selling (I'm in England where they were on sale in showrooms).
Most "prestige" car he ever bought (No Citroen pun intended). An illusion that was soundly ruined as soon as the diesel powerplant under the bonnet seemingly lifted from a scissor lift was brought to life.
His best mate was still running a CX Safari at the time so I had a few journeys in that as a kid.
Good luck with this one Bob. They used to be relatively common over here in the UK, and like the CX before it it's a car I adore for being properly 'Citroen' (with all the good and bad that entails)!
Here in the uk I ran an XM for 4 years loved it not many left over here now
My neighbor has an Oldsmobile Toronado Diesel. It still runs! Not as nice as that one. Greetings from St Louis MO. I'm still driving my 1988 Alfa Romeo Milano! 200,300 miles!
un merci de France pour votre vidéo, c'est vraiment une tres belle voiture
@@malickndoye8126 I need a translator! Lol.
I reallu enjoy the vlogs, Bob! Great on you for saving this cool piece of history!

Since it's a series 1 V6, it's got the "Diravi" steering (same as the CX or SM - steering wheel automatically comes back to "center" position). On XMs it usually leaks or malfunctions after a decade or two, since the seals are too close to the exaust pipe. It's a pretty low mileage example, so it should be fine. But first, replace the LHM plus fluid, clean the two filters in the LHM tank and change all the spheres to new ones from Sphere Discount (the brand is IFHS). And from there you'll see if the hydraulics work properly.
Super cool vehicle

I used to have a Citroen C5 (the car that replaced the XM in 2001). Love that hydropneumatic suspension. I'm sure that Car Wizard will be interested in checking this one out...
Citroen's are amazing cars.....Thanks Bob and your wife Becky.....

Hey there! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I believe the Majestic also had different wheels. Love the XN. Thanks,
91 k km wow that's rare could sell for a high price here in europe. Thanks for rescuing her! Nice jags the shop owner has but I would pick the XM.😁
Road warriors!!! Another great content.

A company called CXAuto grey imported the XM (and previously the CX) into the States in the early 90s. It was featured on Motorweek and Jon Davis drove it with a sticker price of $50,000. Due to legalities they had to be sold without Citroen badges and company support. Doug DeMuro tested the contemporary Citroen Xantia Activa last year and was very impressed by it.
I have watched that episode several times!
I have 4 XM of this model. It called Phase one and was build in the beginnig of the 90's. Phase two is not nicer than the one
It was the first car in Europe i guess to have a computer inside.
You dont need to change the green spheres, you can inflate them again with nitrogene if the membrane inside is in good condition. You must to use Valprex valves.
XM Phase One had some reliabilty problems like bad electric door connectors, rust near the wheels, leaks of the LHM oil, headlight relay are burning cos chassis vibrations.
And the big one is the front suspension dome that can break if it's too old.
But it remains a magic car to drive, specialy if you have a sunroof.
Great couple!
Very nice! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Brilliant car! Watch out the suspension! Could be tricky...
I had one with same colour and wheels. Loved it, hope it doesn’t need a clutch ! It’s a pig apparently. Shares some engine bits with Peugeot 605
You’re a cool 80’s man Bob 😜 😉 😀
😎
Great car and nice movie 👍🏻😊
tales from the trip !!
Got to see the Citroen last night, it and the little Suzuki are both neat cars. Wish I could have looked at them a bit more in depth. It was good to meet you Bob. Sounds like you need some new shirts also, "Euroasian Bob, Different is Cool"
Thanks for stopping by!
Btw; this workshop contains heaps of valuables! Most hidden Gem might be the Tii Beemer. Pays $ 20' k + back in my Territory (Sweden) in a rough state...
The CX Prestige originally was a long wheelbase model. As far as I know the Prestige Turbo had the luxury trim but the standard short wheel base and was only available in the late 1980s facelift version. So my choice would be the proper LWB Prestige from the early years (but without the turbo).
Please force Tyler to take the XM for a drive. I just spotted it at Omega, in the back of his recent video
It's the ultimate euro land Yacht! Just make sure it's not stuck in sport mode.. and check your strut tops are good. (As the shocks pressurise, they can let go and literally pierce the bonnet.... Ask me how i know).
I had one of those, great cars. I Iike the funny touch of the plate : OVNI with means UFO in french
I didn’t know that. Cool!
There were several of these running around San Diego in 95 for the French team of the Americas Cup race
It was also nice to see the Morris Minor parked there, even though we only saw the rear end, are you going to try selling it to the Car Wizard to go with his DS. Greeting from England
As an owner of an SM, CX GTi Turbo2, XM estate and a C6 I have to agree, different is cool.. :) hehehe
Yes! Thanks for watching and commenting!
One of the last real nice Citroen....
What a cool car, and great shop.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Wowwwww thats an S1, i had an S2 (2.1 Diesel) and it drove up to 374666 mls😊
That guy knows his cars....
I could spend hours in that guy’s shop. Cool stuff.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Bel exemplaire! Je n'ai pas reussi a voir si c'était la version 24v ou 12v!
Elles se font de plus en plus rares, même en France...
On dirait une importation privee.
The Series Land Rover was registered on 31st May 1955 even older than me!
My dream Citroëns? The DS, the XM, and the Xantia...
...and yet, I'm American. These days, it is possible to bring in the latter two, so I'm keeping those dreams for either alive 😁
I’d almost sell my soul for a DS 23 Palas.
@@MYJ61The Pallas is a true thing of beauty. 💯
I believe that Burt Reynolds drove the Maserati/Citroen in the first ten minutes or so of "The Longest Yard"......
A HR Director in the big company I worked in had a top of the range XM as a company car. I had a meeting with him, and as we finished up I said I'd seen him in the car and asked what it was like to drive. He said "I have no need for a luxury car like that. But if the company wants to buy me a car that is that expensive, I won't turn it down. It was the best driving of the luxury sedans I test drove, so I told them to buy it for me".
That's Freaking RAD!!!!!!!!! Also, was thinking of the other one you have up for sale. But that is Still rad.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
I get the feeling that Bob would have left with more than one car if he had a bigger trailer....
I foresee a new tshirt for Bob: “Different is Cool” - Becky Cummings 😎
Love it! And TRUE!
There are so many more great Citroëns like the Traction Avant, the 2CV, the DS (maybe the most future car ever), the Ami 6, the Méhari, GS, Visa, AX, BX, Xantia and the C6. But the last real Citroën was probably the CX. The most famous german police detective on tv, Schimanski, was known for his moustache, his grey jacket and his CX. The XM is a great car almost bought one as a Diesel.
XM was designed by Bertone, actually that design those lines where created originally for a Lamborghini of early 80 that never end up being produced. Is a Citroen a new classic BUT with a Lamborghini design by Bertone.
Had one of these, in black. First gen dash as in this (gen 2 more bland). PRV 6 manual, but unfortunately not the leather. However; hydraulics were seriously fermented and ended up dumping it for pennies... But it was a Royal ride until it landed (and stayed) flat-on-the-ground. Since steering & brakes share the same hydraulics it's a true piece of work 🤨 Beware!
It's not the last true citroen, but the last good looking one. The last one is C5 X7, because you can't get newer ones with hydra pneumatic suspension.
If other 90's Citroens are to go by, the key pad would be a form of immobilizer. You had to enter the code to start the car.
No it isn’tCX is,this is Peugeot’s Citroen!
I've already wondered how there is no Citroen XM in the USA, and they can be imported a long time ago...Citroen CX, I think, was sold in the USA... When he takes him home, Bob organizes a quiz to find the back light blinkers...😂
The Peugeot 605, on which it is based, is also an interesting car
Bob, your quirk is definitely showing here since your top 3 Citroens don’t include the DS, ID, or 2CV!
Lol. I actually forgot one of my favorites. The Traction Avant.
to start...you have to enter the immobilizer code first...and then you can start. an excellent car... simple, reliable, quality and special.
The keypad shows green light so should be ready to fire right?
@@euroasianbob9268 the green screen shows if there are any errors. the code entry is in the center console...by the gear box.
@@kasparsgrinbergs6001 not the green screen by the dash. The keypad has a red and green little bulb indicator by buttons. Green is lit indicating not in security mode.
I irrationally want this thing!
I get it! Lol. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Congrats to this! The XM was a weird car even for us Europeans, it's a "comfort cube". Wish Citroen still did weird but superiorly comfy cars like this today.
These are rare even in France - they were really, really expensive.
Really? Hmm. Interesting.
Thanks for sharing.
A French Lowrider, neat stance
Thanks for watching and commenting!
There is no last true Citroen as the company is still exists and keep making futuristic cars.
I own one Y3 V6.24V ❤
I have a Citroen XM in Maine
@@SuperNymphea nice!
@@euroasianbob9268 I import cars and have several french cars right now as well Renault 5 as well
i want a ds
Did you actually enter the code in the center middle console to start it?
It’s currently green and unlocked luckily. I don’t have the code.
Do you like the F150 more than the Dodge Ram?
The F150 is quieter and more comfortable than the older Ram Diesel.
Glad it's you and not me. Toronado is crazy man. Hold on to your wallet.
👍🏻🏴🇬🇧
If you need a 1980 CX turbodiesel limousine (prestige diesel) hit me up :-)
By last true Citroen do you mean the last one with balls. Suspension component that is.
Yes, and the Diravi steering.
Sell this car to Hoovie!
Hoovie bought a DS and immediately flipped it to the Car Wizard so I doubt he'd be interested.
How can you manage to pronounce all 3 French manufacturers wrong
oh, no.. not an xm... if you think the DS was strange... then this is an encyclopedia strange... go out now and BUY MANUALS... seriously... these are not easy cars...
Hello from France 🇫🇷. Good luck with that one Bob 😅.
A Friend of mine had one (diesel) : always broken. Dumped it, bought a Mazda instead.
Xm are extremely rare even in France because of a terrible reliability and very expensive to maintain. BUT it's one of the last true "big" Citroën. Last one will be the C6 that was a market failure but a wonderful car. Try to find one in 5 years 😉.
Nonsense.
@@MauiWauiPineappleExpress yeah. Whatever
Not so costly if you can repair by your own.
