5:25 Fun Fact: The white line is actually a rip in the time-space continuum. This rip caused video game characters such as Kirby, Link, Marth, Luigi, Samus, Sonic, and others to start teleporting to other video game universes for brief periods of time. While they would return back to their home worlds shortly after, the random teleportations continued, and brought confusion and chaos to all the universes affected. Masahiro Sakurai discovered this from our world, and sealed the rip in the time-space continuum. He then used the previous horror as inspiration for the soon-to-be best-seller Super Smash Bros. Fun Fact: This probably isn't true.
Episode 27: Super Mario Bros Glitch Picnic! Well, I finally got round to updating the Super Mario Bros Glitch Picnic! Most of you guys have seen the first one... This is a well deserved update I'm sure you'll all agree! Anyways, there was a couple of problems when it came to rendering the video which is why it's a little late, but meh, here it is! So I hope you all enjoy :D
MikeyTaylorGaming Yay I cant wait ^-^ and just take your time if the game is too big O: A delayed Video is eventually good, but a rushed Video is forever bad you know :)
the minus world is actually world 36 (there are 255 world's including the normal 8). the game has the warp zone in world 4 loaded, which has one pipe in the middle that goes to world 5 the spaces to the left and right are put as 36, which is a blank space in the game (which is why there is no number for the world; the minus is actually a dash).
also, the second vine glitch you talk about doesn't have to be in hard mode to work, but you won't beagle to do infinite lives in normal mode (as there are goombas instead of buzzy beetles.
Little fix. The warp zone is loaded as the default warp zone (Over the pipe exit of 4-2) since the screen hasn't scrolled far enough. This loads all warp zone data tables for 4-2. If you could see where every pipe goes to, the side pipes go to -1 (36-1). The middle pipe warps to 5-1 (5-2 is not on this lookup table). Tile 36 is an intentional blank space used for the underground 4-2 warp zone text since it only has 1 intended warp (to 5-1). However, this also creates the glitch level 36-1. Since tile 36 is the blank tile, it pops up as "-1" instead of 36-1. The pipe at the end of this level loops back to the beginning since this level isn't any part of the intended worlds. Therefore, the pipe transition out of the pipe at the end of 1-1 isn't executed and Mario comes out of a false pipe at the beginning of the level. The reason 36-1 is a glitch copy of 7-2 involves a lot of hexadecimals and lookup tables but in the end, it loads a level outside of the warp lookup table an that level happens to be 7-2. World 36 on the Famicom Disk System (not the Famicom AV) loads a different level and it is 1-3. Because of this, 36-1 on the FDS can be completed and Mario takes on world 36-2. 36-2 is a glitch copy of 7-3 with the only thing out of the ordinary being the random checkpoint in this glitch copy. World 36-3 on the FDS is a glitch copy of 4-4 with an underground setting and lots of bloopers. The maze elements here don't work properly and you better take the right path or else Mario will be trapped somewhere in the level. There is no Bowser at the end of this level but when you hit the axe, Mario goes on to talk to an invisible copy of the princess (not an invisible copy of toad). This confuses the game into thinking that you have completed 8-4. Therefore, you get sent to the title screen and when you start the game again, you get presented with hard mode. Meanwhile, if you place a flag in 36-1 on the NES or the Famicom AV, you get sent to a different 36-2 which is an underwater version of 3-4. There isn't any Bowsers in this level. When you hit the axe, Mario (once again) talks to an invisible copy of the princess and the game thinks you've beaten 8-4. This also takes you back to the title screen and it also enables hard mode.
The big small Mario reversal is sweet. The reason shooting fire makes him flash is that it is using his shoot fire animation is only as big fire mario then that animation ends and goes back to how it was
I think scykoh ran out of glitches or just got bored. Either way he should really start uploading again...after all he still does on his scykohplays...
Small fire mario becomes big for a second when firing because theres no sprite with small mario's hand up shooting a fireball. So when you shoot a fireball, the code calls the "shooting fireball" sprite, which only exists as big mario.
4:00 The reason is pretty damn simple : When Mario shoots a fire ball the game searches for the "Fire Mario Shooting Fire Ball" sprite. The program that searches it was probably developed by the game developers thinking Mario never would be in the Small Fire Mario state; so it is applied when Mario is Fire Mario not specifying if it is "Super Fire Mario" or "Small Fire Mario"; so the condition for the program to apply is "If Mario's power up state is Fire Mario"; in this case he was Fire Mario, so he game searches for the normal "Fire Mario Shooting Fire Ball" as it was written in the code. NOTE : The reason why there still is a "Small Fire Mario" sprite is simply because the Fireflower's effect is to change Mario's color palette (Brown-Brown-Red-Yellow to White-Red-Red-Yellow or something) and to give Mario the ability to shoot Fireballs. I think "Fire Mario Shooting Fire Ball" is an independent sprite that is not being made from a color palette change; but if I'm wrong tell me. THESE ARE ALL PERSONAL ASSUMPTIONS
+Gravekeeper Thetys Theres a comment near the bottom by David Ward that tries to clear up the whole detail about the glitch, we've had a small discussion and what we've come up with seems to make sense :)
I DIDN'T MISS THIS ONE!!!!! Thank Gandhi too cuz this was so awesome! A throwback to the old days of Glitch Picnic, revamped and updated, and I gotta say the improvements really show! You've come a long way bro, never stop glitching!
+deathconceal1 Thanks a lot bro! I'm glad you made it to this one ;D I appreciate that too, it's definitely an upgrade, hoping to try get more done in this style but the next game is gonna be a looooong one, so might have to just be straight rather than adding skits to get it out on time! :P
I'll ALWAYS make it to the picnic man, so always keep a spot on the blanket open for me XD but seriously it's crazy remembering back to december 2014 seeing your Crash Bandicoot GP and thinking "Man these vids are awesome! There's no way these could get better!", and now a year and a half later you stepped it up! Ultra thumbs up to you man
2:23 When I got my first fire flower, I just thought he changed into a suit... I didn't know how to sprint then, so I didn't use the button. I never realized he could shoot fireballs until I spammed buttons.. Good times
The same glitch with the Minus World pipe will produce different results in JPN/CERO/FDS/FDD versions of Super Mario Brothers, as it will make three Minus World levels appear instead of just one. The first level is an underwater version of World 1-3, with the platforms in weird colors, different enemy placements, including possibly an underwater version of Bowser, and Princess Peach floating for some weird reason in a few spots on the level. The second one is just World 7-3 with the screen indicating that it is World -2 instead of World 7-3 as it normally does, and it can also be beaten the same way. The third, and final, level, is simply an underground version of World 4-4. Additionally, this is technically the first Mario game to feature flying Bloobers/Bloopers, and, yes, the ones that are here also can die with a 1000 points stomp to the head. Strangely enough, there is no Bowser to fight here. However, as for whether the left and right pipes lead to the Minus World and the middle pipe leads to World 5 in this version of Super Mario Brothers, I do not know the answer, but, most likely, the way to get things done that way is the same in all 8-bit versions of Super Mario Brothers, with the exception of Super Mario Brothers DX Deluxe. Finally, the strangest thing is that this trick is technically the second way to earn a World Select in Super Mario Brothers, MikeyTaylorGaming.
There is an additional way to escape the Minus World, MikeyTaylorGaming. Apparently, around 2015 or so, possibly sooner, some people figured out that, if you touch a Bloober/Blooper at the same time that you touch a Cheep Cheep, regardless of them being Pink or Red, when you are Small Mario, you will die, but you will also have another added thing happen to you, namely, that you will be sent back to World 1-2.
There is an explanation for the blue Bowser glitch. Bowser and the axe happened to be linked together. For some reason, the axe gives Bowser his green color. If you take this axe away or have Bowser spawn with the axe spawning as well, Bowser will have his original color. This happens to be blue. Fun fact: Bowser's blue form was used as an intentional sprite in Super Mario Bros. 2 for the Famicom Disk System.
Here's my best guess as to how the 'small fire Mario' glitch works. From what I can tell, there are 3 values used with powerups: Mario's size, Mario's palette, and Mario's powerup 'level'. The glitch seems to stem from the fact that Mario's powerup level goes down immediately after being hit by Bowser, but the size value doesn't change for some reason. Perhaps it doesn't change immediately? Whatever the reason, this makes Mario's size and power count out of sync. Mario's power count is currently at its lowest (which for simplicity's sake I'll call 01). This means that he'll get Mushrooms from item blocks. Here's where my theory comes in: Mushrooms just tell the game to add one to both his size value, and his power value. I suspect the size value uses a single bit, meaning that gaining a mushroom causes you to go from 1 (big) to 0 (small). Meanwhile your power value increases to 10. This means that Fire Flowers will spawn from item blocks. Now I believe Fire Flowers tell the game to add one to your palette and your power. So Mario's sprite becomes a small Mario with the Fire Flower palette, but with maximum power (11). Then there's the matter of how getting hit works. Well, I'd imagine that the game checks to see what power level you're at, then chooses to lower either your size or palette value depending on it. So if you were at a power of 11, getting hit would change your palette, whereas getting hit at 10 would change your size. And of course, getting hit at 01 still kills you. ;) EDIT: Mikey's reply reminded me that being hit in either Super or Fire Mario state reverts you to small Mario. This has caused me to completely rethink how getting hit with the glitch would work. If the game merely sets you to be the parameters of small Mario, then the glitch should cancel when you get hit. If it doesn't, then getting hit should work similarly to how I describe here, only with both your palette and size changing at a power of 11, instead of just your palette - in other words, small Fire Mario being hit would become Super Mario. Apologies for complications. If I can find information on what happens when you get hit in the glitch I'll rewrite this paragraph. My apologies :( Now the only thing remaining is the reason he becomes big temporarily when shooting fireballs. This can be easily explained: the sprite used for that is a set one - after all, it's not like they would expect you to be small and shooting fireballs, and it would likely save space on the cartridge to do it this way rather than it be variable. So yes, that's my theory on how the glitch works. The only thing I'm not sure about is the initial set up. What exactly about it causes it to register the drop in power, but not in size? Does a similar thing happen with the palette if you get hit when you're Fire Flower Mario? These are questions I cannot answer. Sorry :(
+David Ward Wow, the detail you've gone into here is great! it's good to see people taking an actual interest and thinking about the glitches for themselves too, that's ace. The initial set up you're talking about, it's possible that the Size Change and 'Level' and Palette are not all changed on the same frame that you take damage. So when you defeat Bowser and take a hit you've reverted Power level and Palette, but finished the level so the third frame giving the instruction to change size isn't given! E.G. Normal Circumstance Damage Frame 1 - Revert Power Level to 0 Damage Frame 2 - Revert Palette to 0 Damage Frame 3 - Revert Size to 0 Glitch Circumstance Damage Frame 1 - Revert Power Level to 0 Damage Frame 2 - Revert Palette to 0 Bowser Defeated - End Level + Stop all other Functions In the second circumstance, the 3rd Damage Frame isn't able to be triggered so keeps the size at 01 :) Just a theory, maybe you'll agree or not but it seems to make a little sense at least!
MikeyTaylorGaming Haha, thanks! i really like thinking about the causes of glitches - it's interesting to see exactly where the problem lies. Heck, by looking for the root of one glitch, you might be able to discover another. :) As for your suggestion, that definitely seems to be the most likely solution. It could be tested if there is another way to interrupt the change. Perhaps getting a powerup immediately after being damaged? Also, this explanation can explain why it doesn't occur in the EU version: they put the size changing function on the same frame as the others. If it's all on the same frame, the glitch cannot occur. (Also, whoops. I completely forgot that getting hit as Fire Flower Mario puts you right back down to regular Mario in SMB1. I'll quickly mend my explanation to account for that. Sorry, its been a whilst since I played it :\ ) I'd be interested to know if getting hit whilst you're in the glitched state cancels the glitch, or puts you back up to super Mario size. If the former, then that means it sets Mario's size to small when he gets hit (just like it sets his power level to minimum). If the latter, that means it just subtracts 1. Finally, something I noticed when rewatching the video; at about 4:07, you can see that the glitched small Fire Mario can't break bricks. That means that the ability to break bricks must be tied to size, rather than power. That's pretty interesting. ;) Apologies for the text walls. I like to be thorough. :D
There will be a way to check these things. Especially using an Emulator and TAS Methods. Doing things frame by frame on a TAS you can look up hex values relationg to size power and palette and check what happens on each frame to find out what's going on. Actually, I have a sub called Oblivion Walker who does a LOT of tests to find out why Glitches work, it's quite impressive if you wanna check out his channel, the descriptions give the explanations though, hopefully he sees this comment string and can test it out! :) th-cam.com/channels/_fN7MYhMGLbzhMiWlvkwPQ.html I can clarify for you that if you get a mushroom turning you into small Mario, then get hit by an enemy you revert to large Mario again! The glitch doesn't end until you die :) And yeah I actually had to change the script, I thought that he'd be able to break blocks as small Mario and was surprised to see that he can't! hahaha
I find that the timing for the one-foot sliding glitch is much easier when you emerge from a pipe. Just press A to jump before he finishes coming out and keep holding it. Mario will jump as soon as he finishes emerging. Then shoot a fireball before he lands and keep holding B. Then you don't need to keep holding A. Just keep holding B and Mario will slide around on one foot for several seconds. You can jump as many times as you want during the slide period.
There is a use for the power-up double jump glitch. In 5-4 theres that really long fire gate with the ?-block above it, and if you time the double jump right you can get the mushroom without getting hit by the fire gate
Glitch 17: World 5 Warp Carry out the steps of the Minus World glitch, but enter the 3 pipe instead of 4. This was shown in the video, but it takes you to 5-1. That's farther than the regular warp!
Ahaha a couple of people said that! The hair is gonna be staying for a while don't worry :P And thanks for the support! I'm glad you like the remake :)
Theory for white line from Bullet Bill: You just passed some lift platforms, so maybe there was a lift there at some point, but got removed and the white line/Bullet Bill getting stuck is just leftover....
+Leigh Atkinson Ahahaha I'm glad you appreciate the hair :P I'll never have it all cut off, but there will come a time when it'll be cut a little shorter ;D
MikeyTaylorGaming, In World 8-4, World 9-3, and World D-4 of sMB2J, this glitch is made into an actual Bowser variant. The same thing holds true for World D-4 in All Night Nippon Super Mario Brothers because Worlds a through D are, more or less, rips of those same Worlds from SMB2J.
Great video mikey! (well, at least the first 3 minutes that i've seen so far haha, but this video looks so much more detailed than the original, so i'm sure the rest of the video will be just as good :) )
Love it. Ya know i love Mario glitch videos but originals are the best. An extra like ;)!. Your videos are getting better and your videos are my favorites. Keep going!
+YaIrLaGames Oh why thank you ! And Hi again :) I'm glad they're your favourites, that means a lot :) I'm sorry I didn't ask a question for your video by the way, I just couldn't think of one, I'm no good at that kind of thing :( I have a Question and Answer Video coming up for 25,000 subscribers if you wanna ask me something though! :)
Of course i will leave a question behind. How long does your channel excist. And i know a question for me, but i will say your name by it😉: how old are you? That can you do as a question. Just a tip. I love that sort questions. Is that a good question for me? I think so!! 😂. Hope you like my question and my question for me. Good luck with making videos! P.s. I told my whole class over you 😉😉😝
+MikeyTaylorGaming hey! I'll make the Q&A today, so i will do the question that i suggested. If you read this, the change is that the Q&A has been uploaded. Now you know it, i'm ready for the Q&A!! P.S. The video is Dutch. When your question comes, it will be translated. -YaIrLaGames
Very nice! Though I'm surprised you didn't mention a more obscure glitch known as the "double death". Die to a Hammer Brother in World 5-2 and pause RIGHT as the Hammer brother gets you with his hammer. Unpause, then pause and unpause right as Mario falls off the screen and the game will replay the death music when the Hammer Brother tosses another hammer at the exact pixel you died to him at.
I found this channel awhile ago and had a marathon watching almost all your glitch picnics, very good, quality content and your soothing voice is so fitting to the videos, it's nice to listen to you talk and explain things. You deserve more subs! I came up with questions too: =D 1. What do you think of Rum(My personal favorite =D) , especially spiced, in drinks(like with good old coca -cola) or straight? Or do you even drink much/at all? 2. I've been in England myself, beautiful country! What is your favorite sightseeing place in London as an englishman? 3. Do you have any interest making a glitch picnic from a RTS - game, like Age of Empires II or similar? 4. How much research you had to do to your Super Mario 64 Glitch Picnic? How long it took to repeat the glitches and make the episode? Keep up with the epic content! ;) Greetings from Finland!
+KnightNike Well thank you! I appreciate the support and the questions :) RTS meaning Real Time Strategy right? That's one question I might have to answer here to save myself embarassment hahaha I've never been a fan or really played RTS games, I'm more of a Turn Based Strategy man. Even then I've really only played the FF Tactics games! The other questions I'll be able to answer just fine! I'll have to get round to checking through all the comments tomorrow and saving the questions so I don't lose them forever! hahahaha
Here’s a pointless glitch. The areas just before the underground warp zones have scroll locks that prevent the screen from moving past the up pipe unless your up in the hud. It’s supposed to hide the warp zones. The invisible triggers are there and an internal variable does get set, but the code is broken and the screen scrolls anyway hinting there’s something beyond. I guess the play testers never noticed, considering most people just go up the pipe without a second thought.
Technically, there IS something beyond the flagpole if you jump over it, only, you can't access it unless you turn off or pause the timer. In normal gameplay, you'll run out of time before you get to reach it, but if you turn off the timer, you can run into a glitched area, with tiles and assets from the game. If you watch Shesez's Super Mario Bros/Duck Hunt Boundary Break episode, you'll see what I mean.
Bowser looks Blue cause Miyamoto drew Bowser Blue and Nintendo replaces him green but yes, your triggers do make sense but the colour one is "Set To BT2"
The one thing that I have consecutively disliked about the newer Mario games is the change in how power-ups affect the damage. Most of the original's difficulty comes from the fact that after taking damage with a Fire Flower, you revert back to small; you don't get two chances. Granted it's nice to have more than one chance not to die, but I feel like the game was glossed over to assist people who thought it was too hard. (Haha?) But, who am I to pass any judgement.
Technically, the Minus World is World 36, but as there is no Sprite for the number 36, it's shown as a blank space. There are lots of other minus worlds, if you either hack in a flagpole or follow some really complicated steps on the Famicom version.
There should theoretically be 256 levels. Level '0' would be the first on the counter, so if you could access level 0 then there would be levels 0 - 255, making up 256 levels! :)
5:25 It looks like a separate texture is being used to replace the score texture. It appears to be the same texture as the one on the seesaw platforms.
For the past the flag glitch, modding it so there's infinite time, there will be really glitched out tiles after a while. You get half hill half Bush tile, all sorts.
I'm pretty sure for the vine glitch it is because mario's x position is stored in one byte and when he goes out it had no choice but to underflow and make it 255 again
The World -1 is called tecnically "World 36-1" (I don't know why), but since you can't go over 9, the World number is hidden. Also, there's a game (Super Mario Deluxe, I think) in which a parody of the World -1 is hidden programmed, enabling you even a World -2 and a World -3.
+Hikaru Starn No need to be scared! If you've seen the comments down here then you know I'm friendly :P Thanks for watching for so long, it's nice to know you guys stick with me for all that time!
+MikeyTaylorGaming Oh yus, every now and then I check your channel and when I see you posted something new I get super happy and take a nice long seat haha! Thanks for responding, makes me feel much better ;u; keep up the good work!! you'll probably see me in the comments more often now haha
Ah that's great to know :) And it's okay, I like to talk to you guys when I get the chance, without you I wouldn't keep on making videos! :) See you in a Comments section soon!
3:59 That happens because the game sets Mario's sprite to the "shooting fireball" sprite for a small moment when you press the run button while in the fire Mario state, but there is only a "shooting fireball" sprite for big Mario because the player was not intended to be smal andl fire Mario. Trust me, I'm a future game developer. :p
+Canica Lopez Yuppp! One of the first comments in this video we had a discussion about this, and went into why exactly we think this glitch happens in the first place :) You should have a quick scan through to find it and let us know if we're right!
8:51 Wrong, the reason the minus world exist is because there is a warp zone address (0 means no warp zone, 1 means 4-2 underground warp zone, 2 means 1-2 warp zone, 3 means 4-2 overworld warp zone) that is set to 0 and gets incremented by scroll lock objects (that don't lock the scroll of the screen). in 1-2 when you load the first pipe you also load a scroll lock object, which loads the 4-2 underground warp zone (notice how the overworld exit areas of 1-2 and 4-2 are identical) but if you go to the warp zone you load another scroll lock object when you load the text "WELCOME TO WARP ZONE!" , which sets the warp zone to the 1-2 warp zone. but if you glitch through the wall then you access the warp zone before loading the scroll lock object, that's how you access the 4-2 warp zone from 1-2, but how do you get to the minus world? Well the super mario bros font has tile 0x36 as a blank space, and you may notice the 4-2 warp zone is the only warp zone containing one pipe, but the text always loads three world numbers, so tile 36 is used to fill in the blank spots, but 1-2 has all three pipes, allowing you to go to world 36, and because tile 36 is a blank space, you go to world " -1".
@MikeTaylorGaming: You forgot one glitch, it was another glitch done the same way as when you reverse the power-up state, Super mario his small mario, so if you hit bowser and the Axe at the same time as small mario, this will cause no mario to rescue the toad, or princess, but if you do that while rescue a toad, it will sound like you die twice, but after finishing no one his rescue toad, you life count would not have drop one number.
No, -1 is world 27 the default warps are the second ones and the left and right pipes are not supposed to be there and so they made it a blank and for smb 27 is a blank space
the reason that its the big sprit when you shot a fireball is all a fireflower does is give mario a palette swap so small mario can get the palette swap but there is no srite for small mario shoting a fireball so the game youses the big sprite instede
+Griffith “mrpipe600” Jones Yeah man! Ahaha I didn't really go in depth in the first video which is why I decided to come back to Mario 1. Having 5 Games in one video like I did back then was such a bad idea... it only gave me like 4 or 5 minutes to show stuff off!
I've never seen the blue Bowser glitch before. His palette seems to be taken from the Piranha Plants. Also, your old videos aren't terrible! Don't be to harsh on yourself :)
+mario64remix Well, to be honest the first Mario video wasn't too bad, there was just no focus or direction on a single game, so each one was kinda rushed! Taken a lot of time with this one and it's turned out great :) I'm glad you've seen something new too! Most people have seen a lot of the Mario Bros Glitches before so with something as popular as this it's great to see people learning new stuff :D Thanks for watching as always!
when you shoot fireballs as small fire mario it switches to big bc there is no sprite that was made for small mario shooting fireballs, so it shows big mario for that frame
I think that Okami may have some glitches in it, BUT, it's not a game I've ever played. At the moment I'm trying to stick to games that I'm familiar with so that I can record and release videos once a month as you know! If I had to play through a whole game that I didn't know, it could take a while longer to release videos which sucks :(
World -1 is Nintendo's take on the Sisyphus myth. You will be doomed to repeat the task over and over again for all eternity because you have sinned against the Nintendo gods!
The reason Small Fire Mario turns into big fire mario when he shoots fireballs is because small mario is never supposed to be able to shoot fire balls thereby he has no fire shooting animation only big fire mario does so he uses his fire animation.

Fun Fact:
The white line is actually a rip in the time-space continuum. This rip caused video game characters such as Kirby, Link, Marth, Luigi, Samus, Sonic, and others to start teleporting to other video game universes for brief periods of time. Fun Fact: This probably isn't true.
+IrkenGiratinaDuck fun fact, this is probably one of my favourite comments on my channel, so congratulations hahahahaha!
MikeyTaylorGaming Lol, thanks dude!
+MikeyTaylorGaming Im really enyoing your videos keep up the good work ^-^
Thank you so much! I hope the next one comes out in time... I know the game it's just gonna take forever because it's huge :(
MikeyTaylorGaming Yay I cant wait ^-^ and just take your time if the game is too big O: A delayed Video is eventually good, but a rushed Video is forever bad you know :)
***** Nooooope! :P
Great video, this is a huge improvement over your old one! I really liked how much more structure you had and how well you explained everything!
the minus world is actually world 36 (there are 255 world's including the normal 8). the game has the warp zone in world 4 loaded, which has one pipe in the middle that goes to world 5 the spaces to the left and right are put as 36, which is a blank space in the game (which is why there is no number for the world; the minus is actually a dash).
also, the second vine glitch you talk about doesn't have to be in hard mode to work, but you won't beagle to do infinite lives in normal mode (as there are goombas instead of buzzy beetles.
+Joel Graber yup, I've mentioned in the comments previously haha
The reason shooting fire makes him flash is that it is using his shoot fire animation is only as big fire mario then that animation ends and goes back to how it was
Yesss, A+Start and Mikey in one day 😁 Scykoh needs to get his shit together and upload today, ad the holy glitch trinity will be complete
I think scykoh ran out of glitches or just got bored. Either way he should really start uploading again...after all he still does on his scykohplays...
+James Lewis Ahahahaha I wish I could do a collab with those guys, or even just one of them!
I actually love hearing the technical explanations as for why the glitches happens. Maybe it's because I have an interest in programming?
+Alex Jones Maybe! I like to try and explain where possible, but there's sometimes things shown off that are just so difficult to explain...
Small fire mario becomes big for a second when firing because theres no sprite with small mario's hand up shooting a fireball. So when you shoot a fireball, the code calls the "shooting fireball" sprite, which only exists as big mario.
Relating secret world 4 to missing no in Pokémon really spoke to me on a deep level👏🏻
Guys! I will be doing a Q&A for 25,000 subs! Please leave questions in the comments or as a reply to this one :D Thanks and see you all soon!
1. Why did you start this Channel? 2. Did anyone inspire you?
1. What game originally inspired you to do glitches?
2. What is your favorite glitch in videogame history?
What is your favourite game series?
Favourite piece of video game music?
Excellent questions guys, happy to answer these soon! :D
+MikeyTaylorGaming What was your first console/game you ever owned
Oh ok. Gonna check that.
Not as good as the original ;)
just kidding haha great video as always my dude!
PS, is 'not to 60' something they say across the pond? xD
"nought to sixty" usually in reference to the time a car takes to accelerate from 0 miles per hour to sixty miles per hour. :)
+x yz haha I figured xD here we say "zero to sixty" I just never heard it like that!
+TetraBitGaming +xyz Is right, it must be more of a British thing! I didn't realise, I thought it was universal XD
Ultra thumbs up to you man
Thank you, you guys who have been here since the 1000 sub mark have a special place, without your support I'd have stopped ages ago!
MikeyTaylorGaming 1K crew! Here's to 25K man, you deserve it ^^
2:23 When I got my first fire flower, I just thought he changed into a suit...
My apologies :(
Now the only thing remaining is the reason he becomes big temporarily when shooting fireballs.
E.G.
Normal Circumstance
Damage Frame 1 - Revert Power Level to 0
Damage Frame 2 - Revert Palette to 0
Damage Frame 3 - Revert Size to 0
Glitch Circumstance
Damage Frame 1 - Revert Power Level to 0
Damage Frame 2 - Revert Palette to 0
Bowser Defeated - End Level + Stop all other Functions
In the second circumstance, the 3rd Damage Frame isn't able to be triggered so keeps the size at 01 :) Just a theory, maybe you'll agree or not but it seems to make a little sense at least!
MikeyTaylorGaming Haha, thanks! i really like thinking about the causes of glitches - it's interesting to see exactly where the problem lies. Heck, by looking for the root of one glitch, you might be able to discover another. :)
As for your suggestion, that definitely seems to be the most likely solution.
Sorry, its been a whilst since I played it :\ )
I'd be interested to know if getting hit whilst you're in the glitched state cancels the glitch, or puts you back up to super Mario size.
That's pretty interesting. ;)
Apologies for the text walls.
th-cam.com/channels/_fN7MYhMGLbzhMiWlvkwPQ.html
I can clarify for you that if you get a mushroom turning you into small Mario, then get hit by an enemy you revert to large Mario again! The glitch doesn't end until you die :)
And yeah I actually had to change the script, I thought that he'd be able to break blocks as small Mario and was surprised to see that he can't!
Been waiting for this one! didn't realize you did it already!
Also, nice haircut :P
+dj505Gaming Yeah but it was back in the beginning so it's nothing to write home about! Glad you enjoyed and thanks for the compliment ;D
There is a use for the power-up double jump glitch. In 5-4 theres that really long fire gate with the ?-block above it, and if you time the double jump right you can get the mushroom without getting hit by the fire gate
Glitch 17: World 5 Warp
Carry out the steps of the Minus World glitch, but enter the 3 pipe instead of 4.
This was shown in the video, but it takes you to 5-1.
That's farther than the regular warp!
Why don't you have 1.000.000 subscribers yet? You put a lot of work into your videos!
+ItsThymo I dunno :( but it's fine! There's so many of you guys now, the Channel is still growing slowly but eventually it'll be where I want it to be
Oh my god, yes you and A+Start uploaded on the same day XD How much better can this get lol
+Hyper Pika Girl What a Lucky Coincidence! :P
Hair...hair...help me god.......
In all seriousness, this is a HUGE improvement
+Wizzkidwas I know right! I'm glad you think so :) Took enough time to get the edit right so I hope so anyways XD
The whole "Minus World" Glitch reminds me of that episode of Super Mario Bros. Z when Mario and Sonic are stuck in the Minus World-
Very nice remake! omg for like 4 seconds at the beginning I thought you cut off all your hair and I got sad. It looks awesome!
Ahaha a couple of people said that! The hair is gonna be staying for a while don't worry :P And thanks for the support! I'm glad you like the remake :)
Another epic episode of Glitch Picnic! :D
+NolanDaHunter Thanks dude :D
No problem! It was an awesome episode!
Theory for white line from Bullet Bill:
You just passed some lift platforms, so maybe there was a lift there at some point, but got removed and the white line/Bullet Bill getting stuck is just leftover....
for a second I panicked because I thought you cut off all that beautiful hair before I realized it was just up in a ponytail xD
+Leigh Atkinson Ahahaha I'm glad you appreciate the hair :P I'll never have it all cut off, but there will come a time when it'll be cut a little shorter ;D
You deserve more subs!
+Martijn de Bont Thank you :D
MikeyTaylorGaming, In World 8-4, World 9-3, and World D-4 of sMB2J, this glitch is made into an actual Bowser variant. The same thing holds true for World D-4 in All Night Nippon Super Mario Brothers because Worlds a through D are, more or less, rips of those same Worlds from SMB2J.
Great video mikey! (well, at least the first 3 minutes that i've seen so far haha, but this video looks so much more detailed than the original, so i'm sure the rest of the video will be just as good :) )
+Scott R Thanks bro! It's taken forever like you've seen on Twitter, but it was totally worth it for the final outcome :) hope you enjoyed the rest!
+MikeyTaylorGaming yeah, probably the best Glitch picnic so far, definitely worth the wait :)
The star one is because after it runs out of juice it plays the ground music like its supposed to
Using the double jump saved me a bunch during falling mushrooms
Love it. Ya know i love Mario glitch videos but originals are the best. An extra like ;)!. Your videos are getting better and your videos are my favorites. Keep going!
+YaIrLaGames Oh why thank you ! And Hi again :) I'm glad they're your favourites, that means a lot :) I'm sorry I didn't ask a question for your video by the way, I just couldn't think of one, I'm no good at that kind of thing :(
I have a Question and Answer Video coming up for 25,000 subscribers if you wanna ask me something though!
I came up with questions too: =D
Keep up with the epic content! ;)
Greetings from Finland!
+KnightNike Well thank you! I appreciate the support and the questions :)
RTS meaning Real Time Strategy right? That's one question I might have to answer here to save myself embarassment hahaha I've never been a fan or really played RTS games, I'm more of a Turn Based Strategy man. Even then I've really only played the FF Tactics games!
The other questions I'll be able to answer just fine! I'll have to get round to checking through all the comments tomorrow and saving the questions so I don't lose them forever! hahahaha
Also, Finland?! Awesome!
If you ever happen to find yourself here, we can go to a bar with the local polar bears. The north welcomes you with open arms. =D
Good choice of game and nice edits ! It gets better and better :D
+Cassgeul Thanks bro! The next one might not be as hard edited, more straightforward Glitch Showcasing as the game is huge and full of Glitches! :P
MikeyTaylorGaming Ah ! Can't wait to see that next game ! :P
Loved the video, man. Just felt the need to say that
+JellyZ I appreciate that you said it, it means a lot :)
James Rolfe and Kevin Finn have definitely been at work here LOL :)
Oh you know it!
Yeah it'll be a memory overflow probably. I didn't include it due to not being able to access without cheating :)
Ahh, I see.
You can also do the same thing to the Buzzy Beetle as you can to the Green Koopa Troopa in World 1-1 if you already beat SMB, MikeyTaylorGaming.
the inf lives glitch is actually a feature
Bowser looks Blue cause Miyamoto drew Bowser Blue and Nintendo replaces him green but yes, your triggers do make sense but the colour one is "Set To BT2"
Appreciate the work man, fun video
+TheCinemaphobic Thanks a lot! I'm glad you enjoyed :D
Ooh! Another great video Mikey!
+THO games Thanks bro! For watching every video I ever release :P That means a lot!
Finally another video :D
+Geometry Dash haoN Aiming for one a month! this was a day late XD My bad hahah!
LOVE The Time Card
The one thing that I have consecutively disliked about the newer Mario games is the change in how power-ups affect the damage. Most of the original's difficulty comes from the fact that after taking damage with a Fire Flower, you revert back to small; you don't get two chances. Granted it's nice to have more than one chance not to die, but I feel like the game was glossed over to assist people who thought it was too hard. (Haha?)
But, who am I to pass any judgement.
Technically, the Minus World is World 36, but as there is no Sprite for the number 36, it's shown as a blank space. There are lots of other minus worlds, if you either hack in a flagpole or follow some really complicated steps on the Famicom version.
There's 256 levels, right..?
+TheChoroQ I'm not sure.
Ethan Rainach Hmmm...
There should theoretically be 256 levels. Level '0' would be the first on the counter, so if you could access level 0 then there would be levels 0 - 255, making up 256 levels! :)
+MikeyTaylorGaming Once I got a NES emulator and upon opening SMB1 it loaded up World 0. Weird.
0:25 this kid now popular (down right)
It does work in the EU version. At least on VC. The small firemario glitch does.
I'm a picnic ! Thanks for upload
6:36 this is such good scripting!
Acctually this kinda pays homage to The Lost Levels because all the "Fake" Bowsers from 1-4 to 7-4 are all blue!
+Super Crafter110 I'm not sure what you mean! Can you explain a little more for me, I'm interested to know what you're talking about here :P
5:25 It looks like a separate texture is being used to replace the score texture. It appears to be the same texture as the one on the seesaw platforms.
The Original Is One Of My Favorite Glitch Picnics
10:59 OMG 30 YEARS TO DISCOVER!
For the past the flag glitch, modding it so there's infinite time, there will be really glitched out tiles after a while. You get half hill half Bush tile, all sorts.
That'll be when Mario walks far enough to overwrite memory values that are storing the sprites! Things like that are great ahaha
Level 1-1 was the last level made in the game.
After the game was complete they decided to make a level to teach you how to play the game.
Just got this 2 days ago on Virtual Console! Awesome!
+Christopher Dutko The Glitches should all work on there too so you can happily try em out! Some are difficult, but you should be fine :P
I'm pretty sure for the vine glitch it is because mario's x position is stored in one byte and when he goes out it had no choice but to underflow and make it 255 again
+RyBurger77 that's what my explanation says isn't it? :p
+MikeyTaylorGaming kinda, but a little different...
The tile for air is tile 36, the pipes correspond with the tile above them, resulting in world -1 being world 36-1.
In japanese SMB1 you can access world -1,-2,-3, not on super mario deluxe.
Omg why, Why must this be such a good video :p
+YousifGamer Well... It took a long time to make so probably for that reason :P
Good vid as allways ^^ Way too go mikey!
+The Willey Thanks dude, I appreciate that you're still watching :D
Great video! Been watching you for a year or so now but was always too scared to comment ;-; but I did now! Yay! Love your vids
See you in a Comments section soon!
16:55 Mickeytalorgaming: he definitely deserves that magician
Game me:no he doesn't
3:59 That happens because the game sets Mario's sprite to the "shooting fireball" sprite for a small moment when you press the run button while in the fire Mario state, but there is only a "shooting fireball" sprite for big Mario because the player was not intended to be smal andl fire Mario. Trust me, I'm a future game developer. :p
+Canica Lopez Yuppp! One of the first comments in this video we had a discussion about this, and went into why exactly we think this glitch happens in the first place :) You should have a quick scan through to find it and let us know if we're right!
Mario can double jump in Smash Bros. I win, m8.
+Matt11111 Ooooo... Did I say Main Mario Series? :P I can't remember, if so then you have beaten me ;)
It's your friendly neighborhood Skiddo King here, and you did not say Main game.
Thanks for the heads up. I haven't bothered to rewatch the video to find out. :)
Yeahhh I was totally supposed to say that :P Dang it!
Dionicio3 King_Of_Skiddos Thanks. :)
I love watch your videos and A+start's
Okay. But, tell that to the people that just want to enjoy the video. I'm bored of these comments. Just enjoy the content. Thanks.
@@MikeyTaylorGaming i do enjoy it its just i hate misinformation, i know you did not say this because the video would be too long.
Yay! MORE Mario! :D I like mario! I love your videos :3
+ItsDecoter45 I like that you like my videos, thanks for watching! :)
I believe that Bill was accidentally programmed to have the settings of those 2 platforms attached by rope.
No, -1 is world 27 the default warps are the second ones and the left and right pipes are not supposed to be there and so they made it a blank and for smb 27 is a blank space
Another Awesome Job !
Nice video Mikey!
+VinsCool Thanks fellow Temper! :D
wow this is the first one that appeared in my sub box in about 3 months
+Ostrich On Toast No way... That means you missed 2 other videos! I try to release one every month at the moment :)
When you shoot a fireball it changes to big Mario because there isn't a small Mario shooting a fireball sprite.
+Willom Correct :)
+MikeyTaylorGaming woo!
Actually, in one of the Mario Party 2 Duel Games, Mario is a Magician. Lmao xD
The last glitch can be done also when exiting a pipe upward.
"MAMA MIA, I SHOULDN'T HAVE TAKEN THAT ACID!"
+Homosuck Garbage (당신은 저를 들었다.) ahahahaha
On every single, castle I jumped over bowser, without taking damage, on all worlds, saved the princess, ende.
Nice redo mikey!
+Epic0007224 Thank you! I appreciate that :) Definitely put the effort into this one :)
the reason that its the big sprit when you shot a fireball is all a fireflower does is give mario a palette swap so small mario can get the palette swap but there is no srite for small mario shoting a fireball so the game youses the big sprite instede
There appears to be even more glitches than the last video :0
I meant the last Mario 1 video that this is a redux of :b
+Griffith “mrpipe600” Jones Yeah man! Ahaha I didn't really go in depth in the first video which is why I decided to come back to Mario 1.
Having 5 Games in one video like I did back then was such a bad idea... it only gave me like 4 or 5 minutes to show stuff off!

Getting small and throw fireballs DOES work in the european version, I've done it several times. However I think the middlepipe goes to 5-1 not 5-2.
11:12-11:20
DANG Princess Peach needs a mushroom.
in case your wondering this also works in super luigi bros
I've never seen the blue Bowser glitch before. His palette seems to be taken from the Piranha Plants. Also, your old videos aren't terrible! Don't be to harsh on yourself :)
+mario64remix Well, to be honest the first Mario video wasn't too bad, there was just no focus or direction on a single game, so each one was kinda rushed! Taken a lot of time with this one and it's turned out great :)
I'm glad you've seen something new too! Most people have seen a lot of the Mario Bros Glitches before so with something as popular as this it's great to see people learning new stuff :D Thanks for watching as always!
MikeyTaylorGaming Absolutely! Also, great to see you're still answering comments!
***** I'm trying to man, but it's taking so much effort :P
+MikeyTaylorGaming Yeah I can imagine. But your channel is getting bigger, and that's a good thing :)
16:13 actually. if you put on a hack that has the timer never run out then run infinitely the game gets confused and spawns random sprites.
That'll be Mario running far enough to pass the memory limit I'm sure. But, unaccessible without cheats or hacks which this channel doesn't use ;P
Small Mario doesn't have a sprite for throwing fire balls so it uses Super Mario's fireball throwing sprite
when you shoot fireballs as small fire mario it switches to big bc there is no sprite that was made for small mario shooting fireballs, so it shows big mario for that frame
+The Matt In The Hatt yup, there's a huge discussion somewhere in the comments about this theory, we think we nailed it
OMG WHEN I SAW THIS I ALMOST FORGOT TO COMMENT!
I WAS SO EXCITED!! 8O
(Also, like my Icon?)
+Shanabiv Oh hi there! Not like you to forget to comment ;D Almost didn't recognise you with that new icon!
MikeyTaylorGaming Hehe!
Say,
Do you think that, a game called Okami might have a Few cool Glitches?
I think that Okami may have some glitches in it, BUT, it's not a game I've ever played. At the moment I'm trying to stick to games that I'm familiar with so that I can record and release videos once a month as you know!
If I had to play through a whole game that I didn't know, it could take a while longer to release videos which sucks :(
MikeyTaylorGaming Yea
Your right, EEK! Whut about, HMMM.
HMMMMMM.
Uh,
Mario party?
One of them?
Shanabiv I LOVE Mario Party, but I'm not sure if there are many Glitches in those games! I'll take a look into it in future for sure :P
World -1 is Nintendo's take on the Sisyphus myth. You will be doomed to repeat the task over and over again for all eternity because you have sinned against the Nintendo gods!
Helpful information
The reason Small Fire Mario turns into big fire mario when he shoots fireballs is because small mario is never supposed to be able to shoot fire balls thereby he has no fire shooting animation only big fire mario does so he uses his fire animation.
+TailsThe Fox yep
im just gonna say you have an adorable ponytail
i cant help it im a girl
Ahaha thanks! ;D At least someone appreciates the Pony Tail!
MikeyTaylorGaming 😄😄 well it cant always be about the glitches
