Hello everyone! Thanks a lot for watching and just a couple of things:
Firstly, apologies for being a bit cryptic about the Z7, I didn’t realise I had been until I edited the video. It fell off a tripod - but I will chat more about this in a future video and I think it’ll make a lot more sense.
Secondly, if you have a quick second to spare, I’d really appreciate it if you could click on the ‘like’/‘thumbs-up’ button as it’d help me out loads!
Thanks so much, can’t wait to share more from Scotland next week and beyond!
well, that kills my dig that you should have bought a Canon instead 😁
great video as always, Henry
Im so glad I was not there this time. Hope you can sort it out mate and all is well. 👍
For as much as you use your camera, I'm surprised you haven't trashed it more. As they say, s**t happens! I'm happy for you that you had your OM as a backup.
Henry is the OM 5 really that much lighter than the OM 1. Is that the reason you take it as backup?? Weight + built in weather proofing. Does the OM 5 give you a choice to set up a “MY MENU folder to make it easier to change settings easier than hunting around? Thanks so much!! Great light and great video!!
Hi Henry sorry about your Nikon, but the best lense for Olympus is the 12-100 F4 pro stunningly sharp.
👍🏼👍🏼😊
I have that too and cm totally agree with it. Fantastic lens sharp all the way and is on my camera a lot that's and the 100-400mm F5-6.3 as I love landscape and wildlife
Awesome video mate, what a week. I hope my photos turn out as well as yours, I still haven't looked at them yet. haha 🤦♂
Thanks man, it was wonderful, enjoyed it so much - what a memory! Can’t wait to see what you got from the area 🙏🏻👍🏼
nice one Henry, who knows you may convert to Olympus !!
Cheers!!
Olympus 12-100 f4 is way to go. Coupled with 8-25 f4 - Dream! :)
HENRY, I'm sad about the Nikon, but so glad you have a worthy replacement on hand.
I love what you're getting out of the reborn OM5. Those shots wow me! Scotland is a photographer's paradise...QUALITY!
Ah thanks Tim! Yes I’m delighted with the shots, especially now with the new lenses
The last 2 shots are just wonderful. Very good light and composition.
Last two images are absolutely captivating and beautiful. Great video Henry. Good Luck with your Nikon Z 7.
Cheers! Wolfgang
Regarding cameras; 2 is 1 and 1 is none. Spares are a good thing.
Absolutely true Tony 👍🏼
Stunning compositions. You should do a vlog on your post processing as well.
Love your channel, learning alot!!!! Have a great trip!!! Cheers from Sweden!🌞💜
Awesome! Thank you!
Great content. Enjoyed watching.
Great video. Really enjoyed it.
Great video and some wonderful images... thanks, Henry, for sharing 🙏
Great video and images!
Another enjoyable video Henry. Well done.
So much colour and motion in the last two shots. Gorgeous place and captures Henry!
great video Henry, very inspiring
Beautiful images, thank you for sharing
Thank for sharing. Up there in Skye next month from Kent. If you ever do a social meet or organised trip let us know! All the best Marcelo
Can't keep a good man down! Glad you rose above your adverse circumstances, Henry. And some crackin' good shots to boot!
I feel your pain, but your positive outlook comes through again. Secondly I'm very jealous of your location, lol
I was super impressed with your Olympus shots - stunning!
Absolutely loved these shots, Henry, and thank you for that spectacular shot of the castle on Skye. ❤
Wow, AWESOME video and incredible shots!!! It is amazing how you find the right spots with and for the camera you have with you. It is also amazing how you use the tools you have to inspire us. Thanks
Some truly stunning images in this one mate 😎
What a place! Great shots! 😃
Thank you!!
The second to last image is just perfect, I absolutely love it.
Some great shots there mate. 👍😁
Another great video Henry. Before you you went to Elgol, I thought the first image was my favourite, but as usual Elgol does not disappoint. Whenever I have visited Elgol I am always awestruck at the beauty of this location. I am always very jealous of the school kids that live there as during their junior years they get to attend the school right on the beach - what a view from their playground!
When the sun shines at Elgol the rock colours are fascinating - they turn pink and orange even without a sunset
Adaptability in the field...yes. Your images of Skye brought back some great memories of 9 years ago when we were there. Still love your enthusiasm. Keep up your great work!
Some fantastic images there Henry, especially with the moody skies and that sunset is great. I look forward to next week's video.
Awesome, thank you!
Great video Henry.
Thanks Darren mate 👍🏼👍🏼
So sorry I missed you at Applecross Pass. Was photographing at the same spot. Enjoy your trip Sky.
Great video, had my 24-105 lens crap out on me recently in the rain, unrepairable, but luckily Sony offered to replace it at a reduced cost. I cannot believe you captured that shot handheld, crazy, great shots.
Stunning images Henry. Hope the z7 gets repaired soon. So pleased u have the other to fall back on
Nice story vlog. Glad you guys have linked up. The last but one image was my favourite. Keep going team
Glad you enjoyed it
Somewhere I would love to visit, it looks like you both had a great time.
Thanks for sharing your adventure and looking forward to the next one.
Thanks for watching!
I love Elgol, I spent a great afternoon there just over 4 years ago, we had a lot of sun and not enough cloud, but hey, you do the best you can with what you have, enjoy the moment, and relish the memories!
Lovely video with epic scenery Henry your photos were amazing so sorry to hear about your camera 😊
Thanks John 🙏🏻
The last two shots are superb. Henry, as long as you have a working camera, you will help it to deliver.... I think the camera actually knows you have got its back.
Incredible photos ❤. Stay blessed 😇
Thank you! You too!
Stunning photos and stunning environment - you are not making me want to come to Scotland any less! Love your videos and your passion.
Thanks!
Thanks for sharing your time with us! Sorry about the Nikon, hopefully you can get it repaired without too much trouble. This video proves the best camera you have is the one that’s working! Hahaha
You got your wish for that sunset, Henry! Great video - now I'll have to keep an eye out for Ian's one... Thought it was about time I subscribed to your channel too... 😉
Thanks for the sub!! Yes Ian’s will be out soon enough I’m sure 👍🏼
I look forward to seeing the last but one on the calendar for next year absolute belter! 🎉❤
Thanks Andy!! I’d say that was my favourite shot from the day
Great images Henry, you've some calendar worthy ones there. ☺
Thank you! Some contenders there for sure!!
Love your enthusiasm, your shots and the locations. Gutted about your camera - similar thing happened to me in the remotest bit of SW Scotland recently...
Looks like you met up with Scotland's bravest learner driver... 10 minutes in and there is a learner driver going over the Bealach na Ba... That's proper heroic learning right there.
Yes mad that, me and Ian thought it was amazing haha
Every time again I can't get over how beautiful Scotland is. I really love the castle image! Kind of makes me think that a dragon will appear any moment 😅 I've probably watched too many tv shows 😂 Such beautiful light on the last two images!
Thank you very much!
I love first last image
Thanks Jef 👍🏼
Sorry to hear about your latest camera and lens issues, but as you said it's fortunate you have an alternative.
Nice photos and enjoyable video as always. 🙂
Can't believe you didn't go for my favourite lens the Panasonic 14-140, but the 12-60 is good.
Thanks mate! Yes there was an array of lens choices really!
Thanks again for another interesting and enjoyable clip, Henry. Glad your Z7 survived the fall with just needing repair. I always enjoy your mellow, moody images. I tend not to use the internal ND filters very much, preferring the high-res mode which often does an excellent job with water. (I suspect the algorithms for each mode do similar work.) Also, I tried the digital zoom a couple of times and - to my surprise - got a 20MP image from it, so it is not merely a crop. The camera is clearly up to some computing shenanigans in this mode, but in any event I think it yields some pretty good results.
Another good video with greta content, started using the OM5 myself, very impressed so far.
Fantastic light and photo in the end 👌
Thanks 👍
Hi Henry great to see you in Skye again. I have been 3 times now and still won't to go again as always brilliant video and photos too. Just loving it.
Great video! Sorry about your camera. I only have one and it would be devastating if something happened to it. Great images and it is cool to see you hanging with Ian, two of my favorite UK photographers.
Thanks 👍
Great video, last 2 images were stunning. I’m thinking of getting an OM5 to reduce weight for my hike trip to Pyrenees in September so your lens review was very helpful
Nice video 👏
Great video and pics. Particularly loved the one at 7.55. sorry to hear about the Z7
Thank you Alan!! It was a nice little adventure 👍🏼
Heading over to Skye in September on the way through the Highlands and onto Orkney, that’s a lovely spot there Henry, dramatic mountains and superb light, great images 👌
That will be a great trip mate, hope you have a good one
Awesome second to last image, definitely my favourite.hope to see the Nikon back soon
Thanks Stuart!! Yes hopefully it won’t be too long 👍🏼
That Apple cross road is like driving to heaven. Just keeps going up...
Great to have you back in Scotland Henry. Loved the photo looking back down the Bealach na Ba. Typical weather though, when your wanting rain you get nothing, when your wanting it dry it's chucking it down. Hope you get the Z7 back soon but the Olympus is doing a fantastic job. Stay safe mate. 👍😎
Thanks 👍
That black and white square photograph was stunning. Like you said, the drama was, well, dramatic.
I trashed a Nikon Zf on my last trip so I feel your pain. I found a lightly used z7ii to replace it. Life carries on.
Thanks for a great video.
Thanks Chris!!
great video again . do you have a link to that cottage ? would love to rent it for a future holiday
Feel your pain re the camera, I had a 150-600mm lens's AF give up on me on the first shoot of a three day birding trip to Norfolk. There's nothing like trying to manually focus a great big hulk of a lens when trying to photograph birds. Great vid again , do love Scotland, but never done a photo trip. It's on the menu😁
Nice images!
What about those beautiful stonebridges?!? I also love the typical stone fences surrounding roads and cultured landscape in UK and Ireland.
As other's say, the 12-100 f:4 is my goto for hiking. For the wider I just add the Laowa 6mm and the Leica 9mm in the backpack. They add "no" weight. 🙂
Ffordes of Beauly is a fantastic camera shop, only an hour from your location (if you’re still there!) Maybe they can help you out with the Nikon?
Oh mate nooooo 😢
Looking for a super wide lens for my OM1, I think you have convinced me to go with that 7-14 ... Great video again Henry
Thanks a lot
Just be careful if you intend to use filters as the front element sticks out - so you need an adapter. The 8-25 f4 is a superb alternative for the sake of 1mm :-)
Thanks David
Nice info..could have added link for Ian's too.
Thanks. There’s a link to Ian’s channel in the video description 👍🏼
Great shots, did you use a polariser too ?
Thanks Henry - broke two cameras recently and now using early digital cameras that I couldnt sell - the images are just as good but the process is a bit slow! Keep smiling!
Cheers for watching Peter
Hey Henry, I really love the photos you got!
I never thought about cropping/digital teleconverter with Olympus, but it looks so good.
Thanks a lot for thinking about people with mobility issues like me, I really appreciate that!
I was wondering if you would be satisfied with the 12-200, because I read about the low quality on the long end.
I might get the 12-100 when I Go back to Olympus.
Looking forward to more adventures in Scotland with you and Ian.
Noooo!😢
I have the Panny Leica 12-60 and it’s never off my LUMIX G9. It’s perfect for landscape photography. Good to see you representing the M43 community.
Nice one Henry! Went to Applecross over 10 years ago, wonderful location. I remember driving up that pass, almost getting to the top and then having to reverse back around a hairpin bend to let a Land Rover and trailer pass me... scared the life out of me! Still, I remember getting some fantastic shots in that area, a spectacular place!
Very cool!
Hi Henry. I`m so pleased that you got the light that you had hoped for at Elgol, super photograph`s. 👌🙂
Thanks a lot Peter 👍🏼
Beltin images as ever. Particularly those last 2 👏👏
Way back in my studio days - in the film days actually, a very long time ago - I had a photography student working with me as an intern. We were doing a fashion shoot and i asked her to swap the lens on my camera, from the Canon 24-70 f2.8L to my Canon 85 f1.2L. She set the 24-70 on a table, which wasn't quite level, and it rolled off the table and fell 2.5 feet onto the concrete floor! She was devastated and I was pretty freaked out...but the lens was fine. It's been my experience that camera gear is fairly resilient, as long as it doesn't take a serious fall or get submerged. Hopefully your Z7 can be repaired if you choose to go that route. My poor assistant, on the other hand, felt so horrible that it took me, the model, and the make-up/hair person to get her calmed down! I even took her out to dinner afterwards, and she broke down again! Poor girl!
Ah dear. I agree with that, I’ve had plenty of falls and all sorts, it just takes it landing in a bad way
Love the show from Florida
love that second but last one, stop at Elgol quite a lot, in the little cottage over your shoulder as you walk along the beech, next visit 4 weeks time, you see some incredible light, its an amazing place.
I bet it’s great to have a longer period of time there!
the weather and scene can change by the second, i spend hours looking out he front window, then its grab the camera and walk down to the beach, usually returning soaked through
I've had that 7-14mm F2.8 for years and hardly used it, Henry, as I mainly shoot car shows and motorsports. So it was wonderful to see what you achieved with it. Maybe I'll dig it out and go explore when it eventually stops raining here.
I just did what you mentioned and looked through my Lightroom stats. The most used lens by miles for me is the M.ZUIKO 40-150mm f2.8 PRO, I absolutely adore it for my sort of use. So versatile and rugged.
Enjoying Scotland btw.
Yeah I found it interesting looking through the LR stats!!
Lucky you had a back up system. Love my Nikon gear but equally my Fuji system is a great lighter backup for me. Lovely images 👏
Thank you 😊
Was going to say the best shot was around 9min 44 sec in, then came another great shot, then another great shot and plenty more. They were stunning images and what great scenery. Amazing how you get those without a tripod,
Have been over the pass into Applecross a few times (NC 500) and know its awesome.
Never mind the damaged camera, staying in a cottage on a photography trip with a mate in Scotland with days like that and getting those images, now that is truly living the dream!
Thanks David. Yes it was fantastic, truly something to be grateful for!!
Bad news on the Nikon, great reason to use that OM5 more! 2 Great lenses.
Very true Dave, feeling fortunate and you're right, the lenses are both amazing
Good to see you using an Olympus. If you get a chance try the 40-150 F2.8 as it’s sharp all the way out. It would be interesting to see if you can actually see any different with the print quality of the Nikon v Olympus. You and many other would be surprised 😉
Hi
I think someone as already mentioned the 12-100 f4 is a brilliant lens for sharpness.
It’s a biggish lens but will cover 24- 200mm in 35mm terms .
And will be still lighter than the Z7 😊
Great to see you using Olympus gear. I use the 7-14mm lens for astrolandscapes. Perfect.
Ah I bet it’s great for night photography!
Loved the video! My photography is a serious hobby for me so I don't have the most expensive lenses but I do find that most of the time my Canon 18-135mm lens lives on my camera. I rarely use it at the full 135mm for landscape shots and generally use from 20 to 85mm. I'd love to go to Scotland and have musician friends there.
Sounds like a great lens
I only buy Sony E or FE Mount cameras nowadays - So much more backup this way. Sent one camera back for repair a few days, all insured.
Hope it all works out well for you, mate. You know, if you get an adaptor, those Nikon lenses may work, in manual focus, on your OM-5.
You really can't go wrong in Scotland but I might be a tad biased as I live here! Skye is too 'busy' for me these days as that seems to be the place to go for every man and his dog. I'm travelling to the Isle of Lewis and Harris soon and can't wait. Take care Henry
Great photos, especially liked the one 18 and a half minutes in.
Thanks 👍
Last pic deffo the best 👍j is the cottage on Skye ?
Thanks mate I was happy with that one! Cottage is near to Lochcarron 👍🏼
Another nice two lens setup on OM/Oly is 8-25mm f/4 Pro and the 40-150 f/2.8 Pro + optional 1.4x extender.
Seems like it'd be a good one that, definitely!
Hello Henry, I‘m sorry that you have issues with your Nikon Z7. Hopefully there is a way to fix it by Nikon services. Beautiful pictures also with the Olympus camera. At the end a camera is a tool and it should work for your work. Thank you for talking us to your story. Best regards from Germany.
Henry, you took some great shots even with the Olympus. How many megapixel does the camera has? I like the lenses that Olympus makes they are like the Fujifilm lenses sharp well made and they work well. Good to have an extra system handy for sure. Cheers.
Might want to give the 12-100mm f4 pro a shot. Sharpness at either end is pretty great.
I actually borrowed that lens for a bit from MPB but I wasn’t too pleased with the sharpness at the telephoto end. The reviews for it are fantastic though so you can’t be wrong!!
