    _“He said _*_to me_*_ he wanted coffee.”_
    This form is interpreted to emphasize the "to me" part. It suggests, "he had the audacity to say to me..." or "I can hardly believe it, but he said to me...". It adds incredulity or shock to the speaker doing the reporting.
    But, usually, when you want to tell someone else that you're incredulous or shocked about what someone else said, you would use direct speech. You would recite their words verbatim. ( *Verbatim* is a good word to know in this lesson.)

    Also please prepare video on the followinga as well:
    When to use "rather" and when to use "instead of"

    • @jovetj
      @jovetj 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Both can be used at the same time to introduce conflicting choices.
      _I _*_would rather be_*_ going to school _*_instead of_*_ going to the dentist._ (I am traveling right now to the dentist, but I would prefer to travel to school. It is implied I do not enjoy the dentist or the school.)
      _I _*_would rather_*_ go to school _*_instead of_*_ the dentist._ (Given a hypothetical choice of going to school or going to the dentist, I prefer to go to school.)
      They can also be reversed, like *although* and other connective words:
      *_Instead of_*_ going to the dentist, I _*_would rather_*_ go to school._

    and thank you again for your indefinably great lesson.😇

    • @LearnEnglishLab
      @LearnEnglishLab  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm glad you liked the lesson, Juhi. To improve your pronunciation by yourself, you need to practice with good speech samples. You should take recordings with clear speech (either listening exercise audios or videos with subtitles - you can find these on TH-cam) and practice speaking after them. You should then practice with your own texts, ex: with newspapers, books etc. Practice reading these aloud, and if you can, record yourself on your phone. Then listen back, make changes and record again. This has really helped me and many of my students :)

      Thanks for the compliment :) The method I shared above is the one I used to improve my own pronunciation, so it works.
