That rule doesn't even make any sense. How can the slowest rider set the pace? If you're going slower than the slowest rider, aren't they going faster than you?

Awful reporting. Most of the clips you showed happened in the terrain park, not schoolmarm. Also, you aren't going to report the fact that Keystone Mountain Safety employees were caught lying on video?
I don’t know John personally, but I have followed his TH-cam channel for two years. A few things I can say for certain- he is a good person, a family man, and he is always concerned with the well being of others. As a former snowboard instructor from Washington state, it is my opinion that they were not going too fast. It appears that the patrol person that stopped them was upset and wanted to make an example out of them. I have boarded the Colorado area several times, beautiful mountains and amazing people. Unfortunately there are still a few old timers that really don’t like boarders and take advantage of their authority. Such is the case here.
Im a ski coach and I completely agree. Where they speeding and doing expert tricks ? Yes, where they passing dangerously close to beginners ? No. Just let them be, and stop the snowboard ski hate pls.
Typical of a news station to only get half of the storie. The video that went viral only showed a bit of the situation. Johnathan Buckhouse just put up a video up that entails the whole incident. As a subscriber to Johnathan's channel, I can say he is totally a safe rider. They were told to slow down by one safety patrol and they did. At no time were they told to stop. They did stop within ear shot of one. They were on the side of the run hitting side hits. Yes backflips were probably not the best of idea, but they were going at a safe pace. The safety patrol just didn't want to listen. For those that want to say I am not a rider, I'm not one of Johnathan's, but I do ride and I've been down Schoolmarm plenty of times.
They clearly did. The final clip they showed was the fastest he went in his entre video around the bend with the trees. They chose taht and edited to make him look bad. They must of been paid by the mountain for PR as their social media was getting bombarded.
Let me clarify the mountain is in fact for everybody, but these guys just didn't look that irresponsible, they were back flipping bit but they generally appeared to be giving people space

That took a lot of courage for those snowboarders to go down the family run. Those family runs are dangerous. All them Jerrys losing their skis and watching them fly down the hill like a missile. Very dangerous. Glad those snowboarders made it out safely.
Happened to me a few days ago at Park City, I was literally in the lift life for Crescent express when some Jerry coming down Homerun smashed into me full speed. He just laid there on the ground looking at me with the most confused face ever. Didn't say a word.
You can see from the video the ski patrol tried to stop every snowboard in his vicinity, he stopped those two guys and tried to stop the 3rd guy (obvious beginner snowboarder ) to his left. Just don’t stop, turn your jacket inside out and do a different run, tickets are so expensive these days being able to cancel a pass without a warning and a 3 strike system should be a lawsuit. Patrollers are just people and can abuse power and have bias, Ive seen videos where they mistake riders because they’re identifying them by jacket color, and they’re canceling tickets and passes that cost hundreds to thousands of dollars.
The vast majority of people speaking on this issue have never even tried snowboarding in their lives. I’ve been an avid subscriber to Johnny B for years now and the mans always keeps safety in check. Keystone is just butthurt they can’t control advanced riders like they can beginners.
Eliot Pacella Word. At the same time tho I can kinda see why they are getting pissy on a green run. I get that this dude is making videos but there is no reason for anyone with skill to hit those runs unless they are teaching someone else.
@@deadtome44 green runs like this are perfect for practicing your more technical ground tricks as well as advanced side hit tricks with minimal consequence. It's completely wrong to restrict riders to certain hills based off skill.
Turc44 additionally many green runs are major arteries between peaks, lifts, base areas, and the run out back to the bottom. In many cases, skiers and riders need to take green runs to get somewhere regardless of their skill level. Additionally, if you really need an isolated area to learn to ski there is always the learning center; once you are out on the real mountain you should really be prepared and in control enough to be around other skiers and riders.
@@deadtome44 Keep your butt at the bottom of the hill. Clearly youve never been to the top and rode down on anything. Green runs are your main runs to everything else, especially at a place like this. Also classification of runs are kinda a moot point. what is a diamond run on a smaller hill could be considered a green run on a bigger hill. Run classification is based on the hill and its skill required based on other more technical runs of that hill. Also you dont practice on 30 foot monster table top jumps to try new things. You do that on easy runs with smaller side hits and smaller obstacles. Know your limits and work your way up.
@@MidwestMTBAdventures I haven’t been on a green run in at least 10 years unless absolutely necessary. Plenty of side hits on less crowded parts of the mountain. Ski patrol doesn’t know if you are skilled enough to avoid the beginners, so there are rules in place. Have some common sense. See ya at the bottom ✌🏻.
Jonathan is a nicer guy than he is a good snowboarder. You can go and watch the raw footage of the incident and they obeyed the request to slow down and went the rest of the run a good pace. The Ski patrol made their own narrative, but the video backs up Johnathan and crew did no wrong. There are people that bomb down Schoolmarm and need to be stopped. Johnathan and crew are not those people. #freebuckhouse Keystone should apologize and utilize Jonathan in a positive way. He has done more for promoting Keystone than Keystone themselves. The whole notion of slow is so vague that it is meaningless. Put up speed limits on certain runs and put up guns that display your speed so you can know what that speed limit feels like.
@@mysticrider76 I stand corrected. Mountain safety and ski patrol are two different groups with different functions. My points are still valid regardless of this error.

Ugh I hate how most everybody in these comments sides with keystone, so let me break it down. To get to the park, where they were headed, they have no choice but to go on this family run. Not only were they completely in control, they were going at reasonable speed. They were told once to stop, but they did not see the yellow jackets trying to tell them to slow down. Later on, they were stopped and forced to take a safety class even though they did not know why. They are professionals, who had complete control and had to take that family route. I wish the people on these comments would do their research or actually know about snowboarding and keystone before assuming things. Keystone is 100 percent at fault here.
Wow, I clicked on this to give y’all props for reporting this story. Instead I guess I’ll settle at taking a shot at dying media. This is why people don’t like the news anymore. When we can watch raw footage what you actually are doing by presenting this sorry in this way is showing your blazing incompetence or your malicious intent.
If you watch their video, there are people passing them the whole time. The video doesnt lie. Anyone who thinks the boarders are at fault are just salty.
They uploaded the ful video. You can tell that the workers in yellow 100% lied about the events. They were passed by half the mountain so couldn't of been going fast. That like driving a car and being overtaken multile times but still getting in trouble for going fast, you know a mistake has been made. the clip they showed at the end was the only point in his whole video where he went fast, for a bend with no people near him
The insistence of that director that they were somehow being irresponsible is such bs. And the disingenuous gesturing at the "slow" sign... They weren't going fast near the slow signs. Just a totally dishonest and patronizing portrayal of events.
Terrible reporting, they were not going fast at all. They were in control the whole time and were not going that fast. Looks like I’m never going to keystone.
I love how Denver-7 took clips of him riding in blues and in the park and juxtaposed it with this incident to make him look disrespectful. Main reason I 1) own an IKON and 2) don’t watch the news 😂💀
When they were told to slow down, they did even though everyone else on that run was going the same speed or even faster. Furthermore, they were on the side of run literally in the trees! This is ridiculous!
I saw Jonathan’s raw footage and now seen this. At least the comment section is keeping it clear and honest. The keystone safety patrols are ridiculous. I already skied a few days there this season and i always slowed down when the yellow slow signs coming up. They don’t stop the people who’s really fast with no control, but they gave me warning when I made a few not that fast small carving turns, on one side with no people around
They were cruising completely in control at the speed of the rest of traffic. The yellow jackets acted like complete jackasses and now these reporters are making asses of themselves as well.
I follow Jonathan on TH-cam and he was never on a family run. He was on a black to a blue in the matter of 1:00. “Keystone is building an amazing park and all this year but there losing there reputation of have good ski patrol” Jonathan said. The video name is “getting our year passes pulled for speeding?” Hope this clears things up a bit.
How can this be called bombing? If you knew anything about skiing and/or snowboarding this is a very very mellow run. If you’ve seen the raw footage you can tell that these guys know what they are doing and keep both safe distance, a low speed and a high respect for others as well as obeying ski patrol. I am a dad that have been skiing and snowboarding for 30+ years and I could honestly say that I would have these guys passing me and my children all day long in the slopes rather that any middle aged newbi. The slopes are for everyone but apparently not in Keystone.
The snowboarders stayed to the sides of the trails, they slowed down when the patrol told them at the beginning, and the news failed to note several of the out of control skiers and snowboarders seen in the footage that were not stopped.
I think many are missing the point here. Just because you are skilled does not mean you are above the rules of the resort. There is no question that these experienced snow boarders were in control of themselves BUT they were in a clearly marked slow speed beginner and family area where their higher speed and maneuvers could be distracting and scary to beginners. They belong on the advanced slopes appropriate to their skill level with others who are used to boarders of that level and speed. While a better action by the ski patrol could have been to simply wave these guys over and suggest that they move to slopes more appropriate to their skill levels, STOP BUSTING ON THE SKI PATROL!! I have witnessed countless times these folks have to deal with entitled skiers and boarders who feel they should be allowed to go wherever they want with no regard to others on the slopes. I have watched them get abused for trying to stop someone barely in control from being on slopes beyond their skill level where they present a threat to not only themselves but also to others on the hill. I have watched them deal with the injuries resulting from out of control skiers and boarders. Sure they get short tempered at times…wouldn’t you dealing with people who treat you with contempt all day? I fully respect their tough job and am fully in their camp on this one.
Seems to be a problem of the country. I went skiing several times in multiple European countries and never was an institution like this Ski Patrol necessary. Helpers on the mountain are just there for medical emergencies and the rest is settled by common sense and unspoken rules.
I am a ski racer from the east and the same stuff happens all the time to us. We get our passes pulled for going too fast when we are in control. I feel for these snowboards man they are usually the coolest people on the mountain. I hope they got their passes back
If they try and pull your pass take off your skis and run back to your car ! What are they going to do tackle you and pull it out of your pocket ! Assuming they don't know your name you can return again soon just wear different ski clothes
Same stuff happens to us, at my home resort we always get flagged down for skiing trees (which being in a non mountainous region is the most advanced terrain we can ride here… really sucks) never had passes pulled but it is really annoying when you sign a waiver freeing resorts of liability to get a pass and ski patrol bit€hes at you for riding terrain that is within your riding ability
@@copythatchannel what exactly is "slow"? Please define it for us. Slow for you is most likely not slow for me. And vice versa. Roads have explicitly defined speeds, so we know what is expected of us

Wow!!! Do you guys see how this news report sided with keystone employees?! That’s so unfair and uncalled for. So stupid. The little girls were going faster than them. The rules of the road were changed just because they were good. These people targeted them just because they were expert snowboarders
those type of guys make the slopes more entertaining, I used to love watching guys do tricks, ask the little boys and girls how they liked seeing a guy do a backflip? if they are not hurting nobody then stfu
I saw the whole video of this, including the riders going down. They were not going too fast, were in control, not doing anything dangerous near anyone outside their group, you can clearly see none of the ski patrol they past along the way made even any motion to slow them down, also they went slow in the slow zones. The ski patrol were in the wrong, and unprofessional about this whole incident. This is why at other resorts skiers and boarders will try to evade the ski patrol and actually become dangerous. If you watch the whole incident you will see this group maintained great composure with the unprofessional ski patrol. And even one guy on the radio, a manage or someone, who was in no way involved in the incident threatening them if he had to come down.
Look at the raw footage on John's channel and you will see that him and his friend slowed down and where in control all the time. Come to the Alps instead of the shitty slopes in Keystone. The mountain patrol boss knew he was wrong but didn't want to loose the "fight" so he flexed his authority and gave the two young men a black stamp to show an example that you can not argue with the patrols.
I was thinking of going here but it looks like the sort of place you’d feel uncomfortable skiing, like you are being watched by someone waiting to take your pass.
He was not boming it he should not take a safety class that is so stupid the little kids where going faster then them.there is no reason to stop them they were just having fun and doing what they love
Dear Vail, crap like this from your people who straight up lied on camera when you watch the raw footage is what kept/keeps me from ever going on the Epic Pass. Tricks are not bad, speed can be, and these guys were never once out of control when you watch the full footage.
For Context: The riders (Buckhouse) were going along at a regular speed, the same with everyone else. Then, a mountain safety patrol guy yell at them to slow down, they yell back saying "Yes" and promptly slow down, giving the guy a thumbs up. He slows down and stays to the side of the run, and they continue to do this for the rest of the run. They then get pulled over by the mountain safety, and lectured. The mountain safety claims they were ripping past (in the gopro recording they are clearly going at a regular pace), and the mountain safety claims that they were flipped off, yet all of the riders were wearing mittens. Also, in the background of the video, Johnothan Buckhouse (the guy in trouble) is more concerned about the skiers in the background who were falling over in the middle of the run than the mountain safety. What a joke of a mountain patrol. The whole video is on his channel where he covers this in depth.

I took my kid snowboarding the other day. A beginner skier ran over her arm getting off the lift. She has a swollen bruise from that. She had multiple close calls with out of control beginner snowboarders. I was once hit by a beginner snowboarder from behind, hard enough his edge cut my pant leg open. Ski patrol saw and came over and asked if I was okay. I would be more worried about the beginners “bombing” out of control down the hill and hurting or scaring someone rather that a legitimate pro.
I've been hit from behind three times. ALL BEGINNERS who had no business being on the terrain they were on. Resort Passes are disproportionate to the cost of lessons. Private lessons at Keystone are $1050. Group lessons are abut $200, but still more than these klutes are going to pay, so they just strap in with ZERO clue on what they are doing. Keystone is flat out a very dangerous place to be now, with the resorts allowing thousands more people than carrying capacity and thousands of utterly clueless beginners. We would be fortunate to have thousand of riders like JB on the mountains, but those days are over. Just a beginner shit show. TAKE A LESSON or go to ELDORA you kooks.
@@23JMRH Wow, that’s insanely prohibitive pricing. I can understand people not wanting to pay that. Especially for a two hour lesson. I think I paid $28 for a beginner lift ticket, lesson and rentals years ago now. They’re probably being packed in with a ton of others and not really getting all the instruction that would help them. It’s definitely a corporate, money making business. I can see why more people are pushing into the backcountry.
@@DeadSpaceman2012 Seriously. I was just saying the other day, where are all the good skiers and riders?
Love when the news can't even watch the boarders' full video to see what happened
They clearly did. The final clip they showed was the fastest he went in his entre video around the bend with the trees. They chose taht and edited to make him look bad. They must of been paid by the mountain for PR as their social media was getting bombarded.

Facts, you can see him struggling to stay up
The vast majority of people speaking on this issue have never even tried snowboarding in their lives.

I saw Jonathan’s raw footage and now seen this. At least the comment section is keeping it clear and honest. The keystone safety patrols are ridiculous. I already skied a few days there this season and i always slowed down when the yellow slow signs coming up. They don’t stop the people who’s really fast with no control, but they gave me warning when I made a few not that fast small carving turns, on one side with no people around
oh my gosh
this is so messed up, "disregarding everyone else's safety." Johnathon Buckhouse is probably the safest s snowboarder out there.
Yo yalls might wanna pull this vid or re air a segment now that the raw footage is released ... just an idea lol
yea they may have done a little lying with this report

Did they speed up his video because it looks a lot faster than the raw footage he posted.

Does that make it ok for a f1 racer to speed over the road speed limit in a school zone? No! Break the rules. Pay the price. The sign said slow!
@@copythatchannel what exactly is "slow"? Please define it for us. Slow for you is most likely not slow for me. And vice versa. Roads have explicitly defined speeds, so we know what is expected of us

So they don’t count as family? She said that like they were out hurting people.
It’s definitely a corporate, money making business. I can see why more people are pushing into the backcountry.
@@DeadSpaceman2012 Seriously. I was just saying the other day, where are all the good skiers and riders?
