- As tourists are coming back to Japan, maybe more and more foreigners are scammed. There're illegal businesses that take advantage of innocent foreign tourists in Japan.
This is not just sexual ones, but applies to any service in tourist areas. So if you visit Japan, please be careful of scammers who target foreigners.

Just in Japan recently. I had Chinese/Taiwanese girls trying to get me to go with them in Kabukicho, and they were pretending to be Japanese. They just straight up tell you that they are offering sex. I engaged in slight conversation knowing a little of both languages. But I found it funny, a girl would speak Japanese to me, and then Mandarin to another girl, and I would talk to her in Mandarin, and she'd say something "like Ohh you been to Taiwan?" then continue with Japanese. Like I already know you're Chinese, what's the point?
That said, the Chinese girls, and the African dudes, just avoid them.
I probably bumped into the same girls you did. Same happened to me, like I don't know they're chinese when they speak mandarin right in front of you as if you don't know difference between Japanese and Mandarin

Exactly. The problem is, you know a lot of these tourist guys are scared. I’m a pretty big guy myself, and they wouldn’t get shit from me. They just show up to intimidate you, but they don’t actually want to fight. The only way they’d get my money that if they actually beat me up, and held me down so they could take it.

Honestly I'm just glad that the women who want to be in this line of work have safe places to do so. Clients needing to be tested, able to get tests themselves, feeling safe to not do something. That's how more things should be for the sex industry. It's not going away so its better to make is safer for all than trying to shut it down and have things go south.

I came to Japan on a regular basis because of my job for the past 30 years, and one day I was approached by a very young lady while I was having a coffee at a Starbucks café. She spoke quite good English and asked me where I am from and what I do in Japan. I was wondering because almost no Japanese would actively approach a foreigner. Anyway, we talked for a while, and suddenly she asked me what my plans would be for the evening, and if I wanted to go out for dinner with her. I noticed that she must have had a higher educational level, because of her good English and knowledge concerning even about my home country.
So I agreed to have dinner with her. To make a long story short: during dinner she told me that she was a kind of private escort and if I am interested to spend the night with her.
She knew that it was illegal, but she told me she would pretend to be my girlfriend.
From that moment on I knew that there is a kind of high class escorts in Japan, just like in my home country. The only difference is, in my country it is legal, but illegal in Japan.
Frankly spoken, we met a couple of times during my frequent visits to Japan. I asked her, why she was dating foreigners, especially from western countries, and she told me that the majority of those men were very kind and friendly, doing everything to make her laugh and feel comfortable, and that some of her friends would also like to meet a western man, but were afraid because of the language barrier.

If you wanna have more than just a normal vacation, then you need to be prepared as much as possible for extra stuff.
Furthermore, many people often become too afraid when they here stories about people getting scammed by pleasure services, so they back away from it completely.
I say that sometimes you need to take some chances if you want to have different kinds of fun.
Just do your research carefully on where you plan to go, what you plan to do, and use your common sense all the time. Do these, and you’ll have less problems.

Japan is no different then anywhere else. People get the false since of safety because of the low crime rate. That doesn’t mean you shouldn't watch out for shady practices.
I come from a small community which has had huge problems with trafficking. Never thought my sleepy boring town would have such problems like this. Which is probably what makes it an easy target.
These kind of services come with considerable risk to ones personal safety. Not to mention their pocketbook so best to avoid them altogether. Good info here as always. :)

Most of the peeps that get scammed (or worse) in this scenario are desperate peeps wanting to get laid and are not thinking properly. I've known a couple of guys that have got beaten because a hottie asked them to go with them to get laid but instead they just get jumped.
All these people choose to ignore the saying' if it's too good to be true then it probably is'... their brains stop working and suddenly they think it's easier to get laid abroad even though they can't get laid in their own country.

My advice is avoid dodgy places and activities. And you will have a good time. I’ve even heard from Japanese friends that got ripped off! If even Japanese natives can get scammed, it means us foreigners don’t stand a chance.

Man! As a tourist, who doesn't speak the language and doesn't quite know what's going on... JUST WHAT YOU NEED is a legal grey area! Fortunately I'm retired and can ignore this more or less. Concentrate on amazing food I've been dreaming of for decades, and just the general pleasantly alien sense of everything.
That just means a pain in the ass law. Expecting tourists to understand grey zones like that is just dumb expectation.

Stayed for 12 days in Tokyo last month. My hotel was only 10Minutes away from Kabukicho. Never saw a single tout or freelancer. Neither during the day or night. Nothing going on at Okubo Park either.

I've been pretty happy with パパ活 so haven't used a proper shop. The real downside is that パパ活 women and clients aren't doing any official testing, so I'm doing regular tests with DMM self-collection kits. While I've never been to a shop, I've met 2-3 dozen women and it's generally a nice experience. Many women only meet with 1-2 people regularly (according to them) and you can build a long-term relationship, which might include things like going to movies, karaoke, spending the night, snowboard trips, weekend trips to Korea, etc. depending on level of trust. As opposed to a shop where you show up, do your thing, you leave, and the woman is on to her next client. It's also more flexible and can lead to some interesting situations, like a woman quitting her job and spending 3-4 days a week at your home (current arrangement). Of course, no matter which route you choose, it's a relationship based on money, so don't delude yourself into thinking you're their boyfriend or even their friend (in some cases).

As a tourist, I don't feel I'm being ripped off because the services and food and drinks are great and cheaper than my country. Where exactly are people going and getting ripped off at?? I've been to many places and probably only got "ripped off" at one girls bar. But I already knew what was going to happen when I entered because I actually look at the prices. So I've never felt scammed. Also, you're crazy if you ever follow a tout 😂

Easy rule to remember: if you don't speak the language or know the unspoken rules, don't solicit sex in foreign countries. If you rely on someone else to provide a service to you without any self-defense like knowledge or protection, you're gonna get clapped or scammed or both regardless of how safe a place is.

I am here in Japan for the first time. I was exploring the Godzilla area in Shinjuku and I was approached by a foreigner who was selling me a pleasure experience with a Japanese girl but I told him multiple times I wasn’t interested. He was persistent and lead me to an elevator and asked me what I was looking for in Shinjuku or Japan, if not a sexual experience. I told him "I don’t know but it's not a sexual experience". I felt that this was a scam and foreigners were the primary target. I was firm with my stance and told him I wasn’t interested.
I will admit, I want to find a Japanese girlfriend but with genuine romance, no paid services or anything.

I remember when I was in JP and I believe we somehow ended up in a red light district or something in Tokyo after going clubbing, remember being surprised that there were massage parlors every 20-30 meters or something. So when the club closed and my friend was dead drunk and could barely walk so I was supporting him from the club when we got outside there were a pair of girls standing outside each massage parlors all of a sudden trying to drag us inside talking about happy times or something also this big dude walked up to us and pointed into a dark unlit alley telling us that there was this sex shop there with pretty girls so we should follow him into it. It freaked me the F out so I threw myself and my friend into the closest taxi and then paid like 30 000 yen to get back to the hotel. After that we made sure to look up where we went.
It's kinda funny why we were even in the area to start with since the dead drunk friend had looked up where we could go and found some club that had pictures of the staff wearing cat clothes and stuff so he thought it would be fun to go here. But once we got there they seemingly had some kind of seniors night since everyone seemed 60+ and there was special offers for them that night. I thought it was hilarious :D my friend was not as amused, luckily there were a ton of other clubs close by.

Recently back from Japan, engaging these services in the Tokyo region is pretty impossible as they are generally only accepting local guys, BUT else where in J land no issues - Just near Tennoji Station in Osaka the girls were yelling out for the business, Sapporo, Fukuoka and Nagoya no problems generally cash only.
in yokohama just go to the massage places, they almost always accept foreigners, that what my FREIND told me, I wouldnt know
It is not impossible. Yoshiwara district for example, has stores that even caters to non-Japanese speaking tourists, but most will charge high rate for example 70-100k yen.
...now I know why many peeps say go to Osaka instead. lol

I remember I got approached by some guy advertising Japanese sex services in 歌舞伎町 and of course I was interested but I expected to be scammed and even get into trouble with the law. I can’t imagine foreigners going for it unless it’s legal in their country maybe. But since it’s illegal in the US I just assume it would be stupid to go for it.

Even knowing there's a high amount (majority?) of legit, ethical SW establishments in Japan. The paranoia of getting scammed would keep me from doing ANYTHING. JHGC is doing the lord's work, making things safer for both sides of the equation (hopefully there is some sort of enforcement or verification for the clientele side as well so there aren't assholes ruining things for everybody else).
So would the big guys provide the service instead if I paid them? Just curious.

This is NOT the reason the birthrate is low. Prostitution was present & common even when they had booming birthrates. The main thing that has changed is work/life balance & income inequality. Honestly one of the downsides I've noticed going to Tokyo and Osaka is the constant barrage of women asking if you want a 'massage' or some will say straight up s*x. Even if I state in Japanese that I'm good they kept pestering. After a few days this honestly got tiring. And the persistence is straight up annoying. Some do not take no for an answer.
a lot of those women are Chinese or SEA immigrants. They will speak to you in Japanese to make it seem like they're Japanese, but if you know Japanese and can distinguish accents it's very easy to tell they aren't from Japan.
Does it matter? It’s Japan. You want real Japanese and think it’s better. Lmao

If you go to places like Kabuki-cho looking for seedy activities you are just asking to be ripped off. Plenty of great things to see and do in Japan without diving into the gutter.

Really interesting take. In the US prostitution is illegal so when I saw this video and the title I had the expectation that people were coming to Japan for these services and that the government was trying to crack down on it. I’ve been to Japan a handful of times and I know that this is one of those gray areas where it isn’t fully legal in most places but you can find it. It’s like anything in life. That if there is enough demand for something people will find a way to get it. Doing it this way at least makes it safer for everyone involved. Similar to weed in some US states. I personally wouldn’t use these services but it’s interesting to see a different way of handling it. My biggest concern is the age of consent. Each country has its own rules and laws, but underage people need to be protected from this kind of thing. It’s no secret that this is an issue in Japan.
Prostitution is legal in my state of Nevada, just not in Clark county aka Vegas. You can get full service from women at any brothel you choose.
Actually some are licenced for 'full service' but there is a limited number, and apparently the government refuses to issue permits for more than the ones already in business. The permits usually are reportedly bound to the address too. So for a non-full service company to expand into full service; they would require purchasing a pre-approved premises. That said; according to the other news article i saw about it; even non-full service facilities don't have a whole lot of restrictions - pretty much everything elsee is fair game, except the one place at the front down below. Also the girls preferences are taken into account too.
There are loopholes tho, some 'host' clubs offer 'extras' which they can claim was 'not on company time' (ie officially she was off work when anything happened) and sometimes the girl may offer to 'walk home' a particularly valuable client.
Really it is like any other country in that respect probably.

One of my husband’s Japanese friends got scammed in Japan, but he did order the prostitute at 2am so idk. It was an older lady and nothing like the photo.
Imagine marrying a Japanese person... Japanese and Korean men are known to be abusive, sexist, show no emotions and see women only as objects. It's how they are taught and raised to be. Japan is very unfriendly towards women. I hope you get over your yellow fever and stop fetishizing Asians. JPOP, anime and KPOP are fabrications and not real. Every big travel destination has scammers that target tourists. Afterall if you just suffer "small" loss many tourists will not go to the police, because who wants to spend their limited holiday interacting with local justice system? Especially if there is a big cultural and language barrier. Just going to report a crime might be very daunting affair. That's why scammers love tourists.
Easy way to avoid shady businesses is never listen to some random guy that is on the street trying to get tourists to visit some bar etc.. Reputable businesses usually don't need to do such marketing,
i speak japanese and me and my japanese friend did nanpa in tokyo for 2 weeks. many fun stories. whatever: multiple times we met 20 year old girls who work as delivery hookers or soapland. and almost EVERY girl at night we met works in kyabbakura (it’s hostess bar, but in the end it’s luxury prostitution. my friend worked in such establishment. if the customer puts the right money on the table he can take any girl home). also fukuoka is FULL of kyabas and sex workers. many were recruited when they were working as innocent students in maid cafes. we also met some that have male hostess bar debts and need to work off their debts. okinawa also full of that shit (lived there for 2 months). what’s going on in japan is AWFUL and extremely sad. i love this country a lot and like everything of japan. i have lots of japanese friends and also had a japanese girlfriend (who got abused in her life and shit). the last 25 years due to corrupt politicians this country is really going DOWN. this is extremely sad. i’m studying economics and also writing a book. i’m extremely sad what’s going on in Japan. i have met so many japanese students who tell me they have no good perspectives on life. this is soooo damn sad. i may be denied for the rest of my life for visa’s but i’ll speak out anyway when i’m done with my book. working a normal job here won’t get you anywhere. it’s really horrible. japan has a unique culture, people’s ignorance for democracy and politics make these problems even worse. also the lack of full democracy is a huge problem (japan is an incomplete democracy as every country on this planet except switzerland). most politicians here suck anyway

As far as democracy goes, the problem we need to ask is: "Who is the majority?"
If the answer is "intelligent people like us" then we have no problem.
If the answer is unemployed single mothers who don't care about politics, OK then we have a problem.
There is no way for democracy to succeed in this case, because the voters are going to work against mens' interests.
Women live longer than men... So we're basically kinda screwed.
Of course, women need to learn to placate men at some point, but that typically won't happen without a collapse.
I left Norway, allegedly great country, to pay lower taxes in the poorest country in the EU, i.e. Bulgaria!
To me, this is a far, far greater country than Norway.
Suppose my income in 80k USD, here I pay about 10k in taxes + tax consultants, while in Norway i pay about 40k. In addition to that, the living costs are twice as high, so effectively I could save 40k+ USD in Bulgaria vs. about 20k in Norway.

Their logic is fairly simple. If the partner goes to a prostitute, they see it as a service, pure entertainment. If the partner goes on a date with someone, it's considered cheating because the partner is developing feelings and potentially has an intention to replace their current partner.
