As a very frequent flyer to the west coast, I have used the JFK-LAX routing a few times. The first class is exceptional. Even in Business class you get a lie-flat bed. As of today I think the routes that offer the 321t are JFK to LAX,SFO, SNA & BOS to LAX, SFO. The American first louge serves a purpose and I think is adequate, but the short walk to Tom Bradley (T3) is worth is weight in gold as the lounge offerings are for, far superior.
I would have just stayed in the Qantas 1st LAX lounge and made the most of it - US lounges mirror US 1st class travel options! Interesting how the US lounge bars they still expect a tip, so that’s another bonus to use the Qantas lounge where its not…
on the westbound flights you will get the full meal service course by course. JFK has the Flagship dinning available if you were to arrive into it as well the next day morning for breakfast and shower

I am doing that same flight at the end of July red eye in flagship first class did get any sleep

Not offering a breakfast service is not First Class to me.
realistically on a 4 and half hour flight you can't eat both dinner and breakfast, you can request for the scones and smoothies to go though
