    The bezel alignment is perfect. Every single second mark on the bezel is spot on with the dial. This has to be one the best kept secrets in dive watches.

    One of the best video reviews I have seen on TH-cam! Well done, Sir! Thank you also for explaining the 262Khz movement on a watch I know very little about. The hand drawn schematic was well received by this former electrician. Keep up the good work and Godspeed, Richard!

      Elek N That sweep is only on this UHF ( ultra high frequency) quartz. The usual quartz watch has a second hand that moves 1 second at a time & doesn’t “ sweep”.

    Decided to put mine on as I'm watching this. I wear this sparingly because I don't want to scratch it. Beautiful watch that my father gave me. Thanks for the awesome review and the awesome VIEWS of this watch during the video. Perhaps you can change my battery when the time comes!

    Great review. I love "tool" watches and I bought this watch about a year ago. I loved it so much that I bought the "black" version which, if anything, looks even more badass than the stainless version you reviewed. While I'm very happy with the performance of both watches, they're not perfect: they are BIG, heavy watches, and if you don't have thick wrists (luckily I do) then it's not only going to look weird, but be uncomfortable to wear.

    You are offering a very unique perspective on watches with these "hybrid" videos. I really enjoy how you look at the watch as the object that it actually is without much regard for anything else.

      There is a little more too it!!! that's 2/3rds of how a circuit works!!! what was left out that then the IC sending a current every sec to an arbour through a coil! Which then canges the polarity every sec N/S t S/N Which turns the magnetic wheel (rotor or motor) Which then powers the watch wheels!!!

    • @ufonaughts8814

    Just received this in the mail yesterday and I must say so far I am impressed! Although it is a large heavy solid watch, after you’ve had it on for awhile you tend to even forget you have it on! The sweeping second hand is super cool so smooth even smoother than a few of my automatic watches, I highly recommend this for those who like bigger watches!

    I've got a Bulova with a Miyota quartz that keeps within a couple seconds a month. It leaked after changing the battery in Mexico. Three watchmakers later and a lot of waiting, nobody had proper casebook seal. I figured Vostok Amphibias would be better for a life of watersports in Mexico. So I ordered 9 Amphibias. Loved the Bulova, but a life without seals was unbearable. I suppose ordering seals would have been easier than Amphibias from Russia.
    What kind of seal is on that watch? Did you put a new one in?

    • @richardperrettwatchmaker
      @richardperrettwatchmaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your choice with Vostok Amphibian is pretty solid I figure, it's a very waterproof design. I didn't change the gasket; I have a policy of inspection an action based on that. If the gasket is at all damaged I change but if it is fine I simply refresh with a little silicon grease and replace. The logic is the best gasket is the one the manufacturer first installed. Hope this is useful. Richard

    • @GeckoCkCkCk
      @GeckoCkCkCk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Excellent!
      I wasn't conscientious enough to find someone as conscientious as you in Mexico to preserve water resistance after changing a battery.
      So I now have a collection Amphibias.
      I enjoy your videos.

    Very interesting I own the sea king 262khz chronograph and it’s a massive watch as well but interestingly runs with a renAta 395 obviously the seconds hand is on a much smaller dial that moves 2 times per second but I would think with the extra complication would have the same battery but it’s a fraction of the size. Great lume and technology for the price especially aftermarket for the most accurate watch in the world if you like big divers these are definitely worth a look for the price and value!

    pity the chrono versions of UHF don't take advantage of the smooth sweep, I still have two of them.

    HI Richard. Sorry to be a bit late to the party with a question on this one but maybe you will see the post :)
    Like some others I was surprised to see the "sweeping" second hand rather then the more usual one-second click seen with quartz mechanisms.
    Is this a result of the higher frequency of the crystal? i.e higher frequency = more vibrations per second? or is it a function of the more powerful battery used? (from what I know, the more usual quartz "click" comes from a desire to save battery energy more than anything else)
    Would love to hear your POV
    Great and interesting video as always

  • @GenWivern2

    Rational and authoritative as usual Mr Perrett, thank you, but I hope you won't mind if I point out that strictly speaking this is a clock on a strap. Okay ... my liking for watches made before c. 1960 might have skewed my ideas about size just a little. :-) Anyway, it's clearly up to the job.

    • @richardperrettwatchmaker
      @richardperrettwatchmaker  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kailen ... This watch was a customers! If it is a small leak the movement will not get wet as the water cannot get in with the pressure of the air being released. If it is a disaster (see the start of my Vostok Amphibian) then I guess I would be liable to make good the damage. My job is to do a pressure test whilst protecting the movement. Needless to say I am extremely careful with all clients watches so it has never happened. Hope this is helpful. Richard

    Many owners of that movement see around 30 seconds a year, instead of 10...It has a much higher quartz frequency than the usual 32,768...But my Grand Seiko 25th Anniversary SBGV238 which has a frequency of 32,768 is accurate to 1 seconds per year...It is promised to be to 5 seconds per year...So that goers to show that one can have a really accurate quartz movement without a higher frequency...

    I love the sea king, but I purchased 4 different ones and all of them had a misaligned dive bezel... i can't have that and none of the other bulova divers that i have are misaligned either... i dont get it.

    I do love mechanical watches but all my quartz pieces are eco-drive (Citizen) or solar (Seiko), I would hate to depend on batteries. Their accumulators could last more than my life expectancy considering I'm in the middle of my fifties and sunlight is not precisely scarce in my country.

    You don’t waste things on villains, like throwing throwing your chunky watch at them! You let them get close enough to what they think they might like, then you back-wrist them... And then take it to a nice man like yourself for an assurance inspection.

    Some watch brands don’t sound good: Bulova (sounds fat and bloated) Orient (sounds made in China cheap); Invicta (sounds like it did something wrong); Oris sounds round and girly (mind you the watches look round & girly). .. Rolex sounds nice, I guess, but that it was created by random syllabic permutations and mutations does not make for good design sense, so bad marks for Rolex... Hmmm, maybe Omega sounds the best. Or maybe it’s just because my Dad had one (mostly because he couldn’t afford a Rolex). A lot depends on pronunciation too... Onto the video... (SEIKO sounds good; Citizen sounds common; Hamilton sounds like just a name; Tag Hewer looks and sounds like the wannabes who wear it; can’t think of some other ones; won’t comment on so many more; Patikke Philippe sounds like, yeah, you shouldn’t know about it; so many sound neutered neutral...) Yes, onto the video...

    Ten seconds a year does not sound that good :-) I made a wall clock using an oven oscillator (a kind of extremely stable quartz oscillator) and an Arduino board and it has now stayed within one second for three years.

    Why do you compare a Rolex date just to this watch one is purely mechanical and the other is battery powered! Strange.

  • @ElijsDima

    That's a disgracefully huge difference between movement size and case size... >50% volume of case inside = spacer...

      Much truth in this comment. It's an pretty early video and has very long cuts and too much waffle. I have tried to become a better film maker and my more recent stuff is a bit sharper I think. And you're right it is a very nice watch. Richard

      Deceptive . A mountain of a watch . Requires a wrist . Sapphire , stainless bash bezel , ultra accurate . 16 beats per second = smooooth as velvet . Could be had for $150 - $200 before they dried up . Ebay .
