    I’m very curious what is meant by “Fall of the Vikings”. Certainly the raiding lifestyle of the Viking age ended due to increasing centralization by kings and adoption of Christianity but their civilization did not end at all. The descendants of the Vikings in Scandinavia became the Kingdoms of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden. Their descendants in France became Normans and conquered England and Sicily. The Rus would eventually become Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus.

      I guess if you take it by the wording, it's just as you say, the fall of the raiding Viking business model, since the new god didnt allow this sort of thing, especially not against their favourite target: monestaries.

    • @raphaelledesma9393
      @raphaelledesma9393 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@kuzzbillington6392 I think tho the development is a good thing. After all, the stability of more centralized states, the lack of raiding, and the networking of joining a group of more centralized states made for an overall more stable world and allowed better technological advancement ushering in the trends of the High Middle Ages.

      The same thing that happened in North and South America with the Inca/Aztecs and Amazon tribes.
      Yes their descendance still live in Brazil and Mexico and Peru/Chile ect ect but the entire culture was almost destroyed and eradicated. At least the Spanish, British and early Americans weren't as successful and you can still see many buildings even if text and art was destroyed. There are also descendants still practicing songs and dances from before the fall of the Aztecs and Inca

    This is so interesting for me because Jens Peder Schjelderup was my 12 times great-grandfather and the 2nd Lutheran bishop in Bergen from 1557 to 1582. He was a central figure in the reformation in Norway. He was from Denmark and the family stayed in Norway with many in the line going on to serve in the Lutheran Church.

    Okay, first of all, Ryurik didn't just come and built Novgorod. He was INVITED by local tribes to protect them. That was a common practice back than. He and his warriors + members of a families. And Novgorod already existed by that time.
    Secondly, the guy, Ragnar, prays on Latin. That is not historycaly true at all: Christianity in Russia came from Byzantine Empire and he would be praying in Greek or old Slavonic. Also he wouldn't wear such robe, it is also from Western Church.
    I enjoy watching this channel, but this program has two very significant mistakes. The documentary is called like this because it is supposed to be based on documents, not on some fairy tales or producers' view. I am a bit disappointed, really.

      I find the presentation of slaves in this documentary very difficult to believe. Slaves had no rights. They could be killed with impunity. Slave women could be raped by free men but free men could not rape a free woman. Slaves were treated as beasts of burden. A slave would not be talking back to his/her owner in the way that is shown in this documentary. I have watched other documentaries by this channel and they also have large mistakes in them although the content is very interesting. Perhaps the channel shouldn't try to dramatise episodes it makes and just stick to the facts.

    • @demonia2848
      @demonia2848 ปีที่แล้ว

      Significant mistakes especially regarding how slaves would have behaved towards their owners. They would not have spoken to their owners in the manner that is shown in this channels episode. Slaves were worthless. They had absolutely no rights. They could have been killed for talking back to their owners and masters like the female slave is shown doing in this episode.
