Of the dozen or so photographers I follow on TH-cam, yours is the only one where I set aside the time to watch uninterrupted. Phone next door, coffee in hand and sit down to enjoy it. Love the enthusiasm, scenery and pictures, particularly Scotland, but then I am biased. Received my calendar now. Great pics. Keep up the good work.
Very much appreciated Alan and thanks so much for your support mate
Top Notch videos! Just subscribed to your channel. Because of you I just earned some money, not much but here's the story:
I'm the USA, State of VA. I spend a lot of time wild camping. I go mostly to photograph. I use Micro 4/3 exclusively, Panasonic setup. Need to go lighter. Your first vid of the Om5 sent me to MPB to see what they have. Ended up trading a sony camera I purchased for my wife (who didn't like it) for an OM5 body, andthey paid me $41.00 difference!
I have no complaints. Shaved about 1kg off my pack weight, new toy, and enough extra cash for a pint or two. See ya on the trail!
Number 2 definitely
Definitely image no. 2. Thanks Henry, great video.
Your channel just keeps getting better, Henry. Stunning images, infectious enthusiasm and great banter. What more could we ask for?
Many thanks!
Number 2. For the composition also
Thanks for another wonderful clip, Henry - so rich with your boundless enthusiasm. Some lovely scenery, and as always, simply gorgeous photos. I'm unsure if I'll ever make it back to England, but if I do, I'll have the Lake District on my itinerary. I understand your comments about the OM-5: the OMS gear seems to be so rich with features it's as if they were looking over the shoulders of a broad range of photographers, making note of what they needed and then brought that into being.
Henry, in half an hour's worth of video you've walked by and pointed out more photographic locations / vistas / scenes than are available IN TOTAL across my entire state (and the least of them are better than our best). Wow. By the way, I prefer image version #2 although I like the light in #1. But #2 is a far more dynamic composition. Great video!
Stunning scenery and your infectious enthusiasm is just the thing to watch on these these cold winters nights Henry !
Just love your style and content. Keep up the awesome work and locations mate.
Lovely scenery and photos. Great seeing someone so passionate about the nature. Be careful with that cam (om5) on that peak design strap. Heard horror stories about the bottom breaking, hopefully only stories. Enjoy
Definitely the atmospheric one…. Great shot… Makes you feel your right there….
Picture 1 the best without doubt 👍
I think you captured the magic of the light and the scene that first time
I like the image at 14:00 best.
I like no. 2 image best
You are a good photographer but an even better presenter, you're wasted on YT ,you should be on mainstream tv, "walks with Henry", I can see it now.
I think we have a lot to thank Beatrix for and not just her books, what she did for the Lake District we should all be thankful for
Hi Henry, what fun to join you on your adventures. I found you on TH-cam a few years ago. I lived in Sequim, Washington at the time, and have since moved to Virginia, USA. I subscribed right away, and I haven’t regretted it. I look forward to each of your posts. I am so interested to know how far you walk on each of your trips. Do you measure it somehow? I agree with you that traveling lighter is so much better. Whenever I can take my little lunchbox-size plein air pastel set on location, rather than the big backpack, I love it! You occasionally mention that one of your photos looks like a painting. As a pastel painter, it makes me smile because so often people tell me, wow, your painting looks like a photo. What a funny thing that is, so switched around. There were a couple of photos in this video that took my breath away. One more thing…I love cold, stormy, foggy, dreary weather, too! I have always felt a bit odd. Most people are grumbling about it, and I love it! I am more prone to seasonal blues when it is hot. So, on many counts, I can relate. Thank you for all the creative effort you put into your videos. I know how much work it takes, and I appreciate it!
2nd picture I like
I was in the Lake District that same week, also chasing autumn landscape photos. West shore of Derwentwater & a boat trip, Lowther Castle and Loweswater were the main locations. I just wish I was as weather proofed as my E-M1 ii & 12-40mm lens, the walk around Loweswater was especially wet, even my rain jacket started leaking. Holme Force was worth it though. 👍
Haha Henry, still loving your enthusiasm after all this time. I had to chuckle at the contradiction. You say, “I love the isolation”, getting out into natural beauty alone. But you’re such a Communicator that I have to say, thank the Universe for TH-cam, for without it I do believe you’d be wandering the hills and dales talking to yourself instead of the 76,000 subscribers to your channel.❤
Loving my om5 as well, just got some primes and a polarizing filter for it to play with. I switched to it from Fuji and even though my old X-H1 was technically a higher spec camera, I'm finding I get more images that I'm happy with while using the om5. Its just more fun to use, the extra depth of field is fantastic, the entire system is lighter, and the sensor while small is a beast. First trip out I got absolutely drenched in a heavy rain/snow storm. In similar conditions I've had the Fuji fog up, it was fine otherwise but unusable. The om5 didn't skip a beat, even changed lenses a couple times and no fog or damage even with sitting on the tripod in heavy rain for 10 min while taking a timelapse. The only thing I don't like about the system is that the info screen on the camera seems cluttered and the exposure triangle isn't lined up like other systems do.
This advent series you're doing is working great! I found your channel a few days ago and I've been binging your videos since!
We watch your videos every week and enjoy every one, oh and your new calendar arrived in the post the other day, thanks again 👍
Thanks a lot and thanks for the support with the calendar purchase!!
Love the curvature of the lane and the fence posts on image 1 but also like the lack of wall and the bunch of trees on image 2 🤔 love herdies, love the LD and love your videos
You are like crocodile hunter photographer! Lol
i understand what you mean. i love that as well.
A nice walk with you through the English countryside. So many photographic potential. Thanks for sharing
i get you i feel the same about mine its handy not hassle
Love the layers in this photo 24:39 ! Well done.
Great strolling, no route planned video. It's times like that when you can discover a jewel of a composition. I like photo #2, better composition and weather conditions.
Thanks brilliant video many notes taken re location for our next trip to lakes in spring roll on next weekend for video cheers
Magic totally beautiful landscape.
You shall be forthwith known as Herdwick Herny 😅
Great video Henry...you show that just because the weather is poor don't stop photographing...superb images...many thanks
What an inspiring video this is, I loved those photos you took, I preferred the new image on that photo by the way :) . That was clearer and much more atmospheric, nice one. It was a wonderful stroll you took us on and perhaps one day I may get to have a wee wander there . Love the sheep too, I may well go looking for that farm and get in to see them, they are cute. Thanks again Henry for taking us with you on another wonderful journey 😁👍
Cheers Henry, it’s Sean in Atlanta! Amen, brother! We are exactly alike in coming alive at this time of year and the beautiful experience of being alone in the woodland with a camera! It seems that the Autumn colours are late in the UK this year! We are way past peak colour here in the South East of the US, where Atlanta is.
You are so fortunate to live in such a beautiful place! I only ever come to the UK in November, I love that time of year so much! Thanks for sharing your part of the world!
Sean
Thanks mate! Yes definitely a bit later than usual this year
If it's not raining, it's going to.
No such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothing.
Love the area, one of my favourite places in the world.
Ambleside to Hawkshead, Coniston to Great Langdale.
Also enjoying your enthusiasm for your new camera kit
Always enjoy your VLOGS. Great adventure and photography
Definitely liked number 2.
Once again, thanks for taking us along on a beautiful virtual walk. Just gorgeous county. I am in awe of the stone wall fences. Those are a work of art. Must have taken years to build.
Hi Henry great to see Yew tree farm again I stayed there must be 10 years ago now they did B/B at the time lovely place thanks for reminding me.
Love both of the shots taken, the second shot was incredible, but love the brightness of number one.
All of the shots from this video are award winning shots. Thanks for sharing.
Great adventure, Henry! I have to mention that I really loved it when you popped up that two random images taken by that hut with the smoking chimney. It was a really nice touch! Really appreciate your work! Cheers!
#2 100%
I say number 2 is better.
Hi Henry, another grand day out and thanks again for sharing. Such a tonic ! Can't wait for the next leg of the adventure.
I like No2
#2 for me though the fence post on the right feels a bit tight
Great viewing again Henry , great to tag along on your adventures 👍🏻
Great day out Henry! #2 really speaks to me - love the autumnal view so much better. So glad you've gone so "free" with your photography - simple gear and more attention to what's around. Carry on and gap the mind...or is it mind the gap? What do I know - I live in Tennessee😂
wow Henry! since using that Oly, you have been taking your best images ever IMO! Fantastic!
Another great video Henry.
Enjoyed the adventure as usual.
Glad to see that you are using the van a bit more to stay in when you are out and about.
Great images as usual mate.
Look forward to seeing your next video.
Thanks 👍
I like the new image, number two
Great video as always. Everytime you walk there, whatimpresses me the most, other than the beauty of the area, is those stone walls. How did people build them is incredible.
The shot of little farm, i personally prefers the composition of the summer one but obviously prefer the colours and mood of the one you just took. Great work as always.
I prefer number 1, composition was more pleasing to my eye, number 2 was good though.
Breathtaking....
Beautiful compositions you captured, such photogenic country, what period of time in the UK history were most of the stone fences constructed? Should include more of them in your shots, for us that don’t live there, thank you.
Love this walk Henry in the Lake District!! Love picture number 2 !! I always enjoy the walk with you even over the dead trees!! Looking forward to next week!💕
Very beautiful picture's is this video
2 was my favorite. Loved the journey Henry and I too love the best weather days as you described.
Thanks Henry love this video. Loving the number 2 photo!! Really special. The Herdwicks are so good, love them. They make great photos on their own!!. Looking forward to the next leg of adventure!! All the very best Graham ❤
Excellent video Henry such a lovely area great photos number 2 for me love the colours and love the Callander that came this week well put together 😊
Love the video! It's so beautiful there, amazing fall colours and you know I love waterfalls!
Another enjoyable video, glad to see that you're enjoying using the om5 .
Americans call the hip pack a fanny pack, which still gets me every time 😂 (yes, I'm a 5 year old.!) .... Lovely photos Henry, escpecially 21:45. Love the colours.
Great video and photos. Would like to go to Lake District some day. Cheers from Norway 🍂
Thanks mate, I hope you can make it here one day 👍🏻
Yeah, definitely image 2, I think it illustrates perfectly just how much a little to the left, a little further in makes a difference, composition is key, and as a bonus it also shows that visiting a scene more than once can pay dividends, nowt better than having a cuppa while watching wor Henry, chills me brain man 👍
Great video as usual! Definitely #2 for me. Keep up the great work. Each video inspires me to get out more and practice what I'm learning.
the second falls at 7:57 how do feel about the foreground? on TH-cam it feels busy and distracting to me, am I missing something ? thanks for the wonderful journey
Another banger of a video Henry! Of the winding road shot, number 2 for the conditions but I prefer your composition on the first shot, still both are beautiful shots.
what a great day out for you Henry, some top quality images there and in terms of your question, Image number 2 for me as the drama in the sky really added to the mood of what you captured. In terms of the wet weather, I definitely think that is one of the areas you excel in as you have this knack of capturing some stunning conditions
Thanks mate
Man you are so enthusiastic you remind me of the Fast Show character ‘Brilliant’ He’s from your neck of the woods too. Really enjoyable video, great stuff. Liked and subscribed
Another outstanding video Henry love all the autumn colours. you are without doubt the best video photographer that i follow and believe me i follow a lot.
Thanks mate that's very nice of you!
Another cracking video Henry, just ordered a calendar, so looking forward to getting that mate ❤
Nice one mate, really appreciate the support 🙏🏼
Loved the adventure of the week. However, I'm waiting for another bike outing.
Another great and interesting video henry and love the dof you get with that new camera
Glad you enjoyed it
Great adventure yet again.. I’m thinking of ditching the big heavy bag for the Olympus too… may I ask you to let me know what lenses are you using 🙏
Henry, I have enjoyed and learned from your videos for several years now. I was a little surprised yet pleased to see that you made the move to smaller format camera. i'm getting up in years and made the change to an Olympus OM-DE Mark 3 a few years back with the hopes of putting my Canon 5D for sale. I was so disappointed with the kit lenses I got with the Olympus I put it on a shelf. I I see you are using the 12-200 f3.5-6.3 are you happy with the sharpness? It seems to be just what I was looking for. You are the only Landscape Photographer that I follow on TH-cam using Olympus, so i'm curious about your opinion. Thanks
Love the videos, being in Ontario Canada the scenes are all so different. One small nit could you comment on the distances you're walking and could you add the photo details ..lense, focal length etc. thanks.
Thanks for your video. I prefer picture no 1, no 2 is goo, too. I was wondering if you think that 20 MP is plenty, generally speaking. Love your pics
Hi Henry a great video really enjoyed it .I have to ask .
When you wild camp and stay in your van . What about your safety and well-being. You have to be safe . Rich from Leeds
Great video Henry as usual.... magnificent location & you are so lucky to live close....#2 photo looks best although all your pics are great... autumn is such a great time of the year....only 31c temp. here today where I am in Australia as we come into summer.... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊
Really liking these longer videos, thank you for taking the time to post one each week.
I spent a few days at "Englands 2nd largest lake" in September so looking forward to seeing where you end up and getting jealous at the quality of your pics compared to mine 😂
PS. Photo no.2 for me
More cameras need built-in NDs, such a handy feature
Also, I am thinking of making the leap to mirrorless, and curious if you are likely to ever do a semi-review of the om-5, it's one of the options on my list :)
Well done Henry and Number 1 a is better photo due to the light. But also it has a better balance of the wall and fence and in general your eye is more naturally lead through the scene. Also in number 2 clipping the top right corner of the fence isn't ideal compositionally whereas number 1 is much more clean. I love the trees that are visible in number 2 however.. I would revist the scene in better light, include the trees to the right of the number one photo (by using a 16:9 ratio) and then wait for some sheep or a classic car to move into the scene for the money shot ;)
Yes, number 2. Henry, you used to spend more time on the settings. I for one would like to hear more about the OM-E5 and how you feel about moving from Nikon. Do you still include the exposure in the viewfinder? Does the large screen show you instantly the effect of changing a setting? Thanks again.
Hi Henry I am going to snowdon on Saturday with my new camera clip on my rucksack. So all my photos will be handheld. Could you tell me the best possible settings for handheld. I am using 24 to 105 mm lens. Cheers Danny
Bun bag we say down south lol
for the photo at 8:00 I liked no.1 better, jst prefered the slightly different framing further out on the road. That's a qaulity haul you got on that one trip 👍 The one you showed near the beginning from a previous visit with the sun star, mint, photos like that don't come around often. I was wondering for the images you captured on this vid, did you focus stack any of them and does your new camera have the ability? cheers mate, top job ❤🙏
I received my calendar yesterday, thank you. I’m sure when I first started watching your videos, ages ago, that you said you were scared of sheep? I’m glad you’re over it if that was the case 😂
How much did you feed that sheep to photo bomb you at the end?
😂 I didn't even realise until I was editing the video!
@@HenryTurnerphoto it was following you like it was a puppy. Made me laugh through the rest of the video. Well done with the photography bits too. 😉
You’re costing me money Henry 😂 Herdwick Sheep experience is getting booked later for my partner’s birthday. We’ll stay in the Lakes for a few days, my birthday treat might be a 121 with a well known photographer who knows the area... Know anyone? 🤔
I like 1 better, both are great all the same
#1 for me. much nicer light 🙂
the shape of the road is also more conducive to leading the eye through the image like you're actually there. #2 leads my eye away from much of the comp.
Hi Henry. Loving this video, and about half way. Black Friday is looming and I currently don't have a dedicated camera backpack. Would you mind sharing what make and model of backpack your using. In July I visited that area and after half an hour biblical rain was falling. I got some great shots just before my camera had to go in a bin bag.
Another nice video Henry, was wondering what lens you used with the Olympus OMD EM5, looks to short for the 12-40 f2.8 looks like the 12-100 f4.i have a few 4/3 cameras a Panasonic G9 & G95 and Olympus OMD 1MKII , MKIII and OMD EM5 MKIII with a collection of zoom and prime lenses, the Olympus 40- 150 f2.8 is a great choice for a long telephoto for the Olympus OMD system. Take care.
👍📷😎
i got my calendar today wont open it till the 1st lol its bad luck :]
