Anthony Riccardi Stannis would be an infinitely better ruler than her. He has the best claim, he's the only one who recognises the threats north of the wall, he's a proven combat leader and is driven by duty not desire for power/wealth/revenge. I doubt it'll happen, he'll probably die before the end but if I had it my way he'd be king.

Actually it wasn't that she was a butcher it was the way it played out in a matter of a couple of episodes that was disappointing. Her father the Mad King who started out as a really good King took years to go from good to mad/evil.
Dany in the books will very likely turn into a butcher(Mad Queen) but there will be a slow build up and events that will lead up to it. I haven't been a Dany fan since A Storm of Swords but will say that the show runners did ruin her character, mainly with how they handled her turning from good to evil. But then again, these are the same people that ruined Stannis, Dornish plot and the Sand Snake, Euron and the Iron Island plot. This season was where the show started to go downhill.
@@juve96 this is exactly what I think. When people say season 8 was bad and it needs a remake, I say they need to do the remake starting season 5. I'm sure Sansa's character, Arya's, Jon's, Cersei's will be handled in the books so much better as well.
I didn't mind she burned Kings landing down. She was always a little quick to crazy but had advisor's to calm her. She was very bi polar in that way.
She would happily slay hundreds of high born in the free cities, she would burn fleets down, talk about how she would burn and lay waste to her enemies.
If you watch her from the start again it's clear Danny was always building her own idea of a better world. Never were the people consulted to thought of. Only her idea of what society wanted. She regularly said things like "they can live in my new world or die in their old world". Never did she allow for compromise or allow people to try adapt.
She was a dictator but a passive one. She would care for her people and love them but only if they done what she expected of them all 24/7.
Tyrion, jorah, missandei and a few others always kept her sane. They'd say no that's a bit much, you're losing perspective, chill. And she usually did.
But losing most of them left her more and more in search of vengeance and the power she so wanted to have. With just Tyrion left by the end she was lost.
Tyrion was no longer a good person to get advice from. It was Danny vs his family and dynasty. He begun to become hesitant and give uncertain advice.
The problem was they just dumbed Tyrion down rather than show us he was deeply worried for his sister and brother who despite all they done he loved. He was regretting tommen and myrcella dying and wanted his sister to have that baby so bad. He wanted his dynasty to go on as he always wanted to help his father ensure his family survived despite never getting to be able.
If they showed this rather than just turning him into a fumbling idiot it would have been more believable.
What we needed was a season 8 where Tyrion loses his bottle as he fears for cersei deep down and where Danny gradually loses her ability to be calm as she loses all her advisors. Then a season 9 where Danny fights the whites who put up a real war that takes millions of lives.
Then a season 10 where Danny having lost two dragons, most her friends and advisors as well as most her army, attacks a weakened cersei who continues to refuse to surrender despite the entire nation now against her for not fighting in the war which cost half the Northern kingdoms people.
Then have Danny slaughter the city. Have cersei escape but have jaimie kill her and Danny then kill jaimie. Tyrion turns on her the same as before for this and then Danny rules for say 5 or 6 episodes and begins to immediately prep the war ruined nation for war again as she intends to take the southern World around the summer Isles etc and the far off regions of essos. Have arya or jon then kill her.
Same plot with a few developments due to more time.
What should have taken a full season 8,9 and 10 we crammed into a 2/3 season 8.
Danny going mad worked just was not developed naturally as was Tyrions arc or Jon's loyalty

Two reasons: impatience and fear. Many are irritated that she's taking so long to sail to Westeros. Many hate her because she has three dragons, the Unsullied and she's about to take control of the Dothrakis. When she does sail to Westeros heads will roll and many people will lose their favourite character.
People hate her because she doesn't know how to rule, how to lead an army or how to train dragons (pun intended). Her victory seems so obvious right now, that it definitely won't happen. She will fall eventually.

The cities they inhabit are basically prior to Daenerys Slave hubs, Cites built on an evil economy, They're surrounded by desert and are most likely importing more food then they grow. and that trade of food is supported by the former slave economy. so with no food coming into meereen how will Daenerys feed her people. especially with the winter coming.
Yes they can work. but like I said Trade in this city is based on slavery, ships come in with food and coin they leave with slaves. and the desert surrounding them wont yield the food they need.. Meereen and the other cities in slavers bay were literately designed to only be slaver cities. And if your surrounded by mostly pro slavery Kingdoms and city states, that doesn't' help much either.

This show is revolutionizing the scale that television can play on. If I didn't know any better, I would assume this is a trailer for a tentpole Hollywood blockbuster without hesitation. And it's bound to only get bigger by the end. Entertainment history in the making.

Matthew Williams That's your opinion. And in mine, people who think that the books are superior to the show and that the show is a mockery of the books' greatness should stop watching the fucking show and just keep reading the books. I say this as someone who has read the books, and loves the source material and the show about equally.
Some would argue that the show is a "TV masterpiece" but even so, that's not what it was meant to be. GRRM knew that TV and movies would never be able to adapt the story in its entirety. This is as good an adaptation as we are ever gonna get, unless someone decides to remake it twenty years down the line. Of course the show is never gonna match the books (that's how it is with almost every adaptation), but you should be able to differentiate one medium from the other.
And yeah, I do think the writing on the show is one of the more commendable aspects, along with the acting and production design. That D&D have been able to be as faithful to the books as they have already is pretty amazing. Each episode is loaded with easter eggs and nods to the books.
As for your example of an "unnecessary change that makes the story inferior", that scene is still going to happen this season and it will still work. Why? Because Jon is aware that Bran is beyond The Wall, where an army of zombies and ice demons is roaming around, not to mention wildlings. Now if you were Jon, would you think that a crippled kid and a slow-minded man could survive out there? I don't think so.
See this is the problem, a lot of the "unnecessary changes" are at least made with some in-universe logic behind them. I'm not saying I'm happy with all the changes, I just don't consider the story ruined because of them. Not sure what "Tyrion's ploy with Varys" is referring to.
Matthew Williams I'm saying that Jon is going to be tempted no matter what. In the books, he knows/thinks Sansa and Arya are alive and that's why he refuses. So now in the show it will be because he knows/thinks that Sansa, Arya and Bran are alive. Not that bad.
Thank you for mentioning the Tysha thing, because how they handled Tyrion's whole escape was something that didn't have as much impact for me. But I only know that because I read the books; anyone who didn't will think those murders were as powerful as could be. Bad choice, nevertheless.
Other things I find unnecessary or dumb: the Grey Worm/Missandei romance. Missandei as an adult. The lack of Stannis activity. Melisandre getting naked whenever she gets the chance. Too much emphasis on Varys and Littlefinger. Too much emphasis Daenerys. The Brotherhood betraying Gendry. The fact that the Children of the Forest just look like children, and throw fireballs I guess. Grey Wind's pathetic death. Replacing cool book characters with characters made for the show that aren't as cool. Making characters that are meant to be unlikable likable (Daario, Cersei, Tywin).
I don't see how Catelyn freeing Jaime was that different. If anything, her decision makes more sense in the show.
I liked Talisa better than Jeyne Westerling. THAT was a logical change. Even if the reason for it was good, Robb's eagerness to marry a girl from a family loyal to the Lannisters was stupid. That he'd rather marry a girl he actually fell in love with over someone from House Frey was more believable.
I don't think D&D think they are as good as GRRM. I think they are major fans who are trying their best, like Peter Jackson with the first LOTR trilogy. They didn't steal this series from Martin. Martin gave it to them, and still trusts them with it. It's funny how you mention the moments where they do a good job passingly, but crucify them for anything you don't like.

People really need to know that Daenerys was never written to be a wholly good, saint of a character. She is conflicted, like all characters in the show/books. When she says she will break the wheel, obviously D&D knew that the Targaryens was the largest threat to realm for almost 300 years. Dan and David knows this, the characters in the show knows this, most book readers seem to know this, some show watchers know this, but absolutely zero, nada, none of the Stannis fanboys/fangirls knows this. I mean I love Stannis, but I also love Daenerys. You don't have to choose. I admit that the "break the wheel" monologue in the first trailer was pretty lame. In this trailer though, in context, it's awesome. Her line (the final one, "I'm going to break the wheel" delivery isn't perfect I'll give you that, Daenerys haters. Still, she pulls the role of Daenerys off better than most. I cannot imagine another Daenerys than Emilia Clarke. So if you could be so kind to stop bitching and just enjoy the show, that'd be great!

5 Days!!! I can't wait. This is going to be epic. I just watched the first 4 season in the last 4 days(spring break, no social life) so I'm anxious to what is next.
So...while everyone is busy fighting over that ugly iron chair, there's Jon Snow trying to do something about the upcoming apocalypse in the form of the white walkers. It's unfortunate that the war over the iron throne is going to cost them all in the end, who else will be still alive besides the night's watch to fight the real enemy.
Nobody, unless Stannis and Roose Bolton decide not to kill each other, which I doubt. but who wants Roose to help in anything any ways. Daenerys Might show up, But the wall will likely been breached before that time.
