  • The girls are 8 and half months old and love their treats....
    Good options are....whole veggies, leafy greens, apples, grapes, watermelon and dry rolled oats.
    Provide extra protein by giving dried mealworms and black soldier fly larvae.
    Bad options......
    NO bread! It's a filler and they don't get any nutrients from it.
    NO citrus fruits, table scraps, or rotted foods or fruits of any kind.
    Thanks for watching! Happy Chicken Keeping! 🐔

      Thanks so much and I'm glad my videos bring you joy. I love spoiling my girls! My husband used to be a local route truck driver. He keeps his CDL just in case. We appreciate the hard work our truck drivers do. Merry Christmas to you and your family! Be safe on the roads! 🌲🎅

    What do you use for litter? You are my inspiration on keeping my coop clean! I watched your video of daily cleaning!

      Thanks so much for watching! I use a product called Koop Klean in the run to keep it fresh and clean. In the hen house I use small cut pine shavings. I rake at least twice daily to minimize the poop accumulation which keeps their feet clean too. Enjoy my videos and Happy Chicken Keeping! 🐓

    Another great video...I was so excited to see in my notifications that you had a new video out 😊
    You are coming into cooler weather, but here in Australia we are in the last month of Spring, December being the start of Summer. It’s so hot already. Over the last 2 days I’ve started adding electrolytes to their waterer to help them in the high temps. Also have had a bout of broody girls, not fun 😊 Thank you again Justine for another wonderful video..🐣🐥🐓

      Your very welcome Debbie. Always so nice to hear from you. Broody hens can be stubborn. If you keep taking their eggs, they will get over the broodiness or put them in a pen with no nest boxes. Take care and happy chicken keeping. 😁🐔🐓🐣

    What material do you have on the floor of your run?

    • @colesbackyardcoop
      @colesbackyardcoop  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, there is a base of top soil and then I top with Koop Klean which is mix of grasses, hay and straw. It keeps the run fresh and their feet stay clean. I rake it every afternoon and add more as needed. Thanks.

    • @colesbackyardcoop
      @colesbackyardcoop  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello. They do well in th he heat. Give them a place to get out of the sun, keep water in the shady always and sometimes you can give them cold treats like watermelon rind with some pink on it. Good luck and thanks for watching!

    Your chickens seem to get along so well. How do you keep them from picking on each other. I have 7 pullets that are about 16 weeks old and my Buff Orpington won’t stop bullying my Americana, and picks at her tail feathers. Not sure what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated!! Thanks

    • @colesbackyardcoop
      @colesbackyardcoop  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, mine have moments when a couple are more dominant than the rest but they do get along well. I raised them from chicks and handled them alot. In your case, you can separate your buff for a couple of weeks and then re-introduce her and she will be lower on the pecking order. Make sure the others don't pick on the ameraucanas tail so it can heal. Good luck.

      Hello. Thanks for watching! I have not had the ISA or Novogen breeds. The Red Star is similar to the ISA and a great layer.
