I just changed a spool of the spider braid and when I put the new on I realized just how different the old was from the new. The wax was very noticeable and this vid is the same result I was having. Thanks and great content.
I've had the same experience with the power pro. It seems to soften a little and the casting distance seems to improve over time. And you can't beat the durability as i have a couple reels that i use regularly that have had the same line on it since purchased in 2011.
I'm a respooler as soon as I see any fray in the line I just take out line and respool it and I absolutely hate it when I get down to my connection knot that's why I don't like the Uni Knot it seems to bite on the spool, I prefer the FG knot.
P.S. I am very happy to learn that both line are so equal, that I can buy either when buying line is necessary and be confident with my purchase. Also glad to know my FG knot is working as good as I thought.
Great video guys. I’ve alternated between the two types of braid and they both work great. Would be cool if you did a test on Diawa J braid. I don’t really like it but it would be cool to see the results.
I think the main issue of Spiderwire is that strands don't hold together well when the wax is gone. Whether the line is made with 4 or 8 strands, the casting distance would be reduced since the strands trend to loose.
Try out Sufix 832. I tried out multiple braid brands for over a year and finally settled on 832 as the best. I use 30lb on my Bantam MGL and 15lb on my Stradic FK’s.
People seem to forget how much rod guides matter, high quality guides (on usually expensive rods) cause waaay less friction which keeps the lines characteristics intact. I've been putting heavy use on spiderwires' stealth smooth 8 on my rod with Fuji Sic guides for a year and it has pretty much 95% of it's smoothness and suppleness left along with it's long casting capacity and quiet retrieve. I humbly inquire that, high end lines like spiderwire stealth smooth 8 or 12 (or anything equivalent) is amazing for high end rods with high end guides. Whilst if you have low- or medium end guides you should probably use lower end line that is a bit less supple, quiet and smooth BUT keeps it's characteristics for a longer period of time as it isn't as "sensitive" and doesn't wear out as easily.
I've got spiderwire on two reels and wondered if I was imagining things with the reduced distance I've been getting lately. Being a kayak fisherman mainly, I wondered if I just wasn't slinging as hard as I had been. Good to know it's an issue
I've noticed that as well with the Spiderwire. I have rods spooled with both Spiderwire & Power Pro. Guess I'm changing out the Spiderwire to Power Pro. Thanks for sharing 👍🎣😎
Good evening my friend ... because I am interested in buying the spider at 0.140mm for light spinning is it worth it ?? is the diameter correct or will the line be thicker ..... is it worth it ?hello from Greece 😊
Found this in searching for newer lines. You seem to put a lot of content, which makes it difficult for me to find follow-ups on other lines. For a retiree, returning to fishing, what would now recommend for fresh water, long casts, with minimal memory. I tried Spiderwire Fusion and the memory was terrible. Just so much I didn't like about it. I did like the original Spiderwire, but it doesn't seem to be available anymore.
Thanks for your question! Make sure to ask this over on the actual blog or in the Community where the coaches spend their time. The blog can be found here: bit.ly/3aKEZBT
Can we not just simply "re-wax" that Spider 🤔 I've switched to fly fishing a year ago, and cos I am still useless in it, I am going to use fly line silk on Spider... 🙄🍻 Thanks for your vid, sir ! Tight lines !
Luke I watch all of your videos. A week or so you asked if we could suggest any lures for to test. Well my grand children came over and it slipped my mind until I watched this one on the lines I found it very informative I was going to buy some spider wire just yesterday. Thank you , how about testing the Nomad Maverick is it as good as they say and is it that easy to fish. Thank you west coast Mike
If you'll be targeting redfish, seatrout, snook, and/or flounder, I highly recommend using paddletail jigs because they can catch just as many (if not more fish) while costing a fraction of the price. Plus, you can fish close to structure where the most fish feed without worrying about losing an expensive lure to a bad cast or a big fishing getting around some structure.
I'm a 90's Walleye dude who is getting back in the game. With all of the advancements in braided line technology why would I ever waste my time with traditional monofilament line?
You need to compare Ultracast vs Slick V2 in 10# that challenge would make more sense. To be on the same playing field as orignal Power Pro you would need to put it against the Spiderwire Steath which is a 4 strand braid under 20#
Thx. This is good info to know. What about baitcasting reels for fresh water bass fishing, Do you know which baitcaster would cast farther, if u have done test like this? I wonder since i am a bank fisherman which baitcast reel could cast the farthest. If a DC reel. Like the Curado DC would out cast a non DC reel, etc
Casting distance with a bait caster involves more skill from the caster in managing the line so that it has minimal resistance while not backlashing. With spinning reels, it's all about getting power on the cast and then getting out of the way so that the line can fly off the spool.
I’ve always been a PowerPro guy but for my spinning gear. I’ve been thinking and looking at that SpiderWire for my baitcasters only cause of the white color. Can y’all test it in baitcasters? I use and have nothing but Lew’s baitcasters. Thanks.
Based on how it handled with spinning tackle, I recommend going with PowerPro over Invisibraid with baitcasters too. Note: PowerPro makes their line in white too.
I second that notion, just bought SpiderWire blue camo and been using SW regular camo. The lack of color of PowerPro and the slickness of the SW keeps me coming back! I have been using the SpiderWire for as long as they been out and bent more hooks on SW and lost very few hooks on it to. Color is what power pro is missing and just being honest I have to protect my guides and equipment SpiderWire is wear it's at for me. Will see what Pp brings out in the future? ; )
I noticed on my Spiderwire EZ braid that the fibers in the "braid" would splay into separate strands when I took a small segment and pushed the ends inward. Chinese braid doesn't even do that :/
Would be curious about your thoughts on the Sufix Advanced Mono. I’ve been using the 8lbs and 12lbs versions on shimano dc baitcasters. I’ve been pulling in speckled trout on light/fast action rods no problem, and even a few redfish upper slot. Only time I’ve lost fish were when they wrapped around pilings.
I've totally gone away from mono for mainline because it doesn't enable the feel of strikes nearly as good as braid (too much feel is lost in the stretch). Also, it has to be replaced much more frequently relative to braid.
@@Saltstrong Totally understand, it was a suggestion to test it against braid. Sufix claims it has 50% less stretch and infuse the line with braid materials for a hybrid line.
I tend to get stuck on the bottom a lot when using j hooks with soft baits how do I get around this problem I’m targeting red fish in the shallow and I tend to get stuck quite a bit any tips?
Anybody else use reel magic spray with fresh braid? Just bought some to try out. Mostly fish salt water. And I prefer PowerPro but I also like trying other brands. Thanks for the free pack!
I don't recommend putting any chemicals on your line because it can spook fish given that it'll create a chemical trail behind your lure as you're retrieving it through the water.
We'll be testing J Braid soon since many people have recommended it. Yes, we are offering a free pack of our Slam Shady paddletail lures to all fishermen (max 1 per household)... details at www.slamshady.com.
The ones in this video are Daiwa Fuego LT reels. Here's a detailed review showing the pros and cons: www.saltstrong.com/articles/daiwa-fuego-lt-reel-review/
Bought spider wire 30 pound test line freaying and breaking from first trip. I will never buy spider wire again. Bad roll no bought 3 from different stores same issue.
F**k I just bought spiderwire invisible braid today because of your other video lol. I will be using it on a baitcaster anyways so it might hold up different. Anyways not mad at all it looks pretty good.

my powerpro seems to coarse and loud in a couple of months I guess I just fish around too many rocks.

I agree... creates a lot of wind drag which slows the line down and decreased casting distance.

Cajun red line lol ...i used to love that stuff years ago

It definitely wasn't just you:)
Always use Powerpro. Never any issues. Thanks for doing this!

I will always stick with sufix 832
KINGBASSIN silky smooth gortex! 10’ all day!
I'll be testing that out soon.
That is a really good braid

Glad to see that you enjoyed this video.
I use Daiwa j braid X8 best braided line I’ve ever use you should try it
We got a spool of it, so we'll be testing it out soon.
Now I Can’t wait for the j-braid 8 strands testing, haha! Thanks for the info.
Coming soon
Use Spiderwire for backup and jigging perhaps a bit thicker than othersr but a good line.that breaks high.
Very valuable information. Tyvm!
Thanks Bridgett!
How about solid Jerry Brown, Solid Tuffline, solid diamond memio bread comparison

It would be interesting to see KastKing's braid (4 strand) in the comparison
I was grossly disappointed in it about a year or so ago.
its terrible compared to both
They both good lines. I use the spiderwire white because you can see it better at night and I feel I get less wind knots.
I'm pretty sure that most manufacturers make their lines in white too.
What brand and model spinning rod do you recommend for quality and longevity? I do inshore and like a 7’-8’ rod with a Med-Heavy power // Fast action.

Power pro. Hands down best casting.
Spider wire is stronger
